Merindol Manor is one of the oldest heritage homes in the picturesque wine and olive producing Riebeek Valley in the heart of the Swartland, about an hour’s drive from Cape Town in South Africa. Once a stately family home, now a lovingly restored boutique guesthouse, Merindol Manor has landscaped gardens, its own olive grove and freshly-picked fruit and vegetables from its bountiful gardens. Breakfast eggs are collected from the fluffy hens each morning. The four spacious double rooms have crisp white linen and en-suite facilities. Each room has a mountain, pool or garden view. There is WiFi throughout and the Manor’s Littlest Library is lovingly stocked with both French and South African literature, including comic books for small people. Your hands-on host at Merindol Manor is the affable Vincent. After 17 years in the banking world of Geneva, London and Luxembourg, he founded a tourism business in his homeland of Belgium. Vince moved to South Africa in 2016 and loves to share his passion for travel, cycling, good food and wine with his guests. Riebeek Valley is in the wine-producing Swartland – a region known for its world-class Shiraz and award-winning Chenin wines. The valley is also home to a host of independent olive oil producers. The luxury guesthouse is the perfect hub to explore the surrounding regions such as the quaint fishing village of Paternoster on the West Coast which is a 45 minutes drive away, the lush winelands of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, also 45 minutes away and then the rugged Cederberg mountains which is an hour’s drive away. And then it’s only an hour to the city of Cape Town and the V&A Waterfront for the bustling city experience. Return at the end of the day to the peaceful Manor an authentic Swiss fondue prepared by Vince. Merindol is the place to relax, explore the local restaurants and wineries and enjoy a peaceful time in the scenic countryside.

Detailed Reviews
We spent three fabulous days at Merindol Manor, enjoying the wonderful garden, the views from the veranda and the swimming pool. Everyday started with a breakfast that included only the freshest ingredients and products from farms nearby. The day‘s end saw us in the library with a complimentary port.

Vince is a very generous and knowledgeable host as well as a wonderful cook. On arrival we were welcomed with a lovely bottle of sparkling wine from the region and the library had complimentary port from the neighbouring farm Allesverloren. Each room had a coffee station equipped with a Nespresso machine, perfect for coffee lovers. A generous breakfast in the morning included mushrooms cooked in white wine. Even if all the rooms are fully booked, it feels like you are the only ones there. Excellent location, as you can easily explore the Swartland and Riebeeck valley from here, just lie next to the pool or ideally stay long enough to enjoy both. Will definitely be returning for another visit! (booked through Discovery Vitality).

2 years since we were last there but delighted that this stay was as good as we previously experienced. Vincent hosted us with great attention, to the point of serving individually cooked breakfast. Merindol Manor is a wonderful early 20th century house exuding the character of that time. wonderful garden and views, Kasteelberg to the back of the property. Reebeck West has developed some new business during the pandemic and there are good eateries there as well as in neighbouring Reebeck Kasteel. We will visit again!

+1
I spent one night in Merindol Manor in the first week of December 2023, and I can say without a shadow of a doubt that I will be back. Firstly - the house and grounds are gorgeous, with the period features carefully juxtaposed with modern touches like power inverter (to counteract the notorious SA loadshedding), fast & reliable wifi, and Nespresso coffee machines in each room. When I arrived I was the only guest so Vincent allowed me the pick of the rooms. My suite (Chenin) was huge, with impressive views over the immaculate gardens, with a feature 4 poster bed and gigantic ensuite bathroom. Bed was comfortable and luxurious - just what I needed after a long haul flight. The next morning, I had a delicious breakfast served out on the "stoep" (patio) and ate while the birds sang in the flowering jacaranda trees in the garden.
The owner and host (Vincent) was friendly, attentive and made sure I felt right at home. When he saw I was travelling along, he even kindly invited me to join him for dinner that night, but I had already made plans to meet some friends and family at a local restaurant.
All in all, I am so pleased I chose to stay here. I'm already planning my next trip back in 2024.

I booked a one-night retreat with Paige (@healers.soul) at Merindol Manor and decided to book a room for the previous night as well, and I am so glad I did! Stunning old house, beautifully renovated. Large comfortable rooms and huge luxurious bathrooms (and I was welcomed with a complimentary bottle of wine to enjoy in the beautiful copper bath!). The guesthouse was perfect for a winter stay - fireplace in the kitchen/lounge area, electric blankets and heaters in the rooms. O would love to go back in summer to make use of the pool too! Vincent and his staff are extremely welcoming and helpful. Breakfasts were delicious, as were the lunch and dinner that were included in the retreat. What a special place - HIGHLY recommended.

We had a wonderful retreat at the Merindol Manor. The property has so much atmosphere and character, it is impossible not to relax and be transported into a different world. The breakfast was an absolute treat!! Full house with everything from home-made yogurt, granola, bread and authentic Belgian waffles to eggs, bacon and fried tomato.
So lovely - would definitely be back soon!

Enjoyed a night at the Manor in Riebeeck West, also had a fantastic meal at The Barn nearby. But the Manor house was fantastic! Clean, tidy and warm! The host was very welcoming and charming.
Had an awesome brekie in the morning with homemade bread, banana bread, honey, jam, muesli and great coffee 👍🏻👍🏻

As others have said , one is torn between recommending this beautiful B and B and keeping it a secret. The property has been faithfully renovated to its full Victorian splendor. The large garden ( with jacarandas in full bloom when we were there), pool and wrap around shaded balcony offer a number of alternatives for relaxing... (though there are great hikes, drives , wine farms and really good dining options in and around the town)
Breakfast was a big treat with freshly baked macaroons, iced watermelon juice and excellent coffee. Really comfortable bed and large bathroom. We loved the comfy unfussy lounge with its range of books, music and videos in French and English !
Strongly recommended
Merci Nat

Beautifully restored and well furnished house from 1904 with lovely veranda and gardens. Clean, comfortable rooms. Well stocked with water, tea, coffee, rusks, fruit and even Allesveloren port in the library. Superb quality breakfast spread, with each delicious item well selected by the helpful French host, Vincent. Includes freshly make juices, delicious bread, cheese and cold meats, very fresh fruit salad & yoghurt plus a full cooked breakfast and real coffee.
Excellent value for money and a top choice if you are visiting Riebeck Kasteel / Ribebeck West.
