As a returning guest it was nice to see some additions were made since we last came. Previously we stayed in a three sleeper room that formed part of the post office block. After the long road we had been on it was comfortable and the hosts were very pleasant and accommodating with regards to all our questions and queries. This area now has a semi-communal kitchen area for guests staying here. This time round we booked The House of Grace, a six sleeper. We were informed, upon arrival and check-in, that the WiFi in this particular house was sketchy at best. The host kindly told us that if we struggled to connect, there were tables set up closer to the reception that we could use without hassle. The other thing she mentioned was the pull lights may need an extra tug or two before the light goes on. The house itself was comfortable with all the necessary amenities. The main entrance leads straight into the kitchen and dining room. While it may not be comfortable for everyone, the two single beds were set up in the kitchen/dining area. Due to loadshedding a single plate gas stove and gas tank was provided as well as an electric stove and oven. There is a built-in fireplace and an electric heater if it got cold. The kitchen led out to an enclosed patio with a braai area, outdoor seating and a washing line. From the "sleeping quarters" a door separates the first bedroom and a wardrobe. This one, unfortunately, has access to the only bathroom on the premises. Bear in mind that this house was kept as close to its original state as possible. The bathroom has a shower, flushing toilet and sink with a wall-mounted shelf for belongings. The last bedroom had, along with the wardrobe, a clothes rack and two-seater lounger among other furniture. This room also had a door to the front stoep that overlooked the property. Other than the tea garden and trampoline that's close by, the property also has a pool with a braai area and a bonfire area nearby. Archery is also available, but this must be arranged in advance. Due to dietary restrictions we only cooked for ourselves, but I believe meals can be arranged in advance as well. Now, for our stay. Getting in touch with nature was very easy here with the amount of grass and flora scattered around the property. If you're lucky enough to come from late October onwards, you might get to see the roses in bloom. As it were, we spotted a few here and there along with the poppies outside House of Grace. We had plans for most of our stay so we left in the morning then returned by late afternoon. Most of the evenings and nights we spent playing boardgames. But on 02 October we were merrily surprised. Loadshedding is not uncommon to us so when we suddenly had no power we assumed as such. After checking in with the host she told us a major cable had burnt and severed our electrical connection. We then had to wait for a replacement from not Oudtshoorn, but Cape Town. The hosts had then provided us with some extra lights and said that if we needed anything from charging phones, more lights, to just warming up or cooking our food, we could pop in at the reception as they had a generator to hold them over for the time being. She also let us know that they typically work through the night. By the next morning the power was indeed back. Furthermore there was someone who came to clean up while we were out. The only points to really note about this house are: - the two single beds are in the kitchen/dining area - the bathroom is in another bedroom - the lights don't always go on at first tug - the kitchen sink is in a somewhat awkward corner, but not impossible to reach. All in all, we hope to be back soon.

I’ve been here 3 different times now and have always loved my stay. The rooms are always clean and cozy and the surrounding area is so beautiful. Their cafe is also such a fun addition and I can highly recommend their scones!

We stayed overnight with friends and had a very comfortable stay. The beds were comfy although we did feel that the bathrooms could maybe be spruced up a bit? They were functional but basic. Otherwise the location is lovely and peaceful and we enjoyed breakfast with a view in the morning.

This was a very cute and cosy room with a beautiful view. Very friendly and helpful owners and the tea room pancakes and roosterkoek were super. the location was nice too as it was very quiet but not too far off the beaten track.

The owners are aproachable, kind and responsive. House of Grace, that we stayed in, was clean and homely. You don't go there for electronic entertainment, so the spotty wifi is counterintuitively actually a good thing. The indoor fireplace at braai height, draws well and doesn't smoke the house. I love the fact that, given the choice, I can braai in the kitchen, so I can pinch my wife's rear as she makes potato salad, while I'm turning the meat. The drive to George or Oudtshoorn, is far enough to stop you from going in to town on a whim, but close enough that you don't need to overstock on anything. The pool is inviting and not icy. The surroundings are a fantastic blend between Karoo and coastal greens. It may be a wet time of year that we went, so I cannot swear it would give that impression year round, but I certainly loved the views. You may lament the absence of generators, but people... at the rates they charge, what are you complaining about? If quiet calm is not for you, then perhaps rent a room above a nightclub. As for me, I loved it. And the pillows! Almost forgot the pillows. My only complaint about the pillows, is that now I want the same ones and I forgot to ask where they bought them.

Unpleasantly priced at R900..00 for bed only. No breakfast, no TV no radio. Apart from short meander nothing else to do. Very noisy neighbors who did quieten down after a complaint to management.. Reasonable bed and bath. Won't visit again because of the price. Pity as we had a wonderful stay there about nine years ago.
