There is a hidden jewel in the middle of the sleepy little dorp of Waterval Boven which is a convenient 2½ hours from the Paul Kruger Gate. A wonderful b & b whose hands-on owner, Terry, has created a welcoming respite to a long day’s journey to the Kruger Park. One is greeted by an enthusiastic and entertaining Manager, Martin, who also doubles up as the resident chef. The rooms are well appointed and spacious and boast king size beds, tea and coffee facilities and a large flat screen TV with a decent DSTV bouquet. Dinner, and full English breakfasts are served in a delightful dining room and there is a full English pub for pre-dinner drinks and their famous post-dinner Irish coffees. Do yourself a favour, try the Shamrock Arms just once – like us, you will come back time and time again.

My husband had booked a long weekend away for my birthday, to the Shamrock Arms Guest Lodge. Unbeknown to me, my daughter had liaised with management
and advised them of the occasion. We were greeted in the drive way by the avuncular and learned Terry, who accompanied us to our room. To my surprise there were fresh flowers from the garden, chocolate and a welcoming glass of sherry waiting for us!
Later, we joined Terry, Sue and Sharon in the well stocked bar. We thoroughly enjoyed their company and the roaring log fire. They also arranged an evening meal especially for us, set up in the pretty dining room, and then so, to bed. Beautiful crisp white sheets , electric blanket and immense bed. Breakfast was delicious, with an array of cereals, fruit, fish and full English. On our return that evening, Terry arrived at the room with a platter of fresh assorted sandwiches, most welcome! It is without hesitation we recommend The Shamrock, the friendliness, attention and detail were impeccable. Thank you once again, Rob and Mary Scott.

What a great discovery! Shamrock Arms is a little gem in the rough. Sue, Belinda
and their team welcomed us and made us feel at home during our 2 day stay. The rooms are big and spacious. The bed and pillows were comfortable and the shower was a welcome relief after we ran our marathon. The catering was absolutely outstanding and attention was given to our dietary requests. A hearty breakfast just hit the spot the day of our departure. Shamrock Arms is definitely value for money and the bar prices are very reasonable. The front garden of the property is well kept and immediately gives you peace and calm after the trip from Johannesburg. Thanks Sue and your staff for your hospitality we can’t wait to see you next year again.

This is a historic building but the rooms have been modernised to a good standard.
There is a quaint pub for residents only and it was the only place to eat on the Sunday we were there. The meal of trout was very good if somewhat over generous. The owner, Terry, was a genial host and it was an excellent stopover for us. We would stay again if it were on our travel route.

Definitely recommended. Waterval Boven makes a perfect stop-over between Gauteng and the tourist attractions of eastern Mpumalanga (we were on our way back from the Blyde River Canyon), and this is the perfect base during such a stop-over. Rooms were lovely, spacious and well equipped, dinner and breakfast were great, and the hosts were fantastic. We had a lovely stroll around Waterval Boven towards sunset and also stopped to see the spectacular waterfall to which the town-name refers, on our way back to Johannesburg. We hope to call again.

We spent one night at the Shamrock Arms as a stopover on our way to Kruger National Park. We were greeted warmly by the hosts Terry and Belinda. We love historic buildings so we appreciated the pretty stone inn and beautiful gardens. We had made a dinner and breakfast reservation. Both were delicious and plentiful. Our room was comfortable and we slept well after a LONG flight from the USA. The hosts shared maps and information with us which were very helpful for the rest of our trip. We would definitely recommend the Shamrock to other travelers.

Such a charming little guest lodge! It was a most welcome and pleasant experience for us. We decided to break the drive from JNB to KNP and chose the Shamrock. Sue and Belinda gave us a warm welcome and even though the power had failed, we were served a delicious dinner and the beer was cold too! After a long flight, the bed was nothing less than heaven.
Terry was a wonderful host answering our many questions about his beautiful country. We definitely will plan to stop here gain on our way back to Jo’berg. Thanks to all of you for the ‘soft landing'.

I stayed at the Shamrock Arms with my 2 grand children on the way to the Kruger National Park. I received a warm welcome from the very charming host. The room was lovely and we had a comfortable sleep over. A lovely breakfast was served the next morning. Very generous. The host provided us with excellent advice on the local attractions. I cannot fault the experience it was so warm and friendly. Would stay again in a heartbeat.

The hosts - Sue, Terry and Martin made a point of meeting and greeting our group. We were shown to our pleasant rooms and then served a delicious supper after a social time in the pub. Breakfast also exceeded our expectations!
