The owners are aproachable, kind and responsive. House of Grace, that we stayed in, was clean and homely. You don't go there for electronic entertainment, so the spotty wifi is counterintuitively actually a good thing. The indoor fireplace at braai height, draws well and doesn't smoke the house. I love the fact that, given the choice, I can braai in the kitchen, so I can pinch my wife's rear as she makes potato salad, while I'm turning the meat.
The drive to George or Oudtshoorn, is far enough to stop you from going in to town on a whim, but close enough that you don't need to overstock on anything. The pool is inviting and not icy. The surroundings are a fantastic blend between Karoo and coastal greens. It may be a wet time of year that we went, so I cannot swear it would give that impression year round, but I certainly loved the views. You may lament the absence of generators, but people... at the rates they charge, what are you complaining about? If quiet calm is not for you, then perhaps rent a room above a nightclub. As for me, I loved it.

And the pillows! Almost forgot the pillows. My only complaint about the pillows, is that now I want the same ones and I forgot to ask where they bought them.

Excellent service, hospitality and food! Great spot for hikers and off-road bikers/cyclists to stay, given the surrounding environment. Accommodation suitable for all seasons. Even the pool looked inviting in the middle of winter, but obviously not advisable. 😉

Always stunning to receive good service from any hospitality industry. We were late on our arrival at the tea garden, but was met by the owner with a warm welcome and indicated they are about to close the kitchen, but will gladly serve us, this we appreciated and enjoyed their lovely and fresh scones, served with so much charm. A beautiful and serene view. Worthy stop, when passing through 💤💤💤💤

There were no wifi, or airconditioners in the rooms available (as advertised). It was the hottest week end of the year, we had to ask for a fan. We were two couples who stayed there. If we knew about that, we would rather stayed in a guest house that have airconditioners and wifi.
The view was good.

Response from Gerrit Brits, Owner at Over the Mountain Guest Farm
Responded 15 Sept 2020
We regret that our guests did not have a pleasant stay. It is very disappointing to receive a poor review because guests do not read the information properly. Our booking information and website clearly states that we are 30 minutes drive from either George or Oudtshoorn and that there are NO restaurants nearby, however we do offer dinner and breakfast to guests if they book in advance. Unfortunately we do not offer entertainment to our guests, but Over the Mountain Guest Farm is a place of peace and tranquility where most people get food for the soul.

I’ve been here 3 different times now and have always loved my stay. The rooms are always clean and cozy and the surrounding area is so beautiful. Their cafe is also such a fun addition and I can highly recommend their scones!

We stayed overnight with friends and had a very comfortable stay. The beds were comfy although we did feel that the bathrooms could maybe be spruced up a bit? They were functional but basic. Otherwise the location is lovely and peaceful and we enjoyed breakfast with a view in the morning.

Beautiful, clean room and friendly host. Large room, picteresque surroundings. Delicious rusks! We only stayed one night but will be back to sit in the tea garden and enjoy the peace and quiet atmosphere.

Quaint historic buildings , with comfortable stay, perfectly clean, very reasonable rates. We were welcomed by our host Estelle and complimentary chocolates for all. Shower was perfectly hot and powerful, beds were warm and comfortable.
