The hotel is very near the water-walking around was nice. The hotel itself was clean and well kept. The room was spacious, however the bathroom was tiny. Very pleasant staff. The restaurant was great!
Travelling by car to Ruegen on our way home. There is parking space infront of the hotel and at the back. The outside of the hotel looks boring but inside it is like another world. It is far from any small town. It is builed like a submarine both in the hotel and the rooms. The restaurant is very popular, people come here just for that. The food was very good, you will not go hungry from the table. The room was big, bathroom small but ok. The windows had screens to prevent bugs from coming inside, that was really good in the summer heat. Breakfast was large and many things to choose from.
Ever ate in a submarine, in Captain Nemo's submarine? This is the place. There is plenty of fish on the menu, fortunately almost entirely local one. Service was good and quick. Good chow, don't forget the seafood pasta.
We entered the hotel building which does not look interesting at all and were surprised about the decoration in the restaurant. It really seems that you are in a submarine. We ordered pike-perch and a speciality which is called "Rügener Panfish". Both was ok, a little bit of salt missing, old-fashioned decoration with tomato and salad (times of that are over since 20 years already). Wine by the glass Euro 4.80 and small black beer Euro 2.80. Once you can go there but there are better places around.
Travelling by car in Ruegen allowed us to stay in out-of-the-way, less costly Putbus. Hotel Nautilus is also "out of the way", so much so that it's very private and absolutely delightful. Seems many travelers simply come for the quirky restaurant designed like a submarine with artwork resembling "20,000 Leagues under the Sea" as seen on their website. That's well and good, and our meal was very enjoyable, but these folks are missing the best parts of the experience. We made Putbus our home base for further exploration of the island, and this was very conveniently done staying in this hotel. Our immaculate room in the main building was very large by German standards, quite well equipped, attractive, extremely comfortable and favorably priced. Because the hotel offered that rare commodity that we Americans call "screens", we threw open the windows at night after our days of exploration and were lulled by the gentle breezes wafting in off the water. It was nature at its finest without any hardship. I even heard my first cuckoos and they weren't coming from clocks. We weren't enthralled with the busload of overnight tourists who swarmed the dining room like locusts one evening, but we planned around them and they'd departed by the next morning. Although we saw a lot, we'd love to explore Ruegen again and relish another peace-infused weekend. Although we're not the type to repeat experiences when there are so many new places to visit, we'd definitely return to Hotel Nautilus.…
