In 1700 the first settlers came to "The Land of Waveren" which was renamed Tulbagh in 1806. Straatskerk, now known as Morgansvlei Estate, was leased to Jannetjie de Clerq in 1710 by Simon van der Stel, Governor of the Cape of Good Hope as one of the five original farms in Waveren. Morgansvlei, restored and operated by the Morgan Family, is now a working estate making it possible to embrace the farm atmosphere by taking leisurely strolls through the vineyards and orchards.Morgansvlei became a stylish and romantic retreat for single night getaways to 3 day weddings, conferences or bed&breakfast breakaways situated in historic Tulbagh Valley, only 75 minutes from Cape Town. Accommodation at Morgansvlei is of deluxe standard with superior linen. Guests can enjoy stunning views of the dam, mountains and vineyards as well as a spacious swimming pool, covered braai (barbeque) and entertainment area. Breakfast - in the Farm Breakfast Room - is included.

Our stay at Morgansvlei was thoroughly enjoyable in every respect - close to Cape Town , very comfortable accommodation , reasonably priced , superb breakfasts delivered to our room each morning and very friendly and welcoming service from Lida and her staff . Definitely a place to return to sooner rather than later . Set in superb surroundings with wonderful views and interesting bird life

A very welcoming arrival with wine and cheese in our room! Beautifully decorated with a sunny patio and chairs overlooking the pond. Homely styled decor! A super comfortable bed...spent the weekend exploring the neighborhood wineries recommended by the manager of the estate. Woke up to breakfast served ina little basket on our patio. Such lovely spoils. Will definitely recommend!

This property is stunning. My three days made me relaxed as a two week holiday.
Lida was very attentive and makes sure that the property runs like a Swiss watch. The breakfast was excellent served in the historic building.

This farm looks good on pictures and as good in real life. Beautiful old Cape Dutch buildings are set around a picturesque reflecting pond surrounded by towering mountains and vineyards.

The rooms are basic and right on top of each other; reasonable showers and beds but mould all over the ceilings, very few in-room amenities and no privacy. House rules framed on the bedside tables are nothing out of the ordinary but communicated in a way that really makes you wonder what sort of people they host here. Breakfast was typical but good quality with pleasant, simple service. Tulbagh is less than 5 minutes' drive away.

The function venue and chapel are charming and well-designed. This place is best suited for large groups or events where everyone knows each other and is staying for just one night. For a quiet couple's retreat go somewhere else.

We spent one night at Morgansvlei and had a lovely peaceful stay. It is on a farm and our room had a beautiful view of the dam. The room is basic, but had a lovely fireplace and everything that we needed.

Breakfast was simple, but really lovely. Service is great and friendly.

Will be back!

This beautiful estate with its lush manicured lawns really sells itself.

We were blessed to be hosted by Lida & Tulbagh Tourism at Morgansvlei Country Estate for the Vintage & Vine Faire in May 2018.

From the moment we arrived on this working estate with it elaborate vineyards and orchards we felt welcome.

The beautifully decorated cottages come with all you need to make your stay a home away from home with a touch of luxury.

Waking up to the morning mist over the dam as the sun glistens on the water sets the pace for the day.

Breakfast is served in a cottage, the “Farm Breakfast Room,” overlooking the water.
Tea, coffee and juice are on a self-service basis as is your cold breakfast consisting of fresh seasonal fruit salad, yoghurt, Muesli or cornflakes and toast.

The cooked breakfast of traditional eggs, bacon, mushrooms and sausage are to order.

The staff are extremely pleasant and very accommodating and gladly fill you in of the history of Morgansvlei.

On the 2nd morning of our stay a fire was lit in the dining area which added a warm ambience to this beautiful setting.

Morgansvlei Country Estate is beautifully set out from the cottages, dining area, pool & braai area to the function room overlooking the dam. A photographer’s paradise for weddings, birthday parties and other functions as the shadows of the trees and Dutch style buildings reflect on the water.

Thank you Lida, Morgansvlei Country Estate & Tulbagh Tourism and especially Patty for a truly unforgettable introduction to what Tulbagh is all about, awesome friendliness, stunning scenery and the Cape’s unforgettable history.

Arrange your stay today. You definitely won’t be sorry!

Undoubtedly a very pretty setting ... but the rooms are jam packed next to one another and are very basic with not even a chair in the room. It was raining while we were there and as the patio did not have a solid roof on it, we were forced to stay inside our room sitting on the bed!!! 2 rooms share a fridge, microwave and the patio and as such, there is no privacy. There was no Weber on the porch as some of the others rooms had and this was disappointing as I had been told that it was self catering ??? There was no TV in the room which was not a tragedy as we had taken our own card games along but after the 3rd power failure, we packed up and checked out . Housekeeping also needs to be followed up on as the room had certainly not been checked-over before we moved in.

We had been to Morgansvlei for a breakaway, it was truly a Wonderful weekend, the staff were really helpful and friendly. Had a lovely view over a pond. The accommodation was lovely, clean and comfortable, little semi detached apartments. We were the only visitors the Friday eve, and felt really spoilt when we went to breakfast on the Saturday morning. They only serve breakfast, which was really good, and refreshing. Received a lovely little cheese platter on arrival. Went to visit Paddagang restaurant on Friday and Saturday evening for supper, which was absolutely delightful. Visited a few wine farms on Saturday, Saxonwold was a great wine taster. Unfortunately, Twee Jonge Gezellen (Krone wine farm) was closed for a private function. Would definitely be back

We spent the Saturday night of the Christmas in Winter weekend here with my sister and her husband.
Morgansvlei's setting, with the dam and the surrounding mountains, is very pretty.
Our rooms were spotlessly clean, spacious and well appointed.
The included breakfast was very good.
Great!
