Kerry and Anton ensured that we had an amazing stay at Inkungu.

Spacious room, beautiful view and AMAZING breakfast.

Inking is the perfect base to explore this part of the berg, with so many beautiful attractions on your doorstep.
Would definitely stay again!

We decided late on a Friday night to visit the Drakensburg for 1 night. Rory the manager was efficient and found us rooms for the next night. He is incredibly professional, friendly and helpful. The lodge is comfortable and the food was exceptional. The situation with the view over the mountains is the best in the area. The gardens are well maintained and the dam walk is peaceful. Am amazing lodge.

My husband and I decided to have a weekend getaway in the berg and found Inkunga lodge on the net...so glad we did. The lodge is owned and managed by husband and wife team Kerry and Anton. We were received by Kerry and she settled us in a beautiful room with a fireplace and stunning views of Cathkin peak. Room was spacious and stunning, decorated with antique furniture. There are two spacious lounges on the upper level and also lots of relaxation space downstairs. The lodge just sleeps 16 in 8 rooms. But don't be fooled the lodge is absolutely spacious because they have left lots of space to just chill. The meals were excellent. We had breakfast included and we had one dinner. Kerry and Anton go the extra mile to make sure the guests are comfortable. I would definitely recommend this place for a couples getaway.

Positives (rating 4) Lovely establishment. Fantastic view. Hosts were super accommodating. Very homely feel to the place with many great pieces of classic antique furniture. Good quality food.

Negatives (less 1 point) A lovely dinner was nearly ruined by scalding hot sauces/soup. My late breakfast on other hand served up cold. Very thin walls and layout of the place means one can hear dinner, chatting, loud music from bedroom which really detracted from the peacefulness I was expecting. Housekeeping could do with some attention to removing spiders and cleaning carpets.

The lodge itself is fantastic, located on a hill which overlooks the mountains. We stayed here for 7 days and can not fault accommodation, room and service was excellent. Breakfast was superb however the evening meal was a little on the small side portion wise and in my view a little disappointing.

On arrival, the manager was out and there was some confusion which rooms we were given. My room(7) was dark and had an unpleasant smell. The carpet had seen better days and the bathroom tiles were cracked in several places, the safe was free standing and next to the toilet. There was no rubbish basket and despite asking twice for one it did not appear till the following day. My balcony had stunning views but no seats to enjoy it from. The upstairs landing and seating area feels like a furniture storage room. The manager described the staff as a "lazy tribe" despite having to be woken up himself on several occasions. The dinner on the first night was extremely poor, the second day we were informed there would be no dinner served as the staff were off. The manager did however provide us with plates and knives to make up some sandwiches and allowed us to chill some wine in the hotel fridge(no fridges are provided in the rooms)
On several occasions the manager was told that the hotel's dog had made a mess by the pool but no attempt was made to clean it up.
Having read some of the glowing reviews the hotel has received on this site I am confused how my experience could be so different.

Anton and I, as owners of the lodge, are answering this review personally as we do take all reviews very seriously. In our 10 years of operation we have never had a review like this one. The service that you received was obviously way below our usual standard and for that we apologize profusely. We are relieved and gratified that your travelling companions appeared to have enjoyed their stay and management appreciates their warmth and their positive comments. On inspection we have found that there are 3 tiles in the bathroom with hairline cracks. These have been attended to. With regard to the decor in the upstairs lounges, the Victorian and French antique furniture is not everyone's cup of tea but we do have a very descriptive and photographically rich website which should give a pretty clear indication of what to expect. As you will see from the other reviews many of our guests enjoy the historic contribution that these pieces give to the atmosphere of Inkungu. We get very little negative critique but we do value these as they give us opportunity to improve. Kerry and Anton

We had our wedding celebration at Inkungu Lodge. The owners were very helpful and accommodating. The food at the restaurant was delicious. The rooms were cozy and the furniture at the lodge has a lot of history associated with it. The view from the rooms and pool area are beautiful and the staff make you feel at home.

I stayed here for four nights. My room had an amazing view of the mountains, a huge bathroom and its own living area. I found the bed comfortable.

The dinner service was amazing and I was adequately catered for. I didn't really enjoy the breakfast (I'm vegetarian) but I'm not a breakfast person either do I might be just me.

The hotel decor is gorgeous, tasteful and classy. Not pretentious, cheap nor overdone. I'm not a fan of big hotels so this small hotel perfectly suited my tastes. I wish the lounges in the common areas were adequately heated because I would have loved to read there.

To the reason why I am not scoring a five: I booked this hotel for 3 reason. 1 it had a fireplace in the room I selected; 2 it is small; 3 it is not too far from Johannesburg.

Reason 1 was a huge disappointment. The gas fireplaces weren't working. The aircon doesn't have a heating function so I basically froze at night. I could sympathise with the gas leak issue but not the aircons that don't have heating.

Kerry and Anton were outstanding hosts and they made me feel right at home. I will definitely return to Inkungu Lodge, hopefully on my next visit the fireplaces will be in perfect working order.

Hi Simamile, I must apologise for the fireplaces not working on your visit. I'm afraid getting maintenance work done in the country can take time and your visit slipped in just before the maintenance crew could get here. Thank you for understanding and giving us such a lovely review notwithstanding. The good news is that your next visit will be to lovely roaring fires in the fireplaces. Lovely meeting you, Kerry
