Merindol Manor is one of the oldest heritage homes in the picturesque wine and olive producing Riebeek Valley in the heart of the Swartland, about an hour’s drive from Cape Town in South Africa. Once a stately family home, now a lovingly restored boutique guesthouse, Merindol Manor has landscaped gardens, its own olive grove and freshly-picked fruit and vegetables from its bountiful gardens. Breakfast eggs are collected from the fluffy hens each morning. The four spacious double rooms have crisp white linen and en-suite facilities. Each room has a mountain, pool or garden view. There is WiFi throughout and the Manor’s Littlest Library is lovingly stocked with both French and South African literature, including comic books for small people. Your hands-on host at Merindol Manor is the affable Vincent. After 17 years in the banking world of Geneva, London and Luxembourg, he founded a tourism business in his homeland of Belgium. Vince moved to South Africa in 2016 and loves to share his passion for travel, cycling, good food and wine with his guests. Riebeek Valley is in the wine-producing Swartland – a region known for its world-class Shiraz and award-winning Chenin wines. The valley is also home to a host of independent olive oil producers. The luxury guesthouse is the perfect hub to explore the surrounding regions such as the quaint fishing village of Paternoster on the West Coast which is a 45 minutes drive away, the lush winelands of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, also 45 minutes away and then the rugged Cederberg mountains which is an hour’s drive away. And then it’s only an hour to the city of Cape Town and the V&A Waterfront for the bustling city experience. Return at the end of the day to the peaceful Manor an authentic Swiss fondue prepared by Vince. Merindol is the place to relax, explore the local restaurants and wineries and enjoy a peaceful time in the scenic countryside.

Amazing Boutique Hotel with incredible host. Vincent & his team go beyond what is required and one expects to be honest. Polite, courteous & exceptional hosting. I was feeling a little under the weather, Vincent was immediately available & brought a few items & offered ti go to the pharmacy. The hotel is gorgeous, plush gorgeous rooms… not the modern look if that’s your thing but tasteful eloquent rooms that are spacious. The pool, garden areas are just as gorgeous. Vincent recommended a beautiful French restaurant which was simply heaven on earth! We will definitely be back one night is not enough!!

Property's Favourite Review
Beautifully restored and well furnished house from 1904 with lovely veranda and gardens. Clean, comfortable rooms. Well stocked with water, tea, coffee, rusks, fruit and even Allesveloren port in the library. Superb quality breakfast spread, with each delicious item well selected by the helpful French host, Vincent. Includes freshly make juices, delicious bread, cheese and cold meats, very fresh fruit salad & yoghurt plus a full cooked breakfast and real coffee. Excellent value for money and a top choice if you are visiting Riebeck Kasteel / Ribebeck West.

What a great old building to have the privilege of staying in. The room was very spacious and clean. We had a friendly check in with no fuss. The property is magnificent. Loved the well kept gardens. After a very ample breakfast we did a garden walkabout before leaving. The property has secure parking

We stayed here for one night when visiting Rieebek Valley. The manor is stunning and well worth an extra mile. Beautiful house, garden and views of the mountains. Very nice, friendly and helpful owner and staff. We could take a nice 10-15 min walk in the day to the vineyard Allesverloren close by. (Very nice wintasting and food if you like) we also walked to have a lovely lunch at Marras wines close by. Evening was spent by the beautiful poolside. Thank you Vincent and staff. Highly recommended. We would love to come back.

Vince is a very generous and knowledgeable host as well as a wonderful cook. On arrival we were welcomed with a lovely bottle of sparkling wine from the region and the library had complimentary port from the neighbouring farm Allesverloren. Each room had a coffee station equipped with a Nespresso machine, perfect for coffee lovers. A generous breakfast in the morning included mushrooms cooked in white wine. Even if all the rooms are fully booked, it feels like you are the only ones there. Excellent location, as you can easily explore the Swartland and Riebeeck valley from here, just lie next to the pool or ideally stay long enough to enjoy both. Will definitely be returning for another visit! (booked through Discovery Vitality).

Old-fashioned charm, picturesque setting, and hospitality deluxe. Everything, from the comfortable bedrooms, the elegant decor doing justice to the old manor's heritage, to the warm reception, the stunning gardens with a crystal clear pool deserves applause. It's definitely worth a place on your bucket list.

We loved the old world charm. Having a wood burn oven fire when arriving from the cold, was lovely. Breakfast was superb, a real five-star experience! Our host was friendly and gave good advice on places to dine.

I first saw the Merindol manor when I attended the French Long table dinner in June. I fell inlove . I decided to return for a solo night stay on Sunday the 7th of August to unwind. A solo trip for 1 day became, 2 nights stay. I enjoyed the breakfast spread, the occasional offers of refreshments of coffee and tea while I work remotely. The host and owner will make sure that you return to the manor, over and over again. And then the cutest puppy will also show you some love. If you decide for a winter get away, worry not, the fireplaces are always glowing. 🙌🏾

I booked a one-night retreat with Paige (@healers.soul) at Merindol Manor and decided to book a room for the previous night as well, and I am so glad I did! Stunning old house, beautifully renovated. Large comfortable rooms and huge luxurious bathrooms (and I was welcomed with a complimentary bottle of wine to enjoy in the beautiful copper bath!). The guesthouse was perfect for a winter stay - fireplace in the kitchen/lounge area, electric blankets and heaters in the rooms. O would love to go back in summer to make use of the pool too! Vincent and his staff are extremely welcoming and helpful. Breakfasts were delicious, as were the lunch and dinner that were included in the retreat. What a special place - HIGHLY recommended.
