Located directly along side the falls themselves we stayed in the covered tented accommodation with attached en-suite shower facilities. The grounds and waterfalls are spectacular. The food in the pool side restaurant is excellent serving food throughout the day. Following the various footpaths to a number of waterfall view points is a must. It can get chilly in the evenings up here in the winter months so electric radiator’s are provided along with in thick duvet and additional blankets. We spent 3 nights here in August before heading South and the place was quite quiet. I would highly recommend this place to anyone, so beautiful.

We stayed in the Beehive unit that was really cool! The room itself is beautifully decorated and right in front of the unit is a beautiful sunrise.
Breakfast was included. We also had dinner there which we were thankful for as we arrived very late (but dinner was mediocre for such a gem of place - would suggest they get a chef to relook their menu).
Water heater (geyser) wasn't good for 2 people taking a shower (it was winter and don't think the geyser is big enough).
No wifi at unit, but we didn't mind.

Owner is nice and friendly and was good to chat to him.
Nice people working there.
We took a walk in one of the medium-length routes, and couldn't find where the route continues, and turned back. Nice picnic and view spots.

This is really a nice place in the mountains and nature reserve that I have wanted to go to for many years since passing it when at Malolotja Nature Reserve.

Would recommend to others who love nature. There are a few different options for units - and we are glad we chose the Beehive unit which offered privacy and away from other units.

Thank you for your review of Phophonyane Lodge! We are thrilled to hear that you had a wonderful stay in our Beehive unit. We're glad you enjoyed the inclusive breakfast and had the opportunity to try our dinner service, although we apologize if it didn't meet your expectations. We appreciate your suggestion regarding the menu and will certainly take it into consideration to improve our offerings. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the water heater not being sufficient for two people taking a shower, especially during winter. We will look into this matter to ensure that our guests have a comfortable experience. We're glad you didn't mind the absence of WiFi in the unit as we strive to provide a nature-focused and peaceful environment for our guests. We're also pleased to hear that you found our owner to be nice and friendly, and enjoyed interacting with our staff. Thank you for recommending Phophonyane Lodge to others who love nature. We have a variety of different unit options to cater to our guests' preferences, and we're glad you found the privacy and seclusion you were looking for in the Beehive. Thank you for choosing Phophonyane Lodge, and we hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back in the future for another memorable stay in the mountains and nature reserve. Best regards, Phophonyane Lodge.

Surrounded by forrest, nice hiking trails, falls. The rooms are well equiped, a comfortable main house invite for staying inside to spend time at the fire place with a nice glass of wine. Staff & owners are really friendly as well. Will come back

We visited the falls and the view and place is Lovely. When we went to the restaurant we were told there was no cheese and they couldn’t make us pizza. The waitress was extremely rude and laughed at us when we asked if there were any other vegetarian options. When we asked if the chef could make anything else for us instead, she didn’t even go in to ask and said I know they won’t. We asked to speak with the chef and eventually she called the chef and the chef made some garlic Bread. The restaurant didn’t even have lemon. Was extremely disappointed with the service. The view and place is lovely but the service was terrible and I wouldn’t recommend the restaurant if you’re vegetarian as they are not very accommodating. We did complain about the waitress and we got a discount on the bill but still doesn’t make up for the bad service.

What a beautiful property: restored indigenous forest with well-marked and maintained hiking trails, rock pools and a natural waterfall. The accommodation was comfortable and there is the option to self cater or eat at their restaurant. Our family ages ranged from 4 to 80 and there was something for everyone. We would definitely return.

Although the place offers a peaceful break away from the city to nature, its facilities have to be updated. This especially so because the rates are almost similar to those of modern and up to date establishments. The carpets and sofas at the restaurant have that old undesirable smell. The kitchen has limited cutlery and utensils. The winner for me was the quality of staff. Their service is superb!, they are simply the best. From Mr. Vilakati at the gate to Ms. Mohale at reception and the kitchen staff as well. They all go above and beyond the call of duty. The hiking trails were well-kept, and the swimming pool aswell.

We stayed overnight at Phophonyane Falls Ecolodge on the way from Johannesburg to Kosi Bay. The signage on the small forest roads up to the lodge was okay, but you had to pay attention to follow the signage. It was a lovely stop at the lodge where we managed a short beautiful hike in the late afternoon to a small beautiful waterfall and then a good dinner by a nice warm fire and a good night's sleep in beehives, to the sound of the waterfall. The staff were nice and we got a good tip from the manager on a beautiful road south through Swaziland. All in all, we are very happy with our stay.

What an amazing, beautiful place this is, we highly recommend a get away into the=is African jungle environment to renew and refresh the spirit. The stunning vegetation with the such attention to detail everywhere is simply beautiful. Flowing streams of natural water created a wonderful soundtrack to our stay. Stunning accommodation, peaceful sleep and friendly efficient staff made our stay a great experience. And the food! Wow blown away by the best fillet I've ever had. Well done Phophonyane, we will be back for sure

We only got to spend one night at Ecolodge on our way from the South to Kruger and wished we had stayed longer. We are a family of 6 (children from 15 to 8y) and we all felt in love with the place and the hosts. It is just unique. The little cottages are immersed in the nature and it feels like time stopped. The restaurant has amazing views and food. There are also a lot of trails to explore around. It was very difficult to leave!

We stayed just one night here before we had to head back to Ireland from Johannesburg airport the next evening. I wish we had planned at least one more night.
I generally don't give maximum ratings, because occasionally you'll stay in a place like this, that really, really deserves it and then you will think of other places you gave 5 stars to and think well was it really that good?
The Lodge is right next to the lovely falls and is as peaceful and relaxing as you could wish. There are fabulous walking trails through the natural woods, and amongst the many little nooks and crannies there are beautiful picnic or chill out spots plus a swimming pool tastefully built next to the falls which is continuously fed by the natural water from the river. Oh and a 'conventional' swimming pool, but we never went in it.
The grounds are simply beautiful and there are some local monkeys to add a splash of mischief.
The restaurant was very laid back and the food very good. Staff were great, the owner Rod is very helpful and full of good advice.
It's a bit more expensive than other places perhaps but worth double the price.
If we are ever in Swaziland, Kruger or anywhere else in the vicinity we will certainly be going back.
