Stunning place, friendly and service-minded staff and excellent rangers/tracers for the safari. The lodge provides a high-end experience. The game park has all you can dream of. "The big five" plus loads of other animals. Not crowded as you might experience other game parks.

We would love to come back to Amakhosi.

Our family had the great pleasure of spending this last weekend at the beautiful Amakhosi Game Lodge in Pongola. It is only the second time we have visited, but definitely will not be our last.

I completed the in-room questionnaire before we left, but there was nowhere near enough space to compliment all and everything we so enjoyed.

Unfortunately I cannot remember all the names of the wonderful staff we had the privilege of dealing with, but each and every one of them made a lasting impression on us all. They all went out of their way to make our stay so enjoyable, comfortable and memorable.

I did not personally make the reservation, my husband did, but we were so pleased with the manner in which Sonja accommodated our last minute reservation and requests.

The guard at the security hut was so polite and helpful, the ladies who met us when we arrived were most pleasant, friendly and welcoming, and continued to be just that each and every time we returned from a game drive.

The staff at the morning and evening meals always had a smile on their faces and were so efficient. The chefs and kitchen staff were world class. The meals were so delicious and enjoyed by all. They went the extra mile to accommodate my mom-in-law, who my husband had forgotten to mention, was a vegetarian !

The tall young lady at reception also went the extra mile by arranging for millers to be purchased on Saturday morning, they are my husband’s choice of beer, which you did not have, thank you so much.

The villa is lovely and was so beautifully maintained and cleaned, thank you to the cleaning staff.

Sibusiso delivered drinks to us on Saturday afternoon and also went the extra mile for us. My son Wesley, had been desperate to see Thula, your new addition to the family since Milas passed away. Sibusiso kindly took Gogo and Wesley back to the lodge with him, to see if Thula was there and then brought them back to the villa. Greatly appreciated.

Simone is an exceptional ranger with great knowledge of the bush and its wild life. Mandla is a great tracker and steered us in the direction of fabulous sightings. A very big thank you to them both for incredible game drives which are always our favourite.

Gogo and I enjoyed a lovely bush walk, thank you to both rangers.

Saturday evenings surprise was most entertaining. An extremely talented group of young people put on the most amazing traditional show. We were so surprised at how many wonderful staff are behind the scenes.

A very BIG THANK YOU to each and every one. We are looking so forward to visiting this beautiful piece of heaven again soon.

Warm Regards
Marshall Family

Wonderful review and we thank you for taking the time to post it, we really do appreciate it and so does the entire team. We are so pleased that your second visit was a memorable one and that you are thinking of coming back. The staff all love their work and it is so nice to hear that our guests appreciate the extra mile. It was sad that Milas passed away but her legacy lives on in Thula and her offsprings, although they are not popular with the Chef, as these adorable warthogs, decided to inspect the high tea and broke all the glass cloches. Thank you on the comments on our tracking team and rest of the staff and a copy of this has been sent on to our owners for their action. We look forward to the whole family visiting again. Best wishes the Amakhosi Team

We had a truly amazing time at Amakoshi Safari Lodge. Thanks to all at the lodge who made it such a memorable visit. All was perfect, from arrival to departure. Simone and Mandler, our guide and tracker, showed and explained all we could ever hope for, must be the most beautiful animals and scenery in South Africa. Accommodation and the rest of the staff of the same high standard - Thank you all at Amakoshi!

We had the pleasure of spending 3 nights here at the beginning of August 2013 and I must say - If you want to be treated like royalty - this is the place to go!
The lodge is truly awesome. From our welcome and check-in, Faith made us feel right at home. Our accommodation was superb with a huge deck complete with a hammock and a plunge pool overlooking the river.
Our ranger, Nick and tracker, Zak were amazing at finding the animals for us on our game drives. Apart from all the animals we saw, we were treated to some exceptional sightings and close encounters with 4 out of the Big 5 (the leopard was unfortunately nowhere to be seen). Nick gave us an excellent lesson in star-gazing one evening and the next day Nick and Zak took us on a guided walk which was a thrilling experience.
The food is really fantastic, and Lauren, the resident chef, served us 5 star meals fit for kings! You will eat so well and between brunch, high tea and dinner, if you go hungry, it will be your own fault!
All the staff were so warm and friendly and the whole experience was so perfect and memorable, we can highly recommend staying here.
Ngiyabonga kakhulu!

