Our family of 4 (two adults, two teens) was completely blown away by the Mariposa Jungle Lodge. This is a hidden gem! The food was delicious, the accommodations were comfortable and clean, the pool area was beautiful, and the staff were so friendly and welcoming--they went out of their way to make sure our stay there was absolutely perfect. We went on excursions from the lodge (Caracol Mayan Ruins, zip lining, and ATM cave tour) --they packed lunch and waters for us, along with towels when needed, and they set up the driver that picked us up from the airport and also took us to the Caracol Mayan Ruins another day. My son and I have to eat gluten free, and they were able to accommodate our dietary restrictions for all meals without issue. We had our own cabana that was nestled in the jungle. The other cabanas were nearby, but not close enough where you hear others. The landscaping was beautiful and made you feel like you were a part of the jungle. We highly recommend staying at the Mariposa Jungle Lodge. You will not be disappointed.…
Absolutely top-notch in every way. The cabanas and grounds were stunning, food fantastic, and service stellar! We were the only guests during our 2 night stay and cannot say enough good things about everything. We never saw or heard groundskeepers working or security roaming, and loved the privacy we had. Robbie was the only staff member we dealt with during our entire stay and he did a phenomenal job- so friendly, professional, and attentive! The nature trails around the property were lovely and there were too many amazing details around the grounds to mention them all. We stayed in the Jaguar cabana and loved the porches and outdoor shower, even enjoyed watching a couple of howler monkeys swing through a tree near our balcony. We booked the ATM tour through Mariposa and had a mind-blowing time with our amazing guide, Gliss. Also visited Xunantunich and San Ignacio while staying at Mariposa, which were easy to travel to (the freshly paved road is so great after all the rough roads and speed bumps you travel through when coming from Belize City). Our meals at Mariposa were delicious and the setting was lovely. Very romantic and peaceful. This was by far our favorite resort experience to date. Our only regrets are that we did not have more time at Mariposa. A TRULY magical place!!!…
We can't say enough positive things about our stay at the Mariposa Jungle lodge. First off, we left feeling like family. The staff is so warm, caring, and professional at the same time. We were concerned we'd arrive too late for dinner our first night, but we were greeted as were were dropped off by our great driver, Damian, and welcomed into the dining area of the lodge by Gladimir, the resort manager. A nice menu with a personalized welcome was awaiting us, a complimentary drink, and a warm welcome by Robbie. Then, the fantastic three course meal. Relaxed in our fantastic room, then a dip in the pool with a full moon overhead. The next day, after a fantastic breakfast, fresh squeezed juices and coffee (from Norma--an amazing chef), we quickly extended our stay from the initial three day reservation to stay the entire week. Best decision ever. The grounds are gorgeous with intact jungle canopy--so shady, nice breezes, lots of birds, Nice walks though the property though the jungle, with a bird watching tower and yoga deck. Very quiet and peaceful. Clean, comfortable cabana (spotless), Rosa (the housekeeper) was wonderful, not only were the rooms spotless but we also sent her some laundry including some well-travelled adventure clothing and we noticed that Ell's shirt came back minus some stains that were on it for years, and I didn't recognize my pants as it was the original color and never looked so good. EVERYONE was great. Gladimir, Romel, Robbie, Luis and Josue, in addition to Norma and Rosa. The owner, Paul, is charming and said he wanted a place with a family feeling with the staff--which he clearly has. The tours they organized were fantastic-- Classic Mayan adventures with Damian, Agusto and Wilton who were also safe, charming and informative drivers. It was the best time we have had in years, and we were sad to leave. Already planning to go back as soon as we can, and I convinced my cousin to go this Summer. Ell said she has not seen me this relaxed in years. We both would recommend staying here with absolutely no reservations (actually, reservations urged! Ha, vacation joke...sorry. Perfect combination of access to great tours, with a place to return to and relax and feel welcomed home. I'd give Mariposa Jungle Lodge a "10" if I could. Rod and Ell, Portland, Oregon…
This is a charming resort nestled in nature. The staff were all pleasant and helpful. The tours we booked (the ATM Cave and Caracol) were excellent and the guides were wonderful. Every meal was delicious. I'm very glad we stayed here!
Family of 4 spent three days at Mariposa Jungle Lodge. This property has a nice pool and pool area, a good jungle walk, and is located in the jungle. The food is extremely fresh and very very good like a high end restaurant. Norma's garlic chicken is a must for dinner. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are all separate individual houses, with A/C, and modern amenities like Wifi, and comfortable beds. We took day trips to Mayan ruins and the must do ATM cave tour. We highly recommend this lodge but bring the bug spray.
