First of all, amazing views all around, exactly a advertised! Very quiet and peaceful, the cottages are clean, spacious enough and comfortable. Everything is available (pots, plates, etc), so basically one only needs to bring their food. We felt very welcome, with fresh flowers waiting for us and a welcome letter explaining the rules and giving more information.
There are some products pit for use in the kitchen (olives, jam, oil etc) to use at extra cost. Please do not skip the olive oil:)
Venishree is the friendliest host I have encountered, she was always a WhatsApp message away if we needed to ask anything, and always eager to help. The farm is close enough to town and the wine farms around, but far enough from the noise and the road, which was perfect.
The gravel road can be tricky and slippery when it rains, but it isn't a long stretch.
We would definitely visit again, especially for a longer time than just a weekend!

Note this is a review of the campsite, not the cottages at Fraaigelegen. Campsite is a large open grass area with trees mainly on the sides, electrical points through the middle. NOTE: you will need to carefully level / position your caravan as there is a slight gradient. 2 nice braai Bomas. 1 small swimming pool (I assume it's only filled in summer when needed) Clean ablutions, decorated with fresh flowers, note the showers have glass doors. Outside wash up area, with braai wood for sale. Watch out for ticks (marking down the "Cleanliness" for the creepycrawlies, but hey you're on a farm). Beautiful view of the mountains and farmlands. Nice farmstalls nearby, nicely situated. There is wifi signal if you need it. Nice weekend break.

The farm is at a scenic place close by the Witzenberg Mountain range just outside Tulbach. The owners/hosts Venishree and Juergen Mayer were helpful and friendly and we felt welcome immediately for our overnight stay. Although the camp sites are basic it is well place for a quite breakaway and the ablution is 5 star. We also bought their award winning olive oil which is outstanding and it has a nice touch/history to its name given by Juergen and Venishree

We made use of the camping facilities at Fraaigelegen, which were first class and spotless. We pre-ordered some products from the farm, which were neatly packed and ready upon our arrival. From our tent, we could enjoy 360 degrees of incredible views of the surrounding mountains. I cannot wait for our next visit!

Fraaigelegen Farm is situated in the most stunning position just outside the centre of Tulbagh where you are surrounded by a backdrop of mountains and vineyards. From the moment we made contact, the owners Venishree and Juergen were so warm and welcoming. On entering the farm you immediately feel at peace. We stayed in Cabernet Cottage where we had sweeping views over the farm and the dam. The cottage was fully equipped with everything needed, the attention to detail was 10 out of 10. We loved being able to switch off and to be able to sit outside and just take in the beauty of the surroundings. If you love birdlife there is plenty to hear and see and for this who love to stargaze the evenings are incredible! To top this off the homegrown olive oil is hands down the best olive oil we have ever come across. Having stayed in many establishments this is definitely tops, the owners are so lovely and accommodating during our time there and we loved our experience so much we ended up staying an extra night and cannot wait to return again in the future!

Unfortunately, we were bombarded by flies! It made the stay really unpleasant and decreased the value of the weekend.. we even left early. Staying there with a small child and all the flies made it very unhygienic. It does however seem that the hosts are very aware of the problem and are sorting it out.

The hosts were however very kind, apologetic, and hospitable bringing us a fly trap and eco-friendly insect spray. We would return again IF the flies were gone.

Dear Sanja, thank you for your honest and constructive feedback. We are sincerely sorry for your experience in these very unusual circumstances. There seems to be a terrible problem in the whole valley right now. Nature and the weather patterns seem to have the upper hand but we have taken additional measures now and hoping to get the problem sorted. We look forward to your next visit...winter is beautiful out here. Sending warm regards, Venishree and Juergen Mayer

After missing our 4 monthly getaways, a spur of the moment saw us booking the Cabernet cottage for 2nights. The best decision we made. Set on the base of the mountains, the view of the valley and mountain ranges were unheralded..that is once you can draw your eyes away from the shimmering refreshing dam a 100m from the cottage. It was so quiet that you felt that you had to apologize to mother nature, for disturbing the peace, when eating a crisp. A time to reflect, plan and just veg with your thoughts.
The cottage had every convenience you needed, bar a TV ( thank goodness). The aircon was an especially welcome sight after spending a day in +30C. Thoughtful items that one may have forgotten to bring are available in the cottage and work on the honesty principle.
Hosts Juergen and Ven are in a class of their own. Worldly travelled, witty and delightful company, with a genuine care of people, were the perfect tonic for a neighborly chat.
The whole experience was relaxing, refreshing and rewarding..what more do you want from a weekend away.
Return booking in winter guaranteed

Dear Tony, how very kind of you. You were both amazing guests and we loved the banter. We were delighted to hear that you got to see some of the local spots and even met our great neighbours at Fynbos Guest Farm and Animal Sanctuary!!! Sounds like it was indeed the 3 R's....REST, RETREAT and REJUVENATE:-) We can't wait to meet you both again. Thank you so much for choosing Fraaigelegen Farm for your spontaneous getaway and thank you for that wicked Irish sense of humor!! Regards, Venishree and Juergen

We spent 10 days in Shiraz cottage which has an amazing view of the mountains, vineyard and lake. It was totally peaceful and thanks to the great beds, and blackout curtains we slept fantastically. The kitchen also had everything we needed to cook (no restaurant could compete on the view). During our tour of the Cape this was the best accommodation we had by far. Venishree and Juergen the hosts had excellent recommendations and couldn’t do enough to help with organising things. We will be back as soon as possible!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We were traveling with our 5 year old daughter for school holidays & asked Venishree for recommendations in the area. We thoroughly enjoyed all 3 we went to - the Animal Sanctury was filled with so much care for the spaces & animals & was a delight for us all, Saronsberg wine warm had lovely big lawns & outdoor art installations as well as an indoor gallery & Obiqua restaurant had the best burger I've had (one of those big delicious messy burgers!) delicious wine, yummy kids meals & a large kids play area & very kind staff! It all made for a great little getaway so many thanks to our hosts for their kindness & recommendations. The cottage itself is lovely, comfortable, neat & well thought out. We enjoyed the little stream outside & walks around the farm. The peacocks were an added interest!

We spent almost 2 weeks in Ven´s and Juergen´s lovely Shiraz cottage with a magnficent view across the vineyards and the pond. The spacious cottage is situated against the backdrop of a majestic mountain range. What a beautiful and peaceful place! We felt very comfortable from day 1 and the cottage was equipped with everything we needed. Falling asleep to the sound of crickets and waking up to birds singing - we had a wonderful stay! And thank you, Ven and Juergen, for your warm and kind welcome. We felt at home right from the start. I hope to be back soon!
