The Country House is situated close to the town of Stellenbosch. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. They offer a good breakfast. I think the garden and exterior need some maintenance. The interior of the house is good.

It was my 61. Birthday. No electricity, extremely hot, no drinking water, no water in bathtube… I can recommend this place for young and heatproof backpackers only. The “funny “ messages from the hotel a day before how to spend our time during planned and unplanned power outage was just inappropriate. IT WAS BLOODY HOT AND I COULD NOT SLEEP ! We had to buy power banks to charge our phones.

We had a great stay in 6 rooms at Slaley Country Lodge. The luxury accommodation is neat and comfortable. The manager/host went out of her way to accommodate our group. Would highly recommend this lodge.

Room was pretty but quite useless. It was described as honeymoon suite. I just wonder how many newlyweds enjoy to take a dump in bedroom behind a milk glass door that is not sound- or smellproof. The whole reason I chose this room was a hot tub but during my two night stay it didn't have hot water. Shower worked though but I couldn't use it to fill the tub. And what is the thing about not putting a push button on the gate? People should be able to get out of the estate grounds no matter what. Not all travellers are equipped with internet cards on their foreign phone to contact via whatsapp. Worst part was the load shedding that occured 4 times a day. They also had unexpected power cuts during our stay. Hostess was very apologetic but wouldn't let us use hair dryer in main house. There was electricity for dishwasher too. She mainly told us exuses yet I found that digging cables in to the ground would stop people stealing them. I unerstand that updating the guest house is expensive yet there is no excuse not to mention this on booking sites. To let people know what lies a head of them is just common curtesy. It took them several hours to fix the issue and we had dinner plans to get ready to. Phones were all the time half charged an ac would stop during the night. Imagine that surprise after a day of 36°C and fridge had 1L of water yet 2 bottles of wine. We had to drink tap water and suffer the consequences later.

Beautiful property, modern luxury rooms, nice pool, friendly staff and host, romantic surrounding with dam, cranes, guinea fowls etc. Savoury breakfast. Only lack, no generators during load shedding. Complete Blackout.

We and our friends booked two double rooms for 5 nights at Slayley Country House in February on the basis of the reviews we had read – HUGE MISTAKE!! The good points were that the beds were comfortable and the rooms were clean but… We have stayed in several guest houses in South Africa and this place was the worst we have experienced by a long way! The bathrooms and toilets had floor to ceiling glass walls so there was no privacy whatsoever. There was nowhere in the rooms to open our cases on so we had to store them opened on the floor. The swimming pool water was very murky (we have owned a pool and know that this is due to the filtration system not being properly maintained). You certainly could not see the bottom and had no clue as to how deep it was. None of the sunbeds had mattresses on them, there were no sun umbrellas and the waste bin in the toilet was overflowing with paper towels and clearly hadn’t been cleaned out for a while. Breakfast was served in a room with one long glass wall with no aircon or fan, so it was like eating in an oven most mornings. Cats roamed the dining room and often jumped up onto the tables and food area without any control by the staff. There were many steps on different levels between the car park and the rooms which made taking cases to and from the room very difficult. Definitely not a place to stay if you have mobility problems.

The reception by Kimberley was very courteous and extremely informative. The immediate impression was of peace. The outstanding feature was the quality of the suites which were simply superb and very well furnished. The range and quality of the breakfast was excellent. A very relaxing stay for us.

Relaxed ambience, stylish rooms, large breakfast, good security. Enjoyed the complimentary wine from their cellar. Slaley has a few locations so pay attention to the directions to the country house. Hostess was informative and friendly.
