My girlfriend and I visited wavecrest hotel and spa it was our first time and I must say that we got value for money in all aspects from arrival till we left. We stayed a week in a sea facing room " sea gull room" has the best view. So if u wanna tranqulity, fun vibes and freshness of nature wavecrest hotel and spa is the place to visit...

This is a typical wild coast hotel with very special differences. The staff is always ready to give you the best friendly service. The location is such that you can see the ocean, estuary and river mouth. The spa is decorated beautifully and the massages are done well. The food is great and the rooms are practical and comfortable...all round it was 4 days of blissful rest.

Five stars and more for the location and the view of the estuaries and seashore, a truly stunning place.
Five stars for the welcome from the reception staff.
But sadly nil points for the food which was the worst we have had in South Africa. I realise it must be difficult to attract good staff this far off the beaten track but the steak was inedible, the sauce came out of a packet and the vegetables were well over cooked. Breakfast was not much better with rubbery scrambled egg and soggy toast. If you put toast in a hot plate it will get soggy. Why not just let people make their own toast?
The bar staff were also surly and demotivated.
This place could be so good. The new accommodation looks lovely.

We stopped at the hotel for a meal after a long day outdoors. Despite booking for 7 people 2 weeks prior we were not made welcome. The staff clearly did not want any guests and were not welcoming or friendly.

the dinner we had was one of the worst of my life. Soup out of a packet. industrial, overcooked chicken with glutenous instant gravy and frozen vegetables barely defrosted. Desert was allegedly lemon tart but also industrial frozen and tasteless.
coffee was cheap powered instant.

the whole party felt ill the next day.

Booked 2 nights for clients of ours, as a stop on a self-flying safari.
Then it rained a lot and their runway wasn't usable and access via road also wasn't possible. So our clients actually couldn't get there.
As clients were international and not sure if they will ever come back to the area, we asked for a refund.
Hotel has been ghosting us for 6 weeks, despite several email requesting the refund.
Weather is nobodies fault, but not refunding after it's not possible to get there and not answering to emails is simply unacceptable and poor management.
We won't book there again, might be a nice place but if anything goes wrong, your payment is simply gone.

Pros:
* Free to play pool and darts games and free to use kayaks.
* Beautiful location and seaview from rooms.
* Nice cocktails using fresh fruit.
* Friendly staff.

Cons:

* Upon arrival there was no one at reception. The security guard at the resort entrance took us to the bar. We weren't given any information. When we did meet the manager we were told to grab some lunch first and she would come to us thereafter which she never did.
* Loadshedding times were not communicated.
* WiFi was not working. There was no signal at all during our stay.
* We stayed in Fish Eagle and were not given a key to lock our room as we were told the previous guest took it. The shower waw terrible, the water sprays out sideways like a mist. There were dead bugs on the bathroom window sil. It was difficult to close the sliding doors for both Fish Eagle and Kingfisher. Rust stains on bedding and towels.
* The food was inconsistent. Hit of miss. Some of it was nice such as the breakfast and dinner bread rolls.

The place is FANTASTIC.The stay, the nature the forests and the birding are all up with the best.We had a really great time and will surely be back in 2 years time again.
I cannot understand that amenities such as Wavecrest and Mazeppa Bay, to name just 2 are only accessible by such wretched roads. These resorts must provide so much revenue to local government and create many jobs, yet access is absolutely dodgy to say the least

On arrival we were escorted by by kayak over to the hotel. What a reception!
Soon after arrival it started raining, so after a nice hot shower, it was off to the pub, where we enjoyed the company of other guests, sitting around the pub with one of the best views I've seen from a pub window. That night a special sea-food dinner was the highlight of the meals we enjoyed duringbour trip.

A coastal gem on the Wild Coast , 65 km from Butterworth (N2), boasting the best and generous meals and the best wine list. Most beautiful views and friendly and hospitable staff. We stayed in the new river chalets ( totally 5 star) and if you expect a rustic and traditional accommodation, then book the rondavels. The gravel road needs an SUV though.

The Hotel needs some TLC but remains a lovely place to relax and drink in the beauty of the Wild Coast. Staff are friendly and helpful. There is a large "gas" fireplace in the lounge for the chilly evenings. Next to the Hotel are some new beautiful accommodation that is really nice with its own swimming pool. The kitchen area for this new accommodation recently burnt down. Suggest you drive a 4X4 as the roads are in a very poor condition. We will certainly return.

Hi there! We've done this exact trip. Majority of the drive is done on the N2 which is well maintained (GREAT views by Great Kei Bridge) - Butterworth is a thriving little town with some pretty big potholes. The road through the town is busy - loads of pedestrians, cars and cattle all trying to do their own thing at the same time so take caution. Shortly after Butterworth, you're going to turn towards Kentani / Centani (right) - this is where the more difficult part comes. Small, narrow, badly maintained road. Look out for cattle, HUGE Potholes, kids and animals - Take it easy, you'll get there. You'll eventually come to a petrol station and will see a sign to Wavecrest beach hotel (to your left) - this leads you to the dirt roads. SLOW AND STEADY! It's quite a distance on these dirt roads - but definitely not hard to navigate or drive when we were there. You don't have to use a 4x4 vehicle to get there, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to hire one if you have the option. Safe Travels and enjoy your stay at Wavecrest - it's one of our absolute favourites! #UBM6
