During December holidays we spent two nights at Montpellier vine farm in Tulbagh. It was a very interesting experience to say the least, whereby we had lots of fun and enjoyed their vines. Their staff was really excellent and they tried their best to make our holiday fun and enjoyment. Special treat was the breakfast in the vine cellar and playing with the farm dogs.

We decided to pop in for a wine tasting earlier today and was pleasantly surprised how beautiful the venue was. However, we've been battling to find a wine farm that serves decent food or light meals and various wine farm websites indicated no such offering so skipped this vineyard at first. We eventually landed up in town for a quick snack. Upon our arrival at Montpelier (after lunch), we were surprised and disappointed to find out that they offered amazing pizzas but this was not advertised on their website, Facebook or at the entrance of the estate. It's not been our first visit to Tulbagh and if we knew this we would have visited multiple times. Please, please, PLEASE advertise this better seeing that very few vineyards actually offering anything to eat.

We recently visited Montpellier for a wedding and while there we stayed in one of the Manor House rooms. Montpellier's natural beauty is mesmerizing with big gardens, lawns and even a mini forest spread around the property. The Manor House is an old Cape Dutch house with a similar, yet slightly more modern, design on the inside, and our room was comfortable and spacious enough for two people. It is good to note that the bathrooms within the manor house are not all en-suite, some of the rooms have to share bathrooms so it's a better option for friends or family travelling together. They also have a nice pool that blends into the surroundings for those hot summer days. Something that my wife and I really enjoyed was walking around in the gardens with the highlight being the forest area, as it really made us feel relaxed and forget about that daily hustle-and-bustle. At Montpellier they have a Deli / Curio shop, Restaurant and Wine Tastings (reviewed separately) so you are definitely going to be entertained while there. The wedding ceremony was held in a quaint chapel, with amazing views of the surrounding Tulbagh Mountain ranges and vineyards, and the reception was held outside on the lawns next to the forest which was mesmerizing. It is good to note that they have various venue options to choose from to suite different styles and weather conditions (if you are looking for a wedding destination). There are also several other accommodation options available on the property. During our stay there were however a couple of things that I think management can look at improving. As we stayed in the manor house, which is also open to the public, I recommend there be someone frequently available at the reception area. Also, I recommend that house staff ensure that toilet paper in the bathrooms are restocked every morning and evening without guests having to ask. Finally, just as an added bonus, I recommend they supply a bottle of water for each guest in the room, as not everyone is comfortable drinking the tap water. Above all these things, we still had a great time and think this is a good option from which you can explore Tulbagh, or where you can host a wedding.

I booked a room in advance with specific features (the most important being a bathroom that is not INSIDE the room) and on the day my husband and I arrived, we were told our room had been changed. The room we were allocated was right in the entrance of the Manor House with hardly any privacy and I was specific in my booking (in writing) that my husband and I were there for our anniversary. Besides the fact that I had a toilet facing my bed, there were issues with the plumbing and we had a loud bubbling noise that kept us awake all night. We did not get any rest at all! This was the most disappointing experience ever. Not to mention cobwebs and dust all over the room and furniture. The accommodation really puts a damper on the beautiful location. Also, having our room changed, we did not receive a discount and still had to pay the price of the other room. NOT WORTH THE MONEY.

Montpellier Wine Estate in Tulbagh provides excellent Service and beautiful, rustic and clean guestrooms located on a working Wine Farm. The staff is very friendly and accommodating and it was a great pleasure staying there. Keep it up!

The cottage we stayed in had a comfortable bed with good sheets, good water pressure in the shower. I wouldn't recommend staying there in cold weather - doors and windows have multiple gaps and the cold air seeps through. This is just a detail, but it could have made our stay better: wood was supplied, but there were no matches (nor anywhere close to buy them as winery and surrounding shops close at 4pm).

We phoned the reception and request overnight facilities as we were in the area. The lady said we must report at the Manor House as they have a room for us and is waiting for us. Must put on record that she was very friendly. When we arrived I was about to climb out my car when 3 big dogs stormed at me and I chased them away as I was not familiar with them and did not know how friendly they are. The next moment a man started shouting at me from his upper appartment and told me this is private parking. The more I tried to explain that I don't know were to go as the sign said this is the Manor House and that I have phoned and was directed here, the ruder, entitled attitude and arrogant behaviour he displayed and this in front of his family and friends. I found out from the gentleman who was waiting for me to show me to the available room that it was the owner. Well needless to say we decided NOT to spend our hard earned money on a very arrogant and very entitled owners facility. We will never ever make use of Montpellier in any possible way whatsoever in the future.

The whole place has beautiful scenery and the gardens are nice just need urgent attention, overgrown and not cleaned up. Atmosphere on your way to wine tasting very nice with the music in the trees. All the buildings looked very bad and needs maintenance. We stayed in the stall rooms. Nice and clean, but they do not service the rooms. We spilled something on the bed and had to sleep like that again for 2nd night. We came back to late to ask for clean sheets. We didn't know that and read later on somewhere that you must ask for service when you book in, they didn't ask and we didn't know we must ask. We stayed for two nights and had only 1 roll of toilet paper. Seeing that we were two woman, we ran out and it was to late to ask someone. Very uncomfortable. And the price of R120 for breakfast is ridiculous.

We had a wonderful Winter getaway weekend at Montpellier. The farm is extremely serene and therefore it is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of society. The staff are exceptionally helpful and always go the extra mile for their guests. The units have a romantic feel to them and the indoor fireplace was just magical. Tulbagh is a quaint little town that has much to offer, we will most definitely be returning to Montpellier in Summer.

We booked the Constantia Cottages last weekend and specifically asked for a double bed and two single beds as we were a party of 3 Single ladies and wanted separate beds. We were assured this was confirmed. We arrived and there were two double beds. We phoned reception and the lady who had booked and confirmed our cottage argued with us even after we read out and re-sent the email correspondence. She actually said words to the effect "if I am wrong then I'm wrong and will take responsibility but if you are wrong, you are wrong". That immediately left a bitter taste in our mouths with her attitude. She then accepted responsibility and we were able to move into another cottage (Rietdakkie) and were given a bottle of wine. When we asked her what happened, she just laughed and said we are really lucky as we have been so busy! Yes, it was all sorted but her attitude was just gobsmaking! Rietdakkie is very cosy and quaint but I would change the loo seat as its chipped and doesnt look so hygenic. We enjoyed the rest of our stay after a bad start and Emanuel is always outstanding!