What a fantastic experience. Can only agree with all the other excellent reviews which sum up what Amakhosi is all about. We came away after 3 days feeling we had enjoyed every moment we had been there. The staff are really special, they are so warm and welcoming, nothing is too much trouble and they go out of their way to go the extra mile. e.g. as we left the car had been cleaned and we were provided with a packed lunch for the journey. The lodges are beautiful and extremely comfortable. We were lucky to be upgraded to the honeymoon suite which was an extra treat. The setting is amazing, we saw lots of wildlife from our deck and also from the dining area. The food is plentiful (in fact that would be our only complaint, too much!!) and absolutely delicious. The highlight though were the game drives. What we saw exceeded all our expectations. Phillip and Jeremy were superb. Phillip is an expert on birds. He could spot and hear things which were far in the distance. During our 3 days we were joined by a couple who had spent over a week in Kruger but they saw more at Amkhosi. That's another good point about this game lodge, they don't crowd the vehicles and you very rarely see another vehicle whilst out on the drives. There were only ever 4 of us on each drive and sometime we were out for nearly 4 hours at a time if there were interesting things to look at (that was most of the time). Writing this review is making me yearn to be back at Amkhosi.

I never have better experience yet! It was gorgeous from first moment (landing in soiled runway with small privat plane). Hotel - 7 separately accommodated chalets plus one absolutely separated - it is amazing kind of spending time in bush. In the middle of bush! Excellent service in restaurant (at the end of the day they is maximum 20 guests), very good meal, gerat equipments. But, most important was a safari game two times per day. Big FIVE within ones grasp, cheetah very close under terrace of house etc.. Not words, it is necessary to experience its! Amazing!!!

Apart from the fact that Pongola is so incredibly scenic and beautiful this Lodge is out of this world.
Incredible hosts - Sonja and Alwyn. The food is sublime - probably the best food eaten in any game lodge in South Africa. Special mention of Jerry(Jeremy) the tracker and at the Lodge - Lindo.. these are gems and make the experience incredible.. I am running out of superlatives... the Boma experience and the most authentic Zulu dancing in the country.
There were guests on their 8th stay and some on their second stay - they must be doing something right. Incredible accommodation and a beautiful gym.
Sorry guys - I WILL BE BACK!

We stayed 3 memorable nights at Amakhosi. Everything about Amakhosi was amazing. The service, the rooms, the safari drives, the food, the Braii, the spa, the gym, EVERYTHING! I could not talk more about how phenomenal the experience was. The food was also a highlight, the chef does such a great job with a 4 course dinner each night. The wine list is also great.
We saw lions, lion cubs, zebra, hippo, rhino, elephant.
We would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a small intimate safari!

This was my first experience of going on safari. And what an incredible time we had full of excitement, fun and many amazing sightings of all sorts of animals and birds and excellent luxurious accommodation. Myself and three single friends are so grateful to our Ranger/ Guide called Gary and his Tracker, King. It was fabulous that it was just the four of us in the jeep. I was very grateful for the blanket and hot water bottle in the mornings as well as the scenic refreshment breaks. Their knowledge and intuition treated us to many exciting and memorable experiences within God's creation. And Gary's astronomy talks were fascinating and awe inspiring! He also took us out walking in the bush during the day. I didn't know learning about animal pooh and paw prints could be so interesting! We learnt so much and we have some stunning photographs. Returning to base after each trip was wonderful as the staff looked after us incredibly well. The chalets are luxurious and the new bathrooms are wonderful. We loved the hammocks on the balconies! The two chefs called Naughty and Rejoice produced some mouth watering banquets. Thank you to all the staff for making my first safari unforgettable!
