On the recommendation of friends we stayed at Amakhosi for four nights in August, to include my birthday.

What an amazing time we had. The staff excelled themselves and it is difficult to single out any one person they were all so friendly and professional. The food was excellent and my food sensitivities were catered for discreetly and with no problem. Our table was set out each time on the deck overlooking the river, in the evening by candlelight. So romantic... Our room was spacious, clean and very comfortable with an adjacent sitting area which we learned could accommodate a third person/child. A fridge, crockery, kettle together with tea and coffee completed the spoil. The large bathroom had a walk-in shower, bath and double wash basins with plenty of towels and toiletries. Cooled drinking water was always available in the main dining area where we could fill our Amakhosi bottles on the way out to a game drive.

We treated ourselves to a full body massage and hot stone massage which were great. The whole spa set up was beautiful and spacious with its own pool and lounging area. We were kept company by the many resident nyala and warthog.

As we were the only guests due to Covid restrictions but were able to travel from the Durban area, we had a large Landrover to ourselves and were able to set the times for our twice-daily game drives. We have been to many game reserves over the years but have to say that Philip the ranger and Jeremy the tracker were in a class of their own. Their knowledge was phenomenal and their sense of humour much appreciated. They went out of their way to find the Big Five and the lesser seen birds, and we loved the young orphaned giraffe who came out of the bush to greet us. Unfortunately the leopard evaded us but made his unseen presence known over dinner and into the night with his coughing from the other side of the river.

All in all a wonderful stay and we can only hope to return in the not too distant future. Thank you.

Quite brilliant in every respect whatsoever. We stayed three nights in a honeymoon suite ( a 4 minute walk from the main lodge) and it was faultless: very spacious, stylish, private, beautifully furnished, very well equipped and quiet. The lodge itself was marvellously positioned overlooking a river, the food was quite amazing in content, variety and presentation (totally five-star), the staff ~ without exception ~ were cheerful, efficient, fun an very well trained. This place oozed good management, attention to detail, thorough training that instilled confidence and relaxed charm in everybody.

Our guide, King , and his spotter, Zac, were perfect: knowledgeable, patient, considerate, lucid, humorous and so keen to tell us about not just the big five, but the birds, the flora and all animals of all sorts. We indeed saw all the big five in our three day stay, even the elusive leopard.

We have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending this lodge: you will be treated like royalty with grace and efficiently, you will eat and sleep very well, you will love the game drives and you will get very good value for every penny you spend. It is an exemplar to all other lodges on how to get it right in every single detail..

A great bush experience with highly skilled Ranger Phillip and Tracker Zakhele who won us over when finding stunning animal sightings and their friendly personalities. The highlight of this trip is definitely viewing with these gentlemen who really have a passion for what they do and persevered until they tracked the animals. The thrilling heart-racing experience was definitely when they got out the vehicle to track prints and a lioness menacingly roared and charged 😳... they handled it so well and Phillip had a face-off with her as she slunked away. Both of them have a great inherent understanding of the animals and behaviour so that we always feel safe and learn so much from them. We'll done Phillip and Zakhele!

The accommodation is beautiful and spacious so that you're always experiencing a private getaway. It is well kept and truly 5 star lodging. The geckos can be messy at night and the bugs out in the bush are in swarms but it's expected in the bush so we just kept our items closed.

Despite us having dietary restrictions, the dining was mostly good for us and having Lindo around from day 2 really ensured that we were truly accommodated for from then on. I only give this a 4/5 rating as two of us struggled on day 1 with food options and it didn't appear as accommodating to our dietary needs. Fortunately Lindo came through on Day 2 and he helped us.

The staff are helpful and attentive but special mention again is Lindo who goes above and beyond in his role. The booking process with Marilyn is so smooth and easy.

I'd recommend this lodge if you're looking for exceptional game viewing.

From the moment we called the lodge to book to the moment we drove out the gate we were taken care of fully with personal and kind service. Every staff member seems to be personally invested in the guests comfort and experience!
Amakhozi has restored our faith in boutique game lodges. Small and intimate where you feel you are among old acquaintances and friends.
Game drives produced 4 of the big 5… elusive leopard did now join in.
Food and accommodation is excellent whilst the whole Safari experience is a pleasure…. Even the spa. (we are not really spa people)
Thank you to the whole team (yes even the gate guard was a pleasure to deal with) for a great experience - you will surely see us again… and again.
Value for money!