My girlfriend and I loved our stay at Mariposa Jungle Lodge. This property is located ~30min south of San Ignacio and is a great option for anyone looking to connect with nature in a quiet and secluded environment. The property consists of ~9 individual cabanas and includes nature trails, where you can also enjoy a bird watching deck and yoga deck. There are also quite a few howler monkeys in the area. For first time visitors to the Cayo District, I would recommending building this hotel into your plans for 2-3 nights, but I probably wouldn’t spend an entire week here given the remote location. Pros: • Beautiful location in the middle of the jungles, including the opportunity to see wildlife • Fun property with lots of entertainment options (movie room/library, pool, fire pit, ping-pong/fuseball, bar, yoga deck, nature trails) • Phenomenal staff • Amazing food • Close proximity to Mountain Pine Ridge if that is on your agenda • Screened balconies with hammocks for enjoying the sounds of nature • A/C in each cabana Cons: • The food is pricey for Belize (Amazing food and large portions, but still expensive) • I didn’t find the bed to be the most comfortable. Pretty firm. • As with all jungle lodges, expect to find a few bugs in the cabana • Wifi signal in the cabana wasn’t great (not that we came to the jungle in Belize to sit on our phones) Know Before You Go: • Location: This is a secluded ‘jungle’ lodge ~30min away from San Ignacio. If you’re looking for easy access to a variety of restaurants/bars, then you won’t like this hotel. I noticed a couple tiny bars/food shacks right down the street, but for the most part you’ll have to drive 20-30min to find food outside of the hotel. You would of course need a car for this. • Bugs: This is a ‘jungle’ lodge. Bugs are just a part of that reality, especially when it rains. We had a few ants and a spider in our cabana. Didn’t bother us. • Food: When staying at this hotel, you’ll likely want to eat here given the remote location. Food is on the pricey side for Belize and like all hotels, there are a couple fees tagged on (I think 10% and 12%, respectively). Expect to pay ~$65 USD/pp per day if eating all 3 meals here. That said the food is excellent • Tours: This could be a good hotel to pair with a visit to Caracol or Mountain Pine Ridge as it will shave ~30min of your travel time in each direction compared to San Ignacio. For most other tours you would still need to drive through/to San Ignacio.…
Where to start? Quiet, remote, amazing staff, lovely casitas, small number of guests, extremely clean and Covid safe and delicious meals. They really check to be sure everything is perfect. They’ll do a bag of laundry for you. Lovely pool, dinner by pool, excellent communication. Things to know: we chose to eat breakfast and dinner set menu and while it seemed a bit expensive, it was amazing. Wine was out of my budget but we brought a bottle with us and I enjoyed a glass in our room. We’d recommend using their shuttle service and a driver for tours. It’s remote, roads while improving but are still best for locals to drive. Families will feel good about having their kids here. Lots of thought had been put into this lodge.
We had the best time at Mariposa. If you are looking for comfortable accommodations, lovely hotel staff, and amazing things to do, this is the place to stay. We woke every morning to birds singing and loved walking through the rainforest grounds. The staff was kind, considerate, and so friendly. The food was incredible! Norma, Robbie, Romel, Glad, and Rosa were the best hosts. What a beautiful place in the middle of the beautiful Belizean rainforest. Would highly recommend!
Our family of 4 stayed in the family treehouse cabana and were very happy with how clean, large and comfortable it was. Aside from one other family, we were the only guests during our 4 day visit and Vlad, Robby, Norma took very good care of us including helping plan daytrips to Caracol, ATM Cave and San Ignacio. Our Classic Mayan Adventure tour guides & drivers, Damian & Augusto, speak perfect English and are both very knowledgeable about Mayan history, local flora and fauna, and Belize in general. We had a fantastic first time vacation to Belize and look forward to returning!
The lodge is beautiful. Slightly tucked away in the jungle giving you that feeling of seclusion. The room was extremely clean and lovely. We were offered a welcome drink upon arrival. All of the staff are amazing and attentive!! They really make you feel like family. Damian was an excellent driver and tour guide, extremely knowledgeable. Norma is an excellent cook! Breakfast and dinner were delicious and beautifully garnished. Everything was set up for us including our transfers and excursions. The property grounds is absolutely beautiful. The nature trail and bird watching tower is really cool. There is so much I could say, but you will have to go experience it for yourself! Do not hesitate to book here! You won’t regret it.
