Detailed Reviews
From the moment you enter this Game Reserve you are taken care of. The reception by the staff is welcoming and warm. Due to the size of the area and the triple volume ceiling, you feel light with lots of seating places. You are served with fresh hot samoosas and mini pizzas along with any beverage including masala tea.
We had booked a standard room at the Game Reserve but surprisingly were upgraded to the new Elephant Ridge suite facing the lions’ den. The room were spacious and luxurious. The room came with complimentary beverages and snacks and we were supplied with fresh bottled water daily. The view predator sanctuary from the room was unbelievable for the kids.
The morning and evening Game Drives provided were great with an experienced ranger with vast knowledge and tracking experience. Innocent interacted with our kids beautifully and my daughters knowledge about animals increased tremendously along with ours. We were thrilled to see all Big 4 bar the leopard. The drives that way are scary as you move in open vehicles in close proximity (right next to the vehicle) to the wild animals like lions, elephants, rhinos, hippos, giraffes, etc.
The food served at the Game reserve was of excellent quality and felt like home.
The Game Reserve has a lot of indoor games like air hockey, table tennis, billiards, darts and outdoor activities like swimming, tennis, etc. There is a huge jungle gym for kids too.
Awesome stay. Thank you again to Kwantu.

We had heard good things about Kwantu but were not sure what to expect. If the reviews and comments from our kids are anything to go by, then you have your answer. The keep asking when we will be going back. they thoroughly enjoyed their time there and being in the wild.
Some of the game drives we went on were long (3 hours) but they were thoroughly engrossed and enjoyed the time. Blankets were available when it became chilly.
We managed to see 4 of the 5 Big 5 (did not see a leopard) on different drives, with up close views of most of the animals. Seeing a lion next to a fresh carcass was the highlight. be prepared to wait a bit, as finding the animals in such a big area can take a while.
The hotel is very organised and when we arrived we had an itinerary worked out for us. we were there for two evening but had three game drives arrange, one for the first afternoon, mid morning and early morning (6am - the kids were up for this)
One thing i think the reserve could do with is a kids club. There is a games room and some activities for the smaller kids but most of the activities (pool, table tennis etc) aimed at older children.
there is an outdoor pool and an indoor pool is still under construction.
the game drive was enjoyable and the plus is the fact that the ranger we had was very knowledgeable
there is no safe in the room (we stayed at Elephant Ridge) but did not have any issues with valuables going missing.
the staff are very helpful and assist wherever they can. the variety at meal time satisfies any palate!

We had a fantastic experience. Our guide Avella was very knowledgeable and we saw 4 of the big 5. Compared to other reserves Kwantu is great value for money with all game drives included. Accommodation is furnished and cleaned to a very high standard.
I would definitely recommend this place and look forward to giving them a 5* rating next time… if they just sort out the two fire places in the communal areas (too much smoke) and refurbished some of the toys in the children’s games room. My children spent a lot of time in between game drives and swimming at the games room. It’s a nice large safe space to play away from the adults.

We visited the reserve with our family and everyone from young to old, enjoyed the experience.
The hospitality of the staff at reception and dining was lovely. A particular highlight for us was our game driver, Innocent, who made the drives and tours memorable by ensuring we had a great experience each time and sharing his knowledge. We were never bored!
The meals were delicious. My one recommendation would be to include a wholesome salad at each meal. A small shop or kiosk would also be nice for snacks for kids.
The accommodation we stayed at at Elephant Ridge was neat and well suited for a family.

I stayed as a volunteer on the reserve. The accommodation was far better than expected with lots of storage, great bathrooms and was spotless. The volunteer coordinators went out of their way to make my stay as comfortable as possible and I thank them for all their kindness. The rangers were enthusiastic and knowledgeable and it was a pleasure to be out on the reserve with them. The guest facilities were really good wit lots of spacious comfortable lounges. I loved my time on the reserve and would go back with no hesitation.

Last summer I spent a wonderfull month in the Kwantu reserve doing the conservation volunteering. It was an incredible experience!
We went out daily to observe and identify animals and activities to conserve the environment; how to make plantations, control of invasive plants, also according to the needs of the environment.
It's a great volunteer to learn about nature, the dynamics of the environment and their habitants. All this while we enjoy meeting new people and making good friends. The Kwantu team is a great family, very hospitable, affectionate and dedicated to teaching and preserving this great land. To the entire Kwantu family, thank you so much for this great experience!

Kwantu game reserve is a beautifully designed, home away from home. On the first day’s short introductory drive we saw elephants and White Rhino up close and many different species of buck and birds. Day two we spotted lions, hyena, rhinos, hippopotamuses etc. There’s a wildlife rehabilitation center as well. The ambiance, warm and friendly staff, guides that go out of their way to ensure that you see every possible animal, the AMAZING food, many entertainment areas and comfortable rooms all created the elements for an unforgettable stay. Well done Kwantu!

This experience was a little different than Botlierskop Game Reserve as my excursion here included a visit to a sanctuary for big cats, African dances and lunch after our adventure looking for the big 5. Had a great time and enjoyed up close encounters with the animals. It was chilly and windy that day, so some of the animals were hiding in the bush to shelter from the cool air. Made our search a little ore challenging but still had a good day nonetheless.
The luncheon was very nice as well.

We recently stayed at Kwantu for 2 nights. While the game drives were excellent, the hotel is certainly not a 5 star experience.
The finishing touches in the room were not up to a 5 star standard, the pool area and tennis courts were run down, the dining room was not well maintained
In terms of food, the options provided were decent. However, the variety is quite small for a buffet and one has to ask for certain things (like cool drink, a warm cooked egg at breakfast).
The staff were all very pleasant and tried to make our stay as easy as possible
Once again, we had a lovely game drive experience but the hotel is certainly not 5 star

+1
Kwantu is really fabulous on all fronts. The welcome is five star - snacks and drinks and tour of the resort. Within an hour you are already whisked away to your first game drive.
The rooms are really good, large and clean. The bathroom was also spacious and lovely. The room comes with a semi stocked fridge and some complementary snacks.
The meals are all tasty and plentiful. Having everything catered for is brilliant. Having everything halaal is more than brilliant.
The game drives are adventurous - and you will probably see 4 of the big 5. Great views, great guides.
The service was also above par! We will definitely return.

1. They have game drives at different times..in the morning and in the afternoon..animals have different temperaments...so some animal you can see in the early morning and some in the evening...yes definitely different wonderful experiences.
2. I notice if there alot of a certain nationality present...most of the catering is suited for them. To be honest there was a couple from India and they were struggling a bit as at that time there were alot of Chinese tourists so the food varieties was suiting them.if I were you I would let them know your dates in advance in an email and notify them of your meal requirements and ask them to specifically cater for you..they are quite helpful in any way to make your stay comfortable and they definitely will make special arrangements...just make sure you ask before hand.
3.as I stay in south Africa..I just phoned and made a booking over the phone
Did not use any websites or booking apps etc.
Hope this was helpful
Kwantu allows kids of all ages onto the game drive with prior arrangements and under parent supervision.
Hi Djs482
Kwantu does provide free wi-fi in all of the rooms.
There is free Wifi in the lounge area by the dining room. It is a large space with plenty of sofas and chairs to catch up using the Wifi.
I totally recommend Kwantu it is one of South Africa's must dos!!!
