Mercure Thame Lambert Hotel Stayed nights 31st July and 1st August 2021 Last stayed at this hotel 2018 before lockdowns. So comparisons are from then. See my Tripadvisor review June 2018 Some covid restrictions were still in place. So the room was not serviced whilst we stayed there. Had no problem with that. Wearing of masks was not enforced, in fact, it was 50/50 as to whether staff were wearing one. We had room 202, which was desperately in need of some TLC. Bathroom had a cracked toilet bowl. Not very hygenic, and wall paper coming off the wall. Also a light bulb needed replacing. The room itself, was in need of a fresh up coat of paint. Lots of dings and knocks on the wall. Window handles needed repairing. One was hanging off and not useable. Reception were told on check out, but didn’t seem really interested. Reception, bar and restaurant also all looking a bit tired and sad. On the hotel website, it tells you that “Mark Tullet” is not only the manager, but also the Chef. It also tells you that the Kite Restaurant has an AA rosette award and is Gourmet Cuisine. I believe that none of these statement to be true at the moment. I stand to be corrected on that. The restaurant quality and menu selection was no where near as good as what was offered in 2018. Covid blamed for the short menu. On the a la carte menu, not a lot of thought had been given to people with food allergies. More of that later. As a red meat eater, there was only really 4 choices on the a la carte menu. 16oz T bone steak at over £40. 10oz Rib Eye steak at over £20. Pork chop or cheese burger, both around the £15 mark. Not a great choice or very Gourmet. A couple of other comments on the restaurant. “Triple Cooked Chips” think of hand cut, three times cooked to make the crispy on the outside, and fluffy in the middle. Think the nearest I got, was they came out of a freezer bag with Tripple Cooked printed on. Not cooked right through, and quite soggy. Sunday Breakfast – buffet style. The chafing sets were not keeping the food hot enough. Sausages looked insipid, not browned at all, bacon the same, actually looked as though it had never been cooked. Monday Breakfast – cooked to order – superb. But …………. on a brighter note, the plus side of the story. Not quite sure how spelt, I am going with “Aaron”, who advised me he was the manager. So now we go back to the menu. My wife is dairy intolerant, and he did advise on what didn’t have dairy, very little, on the a la carte. So first night, she had a plain gilled chicken breast with salad. Not very inspiring. But on the second night, more menus appeared. Not only do they have the a la carte, but there is the Sunday roast menu, a set menu, and during the week, the lunch menu. So the. choice really widened. Although, still no dairy free starters, they did do a special dairy free risotto for her. So don’t be afraid to ask if Aaron is on, he is very helpful, and likeable. Summarising, I feel higher management are using covid to cut corners, and as always, it’s the people on the shop floor, that have to take the complaints. Hopefully on our next visit, all will be sorted.

This was my second visit to Thame Lambert - we returned because we wanted a hotel with generous outside spaces for both eating and leisure. Unfortunately there was a conference and the dining patio and gardens were out of bounds until 'officially' 2:00 pm of our second day. In reality, although the conference finished around that time, the debris remained for a couple of hours and rendered the garden unusable. Apart from that, the staff were all extremely helpful, the food both at breakfast and dinner, was very good and our room was excellent - clean and comfortable. It was just a pity that a courtesy call from the management to warn us of the conference and their requirements, was not made. I imagine that the superb weather prompted the conference organisers to request the exclusive use of the grounds - management shoud not forget clients who are paying full price, NOT corporate rates, deserve to be treated as equalls, if not priority guests. We mentioned this both during our stay and at check out - we were told that our comments would be passed on to management - if they were, we still haven't heard anything from them.

Lovely place, friendly staff. Room was large and clean, views were over the countryside. We had dinner which was very tasty and reasonably priced. Breakfast was absolutely fantastic the variety was amazing, the cooked breakfast was brought to your table and you helped yourself to everything else. A special mention must go to Arun who served us our dinners and breakfasts, he was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble.

We stayed for 3 nights and can honestly say the staff especially Arran, Tawnie and housekeeping were excellent. We were made to feel very welcome and loved Arran's approach to management. A fresh outlook on tips and would definitely return. Food was gorgeous and the staff couldn't do enough for us. From there we visited Liverpool Mercure hotel. Totally different experience. I know it's a bigger and more central hotel however staff were not as experienced and were only allowed 30minutes for breakfast.
