If you are visiting Outapi, as I was, this is the only real option for the business traveller. I was here for about eight nights in the VIP room. This consisted of a sitting room, bedroom and bathroom, all generously proportioned. That said, I did not really use the sitting room as the lighting was so dim it was like sitting in the dark at night. Furnishings are rather drab and old fashioned, so forget modern European style hotel. However, unlike other reviews suggest, all was very clean and the room maid came every day and also did my laundry beautifully for a very low cost.

The bathroom was large and entered through the central section of the wardrobes. It contained a huge corner bath with a shower attachment but no taps but that was OK as the separate shower cubicle was more than adequate.

There was A/C in both the bedroom and the sitting room, which worked well in the daily 38 degrees of heat.

The restaurant was a disappointment. Breakfast was scheduled to start at 6.30 but nothing was ever ready at that time. If you had a 7 am start time, as I did, the most you could expect was cereal and milk if you asked for it. Evening meals took an age to prepare, even though the restaurant hardly ever had more than two tables occupied. The range was limited and in the end I gave up on it and got stuff to keep in the fridge in my bedroom.

Service was variable, depending who was on duty and some of the reception staff could be rather surly and unwelcoming.

As the title of this review says, better than expected but do not imagine that this is anything more than a small town hotel in need of an update.

We got there with a booking for a family room. But the room was already occupied. The reception was not aware that we were booked. We got instead 2 double rooms. The bed was fine, bathroom and toilet was clean. We only ate the breakfast because we went out for the night. Swimming pool was clean. There were no hooks or rails for a towel. No bedside lamps. Breakfast was alright.

Room was perfectly fine; decent enough mattress (no linen), working refrigerator, air con, and hot water. Those were the highlights.

Front desk and restaurant staff appallingly slow and bothered by the simplest of requests. Moments where it was so horrible it reached a certain level of comedy. But over a few days the staff warmed up a little bit. Broken bathroom door, chipped tiles, dead remote batteries and other small inconveniences/nuisances but all relatively manageable.

A couple dining options a short distance away and supermarkets where you can stock up on snacks and drinks.

There are two things going for this hotel:
1. They make reasonable mexican pizzas (when & if they have the ingredients)
2. It is the only hotel in town

Number one reason is not guaranteed - I have had to go out and buy ingredients myself so they could make me a meal.
Unfortunately, there isn't much option other than pizzas - meat is stringy, always flat (even fillet steak comes in flat sheet form!)

Breakfasts are really poor - the cheapest of cheap, greasy margarine, room temperature low fat milk for cereal, just ocasionally, real coffee otherwise instant riccoffy, raw bacon, rubbery eggs.

Really, unless you really must stay in Outapi (I have to for business unfortunately) then keep driving - if you are going west it is worth continuing for 150km to Kunene River Lodge, if going east then Oshakati, Ongwediva or Ondangwa.

Rooms were dirty , service was abysmal. The geyser was leaking so no hot water even after complaining several times. In a country where every drop of water is precious , leaking geysers and pipes cannot be forgiven.

We went there to eat with 4 people. The hotel and restaurant is quite dirty and you will find a big variety of different flying insects. So if u are a entomologist, this will be ur first address. Food came one by one after every 20 minutes. Every houswife on this planet is able to cook better then the cookers there. Fresh is a word that seem to be unknown there, regardless wether you order veggies, fish or meat. Pricing is also very interesting: All pizzas are 100N$, except the mexican one, which is 110N$. All pizzas have at least 4 ingredients, the mexican one 5 or 6. I ordered my own one with 2 ingredients only. What we found on the bill was now of course a mexican pizza plus 2 x 20 N$ for extras. After asking the waitress she even insisted in us to pay 130N$ for a pizza with 2 ingredients only. The pizza is just somehow eatable but far not worth that amount of money.

The only hotel in the city, reflects the local situation (northern Namibia near the border with Angola). Some uncertainty at the Reception but all in all a welcome in the standard.Rooms are spacious, modest, with modest but present facilities.I was hosted and did not know about the prices.Friendly and reserved the staff which in any case tries to overcome the needs. The hotel is in a rapidly expanding city and is affected by this situation.Ultimately and considering the situation and the local standard I would say a acceptable hotel with margins of improvement

Outapi really needs more options for accommodation. This is overpriced. Poor service. Just. Bad. Not much in terms of TV. Kettle in room with no plug. Poorly lit common and walking areas. Reception is not... well... receptive.
