On Sri Lanka’s southwestern coast you’ll find the fortified city of Galle. It’s also where you’ll find The Postcard Galle. Located above the waters of a beautiful blue lagoon, the hotel offers incomparable views of the Indian Ocean and Gin River. It’s also a stone’s throw from the iconic and well-preserved heritage of centuries old, architecture and colonial neighbourhoods. With all of ten rooms, The Postcard Galle is just the place for some cultural exploration and solitude by the sea. At The Postcard Galle you can. Not just to the sound, but whole, sweeping views of the Indian Ocean. Perfectly private, the hotel’s ten rooms feature high Burmese Teak ceilings, wooden beds and titanium flooring—a homage to the island’s tropical, modernist aesthetic. Perfect for families and friends, the spacious Attic suites house upto four guests and come with a mezzanine floor and a private seating area overlooking the ocean. While the Luxury suites offer unmatched comfort and azure views to be enjoyed from the plunge pool or jacuzzi. Seafood, rice and coconuts are staples of traditional Sinhalese cuisine. Examples of which you’ll find aplenty at The Postcard Galle. But what makes the culinary offering truly special on this island nation is the many cultures that have come to influence it. The best therapy at The Postcard Galle is the sun, sand, and sea. But if you’re looking for a little more, there’s a varied selection of treatments on offer that are perfect for that much-needed rest and reinvigoration. Sri Lanka’s colonial past and its own Sinhalese and Tamilian traditions make it rich for exploration. Galle is a great starting point to explore this cultural mix. Walk its cobblestoned streets and discover gems of local and colonial architecture, eclectic spice markets, and some very hip boutiques and restaurants. For something a little more action-packed, you can also head to the beach town of Mirissa to surf, idle oceanside or meet the town’s most renowned visitor—The Blue Whale.

We needed to to go down to Galle for the weekend and the best decision we made was to stay here for one night. Its pretty easy to get there from Colombo via the highway as its located right on the beachside of the old Galle road just before you enter the Galle town proper. I would personally recommend exiting Baddegama and then driving along the Galle road rather than exiting Pinnaduwa, if you want to go to the hotel directly on arrival. It a great location to be based in if you want to explore Hikkaduwa (20 minutes away) or Galle fort (10 minutes away)

This is located overlooking the lagoon/estuary formed by the Gin ganga as it falls in to the sea. The view is just spectacular! It is truly picture postcard worthy! We absolutely loved the design and decor of the house.

Since we were the only guests there for that day we were offered their premier room. This was a beautifully designed room with a plunge pool opening in to the bathroom. The room and bathroom were spacious, airy and comfortable.

The level of service at this hotel was exceptional. We loved the fact that you could check in and check out at any time. We made full use of that by arriving there at 9.30 for breakfast and leaving after lunch the next day. This really is a great concept which makes your trip much more relaxing than checking in and out at fixed times, so kudos to The Postcard for this brilliant concept.
Mr Nuwan was always extremely attentive and obliging throughout our stay which was much appreciated. The staff stay out of sight to ensure guest privacy but they are only a bell tinkle away if you need them.
Chef Hani is an absolute rockstar when it comes to food. We had a smashing breakfast on arrival and he kindly obliged us with an amazing paella for lunch on request. He offered to surprise us for dinner, which we heartily accepted and we were mind blown again by his creations with a southeast Asian twist. We would go back here just to eat the delicious food again!

Despite being in Galle for business, we had a very relaxing stay. Absolutely recommend this gem of a place!

I was really looking forward to this visit, and it definitely did not disappoint! From an amazing facility, to the staff, the Postcard was the perfect place to escape for a few days. I appreciate the level of customization available with regards to services, and no fixed timings for meals, but instead being able to meet with the chef, discuss what you may want throughout the day, and they will go out and source the ingredients/produce to prepare. It is a very small property in terms of number of rooms, so you will never feel like you are caught up in a bustling hotel but instead, your own private villa.

One year ago today, we checked into the Postcard hotel in Galle, Sri Lanka. We were the only guests to make it that day because the world had begun to shut down because of the start of the global pandemic.
We were welcomed to the Postcard and put at our ease immediately. Our room was stunning and the views all around made for a tranquil feeling, one of real luxury.
The manager Ranjan was so accommodating and made sure we had the best experience, although we couldn't do everything the Postcard normally has to offer (spa facilities weren't available and the local area was closing).
We were on our honeymoon and we were made to feel extremely special. We drank King coconuts every day, had beers by the pool, drinks on the terrace as the sun set in the middle of a thunderstorm. Ranjan organised for a tuk tuk to take us into Galle to see the cricket ground, the fort and see life in the town. We loved every minute.
Chef Hani offered us options for our meals the following day. Everything we ate was exquisite and served to perfection. From catering to my delicate tummy on one day, a full red snapper and Mexican fajitas in the cinema room on our last night.
We even try to recreate one recipe at home. It's a Middle Eastern dish, shaksouka, but to us will always be a 'Hani breakfast'!
Ranjan even got up at 3.30am to wish us a safe flight home, having organised a driver to take us to Colombo airport. Our original flight had been cancelled, so everything was last minute. We could not have been in safer hands.
The Postcard is a truly amazing experience. Once in a lifetime and one we never forget!
A whole year later and we can remember it so well. Thank you.
Fergal and Sue xx

