After some initial misunderstanding about our booking we were shown our upstairs flat. The building is old but well kept and clean. All the usual extras like coffee/tea etc were available.A mosquito net over the king size bed in the main bedroom but not over the two single beds in the 2nd room. Mosquito repellent was supplied but in the end the mosquito's won the battle. Two more nets is a must! We requested safe parking for our motorcycles and were graciously accommodated by the owner in front of his own garage. Thanks for that!

My wife and I had the pleasure to stay over for two nights when we were in Tulbagh. The Features of the units are true to the Cape Dutch Style and makes you feel like you are staying in the 1800s again.

The location is central to a lot of things, easy to get to the shops and many restaurants to choose from nearby. We took a drive out to the Waterfall Nature Reserve which is a must see in Tulbagh.

We also just took one full day of exploring the beautiful area of Tulbagh and surroundings and had a lovely soft and spacious bed to come home to after our day out.

The Cottage we stayed in had a queen size bed with an on-suite bathroom. There was a small lounge section to relax in. Just outside our door was a beautiful courtyard with a table and stools to sit and have a coffee with a lush green view of the garden.

If you want to experience Tulbagh and it's beautiful History and have a central location to move from, then this is a must stay. The views from the top deck of the building is also marvellous. a trip to the Kitchen Gardens is also recommended!

When we got there the place had already closed and the receptionist came to meet us. She then helped us to change the booking to a bigger room but at the same price. The room was very spacious and clean. It has a very vintage feel to and comes equiped with an ac and dstv. Really enjoyed my stay, will definitly do it again.

What a disappointment! We had been looking forward to this weekend so much and we were so let down! We have stayed at CDQ before and the experience was good last time so we came back. Yikes!

This time was really bad and I believe it was only because Jayson was not there. Charmaine, as sweet as she is, does not know how to work anything in the rooms and and she does not inform guests of very pertinent information, like the power will get switched off every night at 12 and only come back on around 6-6.30am. Don’t you think guests have a right to know this? I am quite a night owl and may well have been washing my hair or something. On top of this, the room temperature must have been around 30-35 degrees and there were so many mosquitos biting me incessantly. With no air-con the room was insufferably hot and the mosquitos were prolific! And then there was no mosquito repellant in the room! I searched up and down. Seriously???

We also had no TV all weekend because the staff did not know how to operate it and there were no instructions in the room. There was no guide book/file at all, like one you usually find in a hotel room.

Then I wanted to lock our valuables in the safe and when we eventually found Charmaine, she told us the keys to the safe were lost so we can’t use it but we can use the reception safe. Considering there was never anyone at reception we thought this was not a good idea, as we may need to get something out the safe. We therefore ended up carrying our valuables around with us all weekend.

On the first night, I made some tea only to discover there was no milk in the fridge or powdered sachets so I just had to throw it down the sink as there was no staff around to get some milk from. There were also toiletries provided but they were all glass bottles filled with white liquids and none of them were marked so I didn’t know what was inside each one!

On the plus side, the room is really spacious and the bathroom has a separate bath and shower. The bed and linen and really comfortable and the hotel is situated really conveniently.

We stayed here by accident as the opposite Hotel was closed and it turned out to be one of our best stays in SA. The premises consist out of several heritage protected cape-dutch houses. All are splendidly furnished by a the very engaged owners - of whom one is actually a historian. All rooms have a different theme, yet all perfectly put together. There is even an Art Deco apartment which could just become a filmset. We stayed in the honeymoon flat which features a stunning colonial style and has a beautiful seating area just in front of it - facing the quiet church street which again is lined with heritage protected houses and gardens. The breakfast is served in a big communal dining hall where the guest can connect ! Altogether, a perfect experience !!!

The place is beautiful and historic, although the pool area is dusty, and there was dog poo that was never cleaned. It smelled and I didn't want to lie on the sunbed, the entire reason I wanted to break-away.
The braai grid is old and rusty, if we knew we would have brought our own. The patio at the braai area was dirty and haven't been cleaned in a while.
The beds are ok, but the mozzie net were to small for the bed. Only one person could use it, it was uncomfortable as it had to be wrapped around my husband, it didn't reach the other side of the bed. I had to sleep on the small cot in the living area which was obviously to small for me.
There was no aircon in the actual room, no fan either, and it was INCREDIBLY hot.
The TV's dstv did not work at all.
The fridge is very small for a self catering place.
There is no coffee mugs, only tea cups. Not a biggy, just a mention :-)

Dear guest, thank you for taking the time to inform us about these issues in the Famly Suite of Tulbagh Country Guest House. Your comments are fair, and in my defence all I can offer is that our gardener resigned/walked out last week and our maintenance man has been struggling to keep things together and keep the courtyards clean with all the wind and dust that we experienced during your stay. I shall install a larger mozzie net ASAP and am sorry that you had to sleep on the day bed (FYI it is a full single mattress). There should have been a fan as well as a DSTV/Internet TV box in that room, and I will address this and your other valid issues with my staff. All these items could have been organized for you if you had brought it to Charmaine attention during you stay. I do however apologize for not having it right the first time. Yours in apology, I assure you that we will do better next time. Jayson Clark - Owner

We loved our stay right in the heart of the historic center of Tulbagh. It is a big advantage to be able to walk to most of the museums and restaurants. Perfect base to explore the many wine farms in the area.

We booked for one night only as we were in Tulbagh for a wedding. We queried if there was safe parking, and originally the room that we booked didn't have a parking spot. Jason then changed our room to accommodate us with safe parking behind the gate. We were very grateful that he went out of his way to do this for us! The room was beautiful. Very spacious and the bed! What a wonderful night's sleep did we have on the most comfortable mattress. The following morning we had a lovely breakfast. Overall a great experience!

**Review of the Superior Tulbagh Country Guest House**

Our stay at the Tulbagh Country Guest House felt like stepping into a different era, a time when you might expect to see dukes and duchesses roaming the halls. The journey from Cape Town to Tulbagh was a beautiful transition from city chaos to serene countryside, with stunning views that hinted at the relaxation ahead.

The guest house is in a beautifully restored heritage building, full of character and charm. The room we stayed in was spacious and decorated with period-appropriate furniture, transporting us back in time. The decor was elegant yet comfortable, allowing us to enjoy the feeling of being royally pampered.

Given the historic ambiance and the many attractions in and around Tulbagh—like the heritage sites and the charming wine farms—I'd recommend staying for at least two nights to fully experience everything this place has to offer.

Overall, this Country Guest House exceeded our expectations, providing a truly memorable experience. It's a 5-star stay for anyone seeking a touch of old-world charm and a break from the everyday hustle and bustle.
