Thali Thali is a 1,460 hectare Cape West Coast game and fynbos reserve situated just off the R27 near Langebaan, just over 1 hours drive from Cape Town, bordering the West Coast National Park. The Cape West Coast is intoxicating and the Langebaan area with its beautiful lagoon has a charm that keeps people coming back year after year. We are proud of our 3-star grading and we can welcome up to 29 guests to our family. Our restaurant is open daily and we serve generous, beautifully displayed food. A visit to Thali Thali offers the ideal laid-back West Coast style break-away – complete with game drives, archery lessons and sundowners on the deck for the not so adventurous. We boast a wide range of game like buffalo, kudu, oryx, giraffe, red hartebeest, eland, zebra, springbok, blue wildebeest, duiker, bontebok, steenbok, ostrich and emu. The reserve is also home to many different bird species.

We stayed at Thali Thali for 3 nights in a canvas lodge (big tent with normal beds, bathroom). The Game Reserve is small so the owners and staff know you, and they were lovely and helpful. We did 2 game drives with our kids, 1 and 6, who both loved it. We saw all the animals that they have up close. They don't have the big 5 but those parks are a lot more expensive and don't allow under 5- year- olds on game drives. In the afternoon deer come to your tent and you can feed them. The restaurant is so amazingly good and not expensive. Frankly it was the highlight of our trip and we would definitely recommend going there.

Many small game reserves that cannot boast the presence of the "big five" are often overlooked as must visit locations. We have been visiting Langebaan for a number of years and have possibly been guilty of overlooking what is on our doorstep. This visit changed that when we decided to visit for lunch and a game drive, a fantastic experience from start to finish. The setting is not 'beautiful' but it is natural covered in indigenous plants, it's a quiet and peaceful setting despite it's location between the R27 and R45 which you can't see or hear. The staff are warm, friendly and welcoming. We started our visit with lunch in the well furnished dining terrace. The menu was varied with something to suit most no matter if your appetite is small or large! the food when it arrived was fresh, well presented and very tasty. There is no rush, you can relax and chat over your meal enjoying the atmosphere and, if you are not driving, a glass of South African wine! The game drive was really enjoyable with our driver/guide ensuring we were given many interesting facts about the animas. I haven't seen the accommodation but if what I did see is anything to go by I don't think anyone would be disappointed. Not five star luxury but it is very clearly a five star experience and great value for money.

Super friendly and accommodating staff, both in hotell, restaurant and game drive.
Facilities were clean and nice.
Food menu was a bit too long, but all 6 of our party received tasty giant sized portions.
Star gazing in the night sky was also great in this location.

We had a great stay at Thali Thali game reserve with our extended family occupying the old farm house, 2 chalets and 2 luxury chalets.

Especially the old farm house was wonderful and was the epicentre of our visit - the place where all the cooking and social gatherings happen.

Amalia, Thys, Andriette and their team were helpful, friendly and went out of their way to make our stay pleasant, comfortable and fun.

We were not really their for the ‘game’ and wild life, but more to celebrate Christmas in one location together, so I cannot rate the wildlife side of the resort, though we did see some.

Myself and my husband celebrated our anniversary at the Thali Thali Lodge and we loved every moment we spent there. Staff was friendly, accommodation was cosy and clean. The game drive was interesting. For winter it would be nice (if financially feasable) to install private jacuzzi's by the tent chalets and for warmer days consider enlarging the splash pool or something to that effect.

My gf and I are fairly new to going away and spending the night out at lodges and it was genuinely so awesome that we would definitely recommend it to anyone. Perfect for couples or family. We stayed in the luxury en suite canvas lodge. It had aircon and an electric blanket. There are no stove tops (is a microwave) but why would you want to eat in when the restaurant is THAT amazing. The food is delicious, affordable and they are incredibly generous with their portions! Staff were 10/10 friendly. Bianca took us on a game drive - spotted pretty much 95% of the animals there. Animals roam around the camp which is pretty cool. Animals are well respected and are healthy. Unique experience. Thank you Thali Thali for setting a high set precedence.

Accomadation was ok ,
We had a complimentary glass of bubbly at dinner plus a R35 corkage for our wine....
Dinner was great , veggies , roast potatoes , pork , steak , salad , etc to choose from ...

Thali Thali isn't the place to be if you're overly precious and looking for 5 star luxury, but if you want peace and quiet, to be out in nature where fallow deer come for a pat on the head at sunset, children have a huge area to play in and to experience a game farm owned by very passionate and knowledgeable people - then this is the place for you. We stayed in one of the chalets which had everything we needed. There is no air conditioning but during end December the night was cool enough that we didn't need it. Game drive the next morning was fabulous. We were offered an 8AM drive, saw all the wildlife they had on the farm - even the elusive kudu - and Thys accompanied by Trigger the jack russell, were fantastic guides. we learnt a lot about game farm management, the animals and our 16 month old toddler was fascinated by the giraffes, ostrich, wildebeest and buffalo. Breakfast was more than adequate, portions are large, and very accommodating for young kids and babies which is an important point as it seems that in Cape Town, toddlers weren't welcome is quite a few restaurants. Andriette whom we communicated with over Whatsapp was always really responsive.

The safari was really worth the drive and stay! Even though the parc does not include the Big 5, it still contains very impressing animals like giraffes, buffaloes, a dromedary, zebras, springboks, deer and many more. Some got very close to us and that was an overwhelming experience. The guide explained everything well and in details. Really excellent.
The accommodation - a stay in a luxury tent - was all right. There were thornes all over the floor, which hurt the feed and indicated that the place had not too thoroughly been cleaned. Other than that, it was all right and worth a night.
The restaurant was quiet bad though. I never had such a bad Mojito with a mint liquor, no crushed limes or fresh mint. My wife had such a horrible beef steak that it was hard to cut and eat. I tried it too. It tasted like shoe sole - or it least we imagine that it would have been a similar taste. My meal with venison was quiet good though.
The personal was really friendly. All
in worth a stay but certain aspects could be improved.

What a wonderful weekend at Thali Thali. The accommodation is excellent, comfortable and relaxing. The food is first class. The owners and staff are welcoming and friendly. We would highly recommend Thali Thali as a destination when visiting the West Coast.

Please advise if it is more luxurious to stay in a chalet or a luxury tent. We are in our 50’s. Many thanks. Janine
Answer from Amalia V
Langebaan, South Africa26 contributions2 helpful votes
Hello Janine. It all depends on what you are looking for. The tents have better views and have more of a safari feeling. The chalets have equipped kitchens en TV's that the tents don't have, but are closer to the main buildings.