We really loved our stay here. It’s a beautiful hotel, with wonderful and friendly staff.
We had some suggestions for the GM, Ranjan Rai, on how to improve small things at the hotel and he was incredibly responsive to all ideas, and was already aware and fixing of some of them (for example, more sun lounge chairs, robes in the room, we had I think the largest room and the furniture placement was odd, impractical and only one place to sit. The design team needs to take another look at the flow of the room) . Ranjan was a great manager steering the hotel out of Covid though. I’m sure it was a huge task.
Considering they had just reopened a month before after being shut for Covid, everything was running very well. The chef and rest of the team were the loveliest people as well. We enjoyed seeing them everyday.
The location is very convenient to get to Galle fort, about 10 min.
We would definitely recommend this place to others who don’t want to stay on the busy streets of Galle.

This Property is a Bucket List Item for sure !!
Made the entire trip to galle wortrhwhile.
Well Located, Serene. Great Hardware. Very Colonial. Takes you back to a different Era.
Rooms are well appointed and amazing. Must do the Sea View Suite. Spacious, Separate Day Bed on a Balcony, large washroom with a Jaccuzi !
Many places to sit out and enjoy the weather. Be it the running Verandah's, balconies or the deck by the backwater.
This is a property where you actually kick up your feet and Relaaaaxxx !!

But what makes it great is the team.
Satvik the manager was absolutely amazing. Very Personal and ensures that you have just about everything you want. The entire team is so friendly. Ajith is just amazing, must mention Randika who just took care of our meals. Sithari who looks after Housekeeping must be mentioned, She was an Interntional level, award winning Boxer, Beat That ! The kitchen team is phenomenal and had us floored with different types of Dishes whether Local or International.

The Chauffer for the pick up was extremely helpful, Madu and very polite and informative.
The Spa services were just excellent

We would go back to Galle just for this property. You get more than what you are promised. The personal concept is beyond Butlering for sure.

My partner, families and I stayed at this beautiful property for 2 nights and loved the experience. The staff were extremely welcoming and accomodating to our needs. Being recently married, Ranjan (the property manager) surprised us with a celebration cake in the garden. We also received a complementary room upgrade. We had one of the best family holidays in Sri Lanka at this hotel. It is a great location, 10 minutes from Galle Fort and plenty to do in-house with a pool and relaxing views. The rooms were in great condition with a few lounge areas to enjoy with a larger group. We'll definitely be back!

This is a small hotel but built and run with a lot of care, understanding and great staff. It's almost like a home away from home.

Their all day breakfast feature is something I have craved in hotels....and they heard me. Rooms are tastefully done and staff is very friendly and always avaliable for help. Food at the hotel was top notch and is a mix of local specialities as well as regulars. We were travelling with kids and the hotel staff took extra care to make sure all our kids needs were met.

Also a shout out to Bharatvir the Hotel Manager who was exemplary . Bharat thanks for the memories and our daughter will remember the little turtle forever

This establishment has taken another step in hospitality. No check in times - no check out times. Roam around the property and sit anywhere. Whenever service is required you ring a little bell and someone magically appears. Rooms are great, interior design great. Food outstanding with an excellent chef who suggests what you can eat and together you design your own dishes. It’s more expensive than your normal hotel but the experience and service is well worth it. I’ll be back.

My wife and I stayed at the hotel in early February 2024 for a week. The service at Postcard is phenomenal: the staff is always very polite and friendly, and the management is very helpful. I would like to extend a special thanks to Bharatvi, Tuhin, and Ajith, who went above and beyond to make our stay as comfortable as possible. We received so many beaches, tourist spots, and restaurants recommendations. They also always offered to call a tuk-tuk or taxi to take us wherever we wanted. Since Uber works relatively well in Sri Lanka, we almost always opted to call a tuk-tuk or taxi ourselves. We only arranged airport transfers through the hotel upon arrival and departure, which went smoothly.

The hotel overlooks a lake and a beach. However, it is not advisable to swim in the lake, and unfortunately, the hotel does not offer any activities such as kayaking or stand-up paddle. Furthermore, the beach is too far from the hotel and not worth visiting, as it is dirty, small, and the rough sea keeps swimmers away. On the other hand, the hotel has a nice pool to lounge by, but does not have enough sun loungers: only 3, when there should be at least 4 given the hotel's capacity.

My suggestion to the hotel is to purchase (at least) two kayaks so that guests can better enjoy the lake, as well as an extra sun lounger for the pool area.