Amazing, Incredible, Wonderful! We spent 3 nights here and it was not enough- we wanted to stay longer. We were so sad to leave. The lodge and our river suites were beautiful. We enjoyed sitting on the porch and enjoying the natural beauty. The suite is spacious and the beds heated,

The food was incredible. We had coffee, juice and cookies before the morning game drive. Then we stopped during the drive for coffee and mini muffins at an incredible location. After the game drive we had part continental breakfast buffet with a hot breakfast choice. A 2 pm high tea was followed by the afternoon game drive. Also with a cocktail stop if desired. Dinner after the game drive at 715. We had lamb chops, filet of beef and Kingklip fish entrees that were all so delicious. Cocktails were so reasonable but we were greeted on return from safari with a special cocktail. The tables for dinner were so romantic. We ate most meals alfresco.

What we came for- the game drives, incredible. The reserve is green, lush and beautiful. We saw the big 5 on our 6 game drives. Our guide Pierre and tracker Mandel were so good. Pierre knew so much about the animals and the plants and trees. He could identify birds by their shapes and calls my friend and I were with another couple on the drives and they were so nice that they added to our experience. We saw so many animals including zebras, giraffes, lions, rhinos, buffalos, nyala, warthogs, kudo, leopard, impala, wildebeest and more and were surrounded by elephants. Our fellow guests also loved the lodge and compared it above other safari experiences. We saw amazing sunrises, sunsets and stars.

On leaving the staff came out and waved goodbye. Everyone was so friendly, you felt like you were part of family. I would come back here in a heartbeat and could not recommend it enough.

From arrival just in time for lunch, to our departure after a three night stay, we were made to feel like part of the family and were looked after like royalty. All staff members were always smiling and were friendly, "genuine" and accommodating which is not always easy to find.
In particular we would like to thank King our ranger and Arrows our spotter who made our 6 game drives the best we have ever experienced, we have previously been on game drives in Kenya and South Africa but these were simply outstanding! King and Arrows were funny, relaxed and chatty and King was very knowledgeable and able to answer all of our questions. On our first drive we were lucky enough to see 4 out of the big 5 (including a leopard!) By the end of our 6 game drives we had even seen another leopard, this time right outside the lodge on a rock by the river. We also saw a huge alligator down by the river whilst eating breakfast one morning.
Other staff members that stood out for us and we would like to personally thank were Zinhle, the assistant manager (wicked sense of humour!), and Sya and Nhlanda who made our meal times even more enjoyable with their fantastic service and friendliness. I would also like to thank Nhlanda who made my close encounter with the friendly giraffe who visited one evening before dinner, an experience that I will never forget and will treasure forever.
Our lodge overlooking the river was fantastic, very luxurious with a very comfy bed and fantastic views. It was an easy minute's walk to the main bar/dining area which was lovely and had a nice homely feel to it. All food during our stay was of an exceptional quality and was always plentiful and beautifully presented.
We didn't have any treatments at the spa but did make use of the swimming pool there which overlooks the river and was very relaxing.
A massive thank you to you all at Amakhosi for making our stay/experience the best we have ever experienced, it was truly magical, please don't change a thing!

We had the most outstanding experience at Amakhosi Safari Lodge.

Every single staff member went out of their way to personally make us feel welcome and comfortable.

The River Suite was a piece of paradise, I loved the attention to detail.

The food was outstanding.

We had the most life-changing experience on our game drives... Our Ranger, Ralden, and our Tracker, Mandla, were an exceptional team... our highlight was when they spotted a mother cheetah on the hunt! They predicted her behavior SO accurately that they managed to set us up to witness the most breath-taking event of the cheetah taking down an Kudu... and to top it off, she called her 5 cubs to feast.

An experience we will never forget!

We will DEFINITELY be back!

Incredible weekend spent at Amakhosi. The staff were extremely professional, friendly and accommodating and our ranger Pierre and spotter Mandla were fantastic in finding us game and spotting over 50 new birds for us and being so passionate to take us out, even in the drizzle. The food was out of this world and the beds were dangerously comfortable. The reserve is very well looked after and the animals look healthy.
Thank you Amakhosi - 11/10 stars. See you soon!
