We were driving from Pietermaritzburg to the Wild Coast in South Africa. We wanted a stopover and found this place in the AA Directory. It was an excellent choice. We were made very welcome on arrival with tea and cake. We had a super dinner with the other guests and hosts at the same table. The food was very good as was the breakfast. The bedroom was delightful with an en suite bathroom - the bed (standard double) was a little firm for our taste but the linen etc. was very good. The surrounding countryside was pretty. We would certainly use this guest house again if we were in the area.

My mother and I drove to Kopstad from PE as it seemed the biggest town on the map on our selected route before travelling onto JHB airport the next day. I made contact with James after finding thier listing on a wheretostay (one of four), there are more apparently, but it genuinely is not worth looking elsewhere until you have tried firstly with these guys.

The roads form PE (N2) is hideous to drive on, with roadworks covering what seemed half the journey, it took well over 10 hours and had to find Peacehaven in the dark which whilst adventure for me, was heart-attack time for mum and the hire car's exhaust. Please be advised the road is not good (at time of writing Feb 2013) so advise an earlyish arrival so you can at least ride the ruts with minimal scraping!

However, despite landing at well past 8pm in complete darkness, James and Pat welcomed us and delivered the best home cooked meal I'd had (sorry mum) for a long-time, with a cold beer and two other guests delivering a Fire Engine to a local brigade to swap some stories into the evening, home from home as others have commented sums it up for me also.

I could tell you how wonderful the whole set-up is here, but I think it would spoil the surprise, got take a look for yourself!

Room Tip: The main house has some rooms, but I stayed in the outbuilding, it was plain exterior but framed...

We stopped on our way to the Wild Coast and it was really beautiful. In the middle of nowhere on an amazing peaceful farm with a lovely and caring couple. We really felt like home and I would have loved to stay longer. There is also a very cute dog named Charlie. I would really recommend this place.

A magic place! We are always overwhelmed by this beautiful fascinating view to Mount Currie which you face directly from the terrace.
Perfect and generous hospitality. Land-ladies cooking is extraordinarily good.
Open-hearted - you always feel at home. Sleep like an angel in a perfect clean and quiet room.
It´s a "must" on our way from Durban to Capetown! We will come back for sure.

This farm home is a little off the beaten path and includes driving a couple of miles down a gravel road, but you won't regret staying with this interesting couple. They provided an excellent beef filet dinner with all the trimmings and shared stories of their life in South Africa. The room was large and comfortable with an amazing exposed thatched roof. Breakfast was also excellent topped off with a walk around their gardens.

"Arrive as a stranger, leave as a friend" is the motto of Peacehaven and Pat and James certainly live up to it.
we had a wonderful stay here, very peaceful, very welcoming and had a lovely communal dinner of Pat's home cooking. We met the other guests over a very convivial evening.
I can thoroughly recommend a stay here. You can sit on the terrace and have a cold beer and take in the wonderful view across the fields to Mount Currie. They have the friendliest dogs too who might join you as you relax.

We stayed here on our way to Umngazi River at Port St Johns. The rooms are comfortable with beautiful white linens. The children loved running around on the farm and seeing all the farm animals. The dinner and breakfast was devine! Truly a haven for the weary traveller!

We stayed for one night during a 34 night road trip, so this review is relatively objective.

Well, what a find in this area - wish we could have stayed for another night or so.

Relatively easily found in a superb tranquil rural location. The owners were not on site when we arrived, but the staff made us very welcome and served tea and cakes as a matter of course.

The property is homely farmhouse style and is large, well fitted out and very comfortable.

Unfortunately, Eskom were up to their normal antics with an unexpected power cut, but our hosts were up to providing an excellent dinner despite this - having decided to braai a fillet of beef rather than rely on the Eskon powered oven and what a tasty meal, far too much for two oldies to manage.

The bedroom was very comfortable and provided all the necessities, as did the bathroom.

Breakfast was to the same high standard as dinner - wonderful.

There are dogs at the property, but these only respond to 'invitation' and for a dog lover, provided a 'fix' - especially the black labbie with a lazily wagging tail.

If we are in the area again we'll definitely stay again - highly recommended.

My husband and I enjoyed a lovely overnight stay at this guesthouse, set in beautiful farmlands, with lovely views. We were warmly welcomed by our hostess, Pat, and offered tea straight away in our well appointed room overlooking the pastures. The evening meal was a delicious home cooked dinner enjoyed in the guesthouse dining room with other guests. We chatted for ages, joined by our hosts who made us feel like family. This tranquil spot is a welcome and refreshing break on a long road trip. We hope to visit again soon. George and Annemarie Levine
