This was our first visit to NAKO Safari Lodge, as well as Dinokeng Game Reserve.
Hard to believe that this reserve is less than 1hr drive from Johannesburg
The drive from the main road to the lodge was a fantastic start to our holiday with a welcome from the animals, a cheetah, some general game and a few warthogs!
From the moment we arrived to the day we left we were made to feel very special. The lodge is run by Dean (Head Ranger) and his wife, Leansha, who made us feel like family.
Everything about our stay was incredible, the suites were comfortable, spacious and very modern.
The lodge is very intimate and all the staff were so attentive - hospitality was second to none. Our meals were delicious and gourmet. Also a special touch when our kids were afforded the opportunity to make their own Pizza’s in the bush (while jumping in and out of the heated pool).
Truly a place where you can put your feet up and feel like one with nature.

Ps. We had some very welcome Elephants at the Lodge’s waterhole, as well as some great Lion sightings while on drive.

Hi Dean, It was great having you at NAKO Safari Lodge. The sightings on your drive to NAKO is what makes the experience so timeless. We enjoyed making pizza's with the kids and are elated to hear they also had fun. Making unforgettable memories with your family is what we hope all our guests will experience while staying with us. Our waterhole in-front of our swimming pool and main area always tend to provide amazing sightings from warthogs, general game and the Elephants that appeared while you where here. We are looking forward to welcoming you all back in the future!

Our stay at NAKO was fantastic and exceeded all expectations. It's absolutely beautiful and high class. The waterhole in front of the lodge was always exciting as you dont know what is going to come next. At the waterhole we saw Impala, Giraffe, Zebra, warthog and Wildebeest all the time and were lucky to see 3 Rhino come drink one night and a whole elephant herd the next night. The main lodge is modern with a safari chic feel and a great place to rest in the day. The boma overlooks the waterhole and our dinner there was beautiful under the stars and with the lanterns. The beds and cushions are extremely comfortable and the bathroom is modern and clean. The outside shower was great in the heat of the day before safari drive. The food was better than many restaurants and beautifully presented. The wine cellar is small but only contains great wines. The team really do take care of everything. There is a great games room if youre travelling with kids. Dean our guide was extremely knowledgeable and is a trainer of trainers so really knows alot. We saw 10 cheetah on the drive, lion, elephant and rhino on top of all the other game. We cant wait to go back.

We were fortunate enough to visit NAKO Safari Lodge while hosting Miss Universe 2022 during her first ever visit to South Africa. We could not have hoped for a more perfect bush retreat to accommodate her and show off South Africa.

A surprisingly short drive from Johannesburg, NAKO offers a total retreat into the wilderness. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the tranquillity. The accommodation was luxurious and blends seamlessly with its natural surroundings. We had a restful and rejuvenating stay.

One of the lodge's standout features was its incredibly friendly and welcoming staff -every member went above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed our stay. Their genuine warmth added an extra layer of comfort to our safari experience, and made us and our guests feel right at home amidst the wild.

The game sighting was spectacular, with Miss Universe describing the trip to NAKO Safari Lodge as a “bucket-list experience

I was there with the Miss Universe and Miss South Africa team. And wow, what an experience! We were treated like royalty. The staff was so friendly, and the food was delicious. We had a personal chef who wined and dined us from morning until evening! Such a comfortable and calm atmosphere. The place itself is stunning as well—well looked after, tastefully decorated, and very clean. I recommend it to anyone who wants a 5-star break away from their busy life.

I stayed here in early 2024, and what a lovely experience it was. To find a place like NAKO less than an hour away from OR Tambo International, that's a real treat. We visited over a weekend with our family, so it was an escape from the city to see some wildlife and find a little peace. We found lion, elephants, giraffe, buffalo, hippos and much more. If you're looking for a spot to get rid of jetlag, maybe a little short stay after your longer itinerary, or an escape from Gauteng, this is it! I expect great things from NAKO and their dedicated team!
