Im bitterly disappointed with the customer service and the clear lack of business savy shown by this hotel. Not only did they refuse to change the dates of the reservation, only interested in making a quick 50euro from the cancellation fee instead of securing a potential future customer for a minimum of a four night stay, not to mention the possibility of future stays, they also had the audacity to blame booking.com for their inability to do so. I have used booking.com numerous times and have always been happy with the service so I find this very difficult to believe. Due to a family member testing positive for Covid, my dad was unable to travel to visit us as planned, while the airline involved was able to change the flights completely free of charge, the Pension Catamaran were not. I called them directly two full days before date of reservation as soon as we realised there was an issue, the person I spoke to informed me they were unable to deal with anything related to changes and told me to call back the following day at 12 noon. In the meantime, I used the form available on booking to request a change of dates, which was subsequently refused and when I called I was told that it was too short notice and it was because I had made the reservation using booking.com that perhaps if I had made the booking directly with them, they might have been able to help me which I don´t believe for a second. As soon as I made the request for a date change, they charged me for the first night at the hotel. Their refusal to change the dates meant I cancelled what was supposed to be a four night stay forfeiting the 52euro cancellation fee.…

After spending six consecutive nights in Alberques, this little Hostal was a haven. I will definitely recommend staying there when walking the Camino del Norte. We had a pin neat room en suite, friendly staff at an affordable price. We found it easy to find after obtaining a map from info on the beach front. It is centrally placed to ammenities and tourist attractions.

We were walking on the Camino del Norte and did have some difficulty finding this Hostal but once we did, we were not disappointed. Castro Urdiales is a rather large town with many tourists and people all around but the rooms were quiet. Despite no view of the water, bars and restaurants were near by. We only slept here one night but slept well. A comfortable, clean choice with a helpful front desk.

We loved this little hotel. The rooms are small and basic but immaculate and cleaned daily. The staff are friendly and helpful and the hotel is well located. It is only a few minutes walk to the port or the bus stop for Bilbao. The town itself is beautiful and lively. We will definitely be back.

After experiencing numerous hotels in Northern Spain in this price range and much cheaper that had surpassed expectations in every way this was a big disappointment. From the outside it was hard to find and then we entered into a dark stark pokey lobby and our room could only just fit our twin beds and had no attempt at decoration, was dark and just lacking in any creature comforts. The communal facilities are limited to a room with breakfast tables and chairs and not really appealing for breakfast. Staff were helpful however and location was great for old town. There is wifi but no parking.

Stayed one nigh, wouldn't go back, I'd asked for a double bed, got two twins, I asked for a room with a balcony got a small window in to an airless yard, even though I had an email saying I would go these. Room WA spoken and ridiculously airless, staff couldn't care less and to top it all on Booking.com it said breakfast but there was none. There must be better places at a similar price. My friends room did have a washing line over the street which he loved. Alo the WiFi was crap.

My wife and myself booked Catamaran for 3 nights. It is one of those off street hostals that you are always a bit apprehensive of. When we checked in and saw the room our faces dropped. I'm afraid I am struggling to find something positive about the Catamaran, more about that in a moment. Firstly the room ! we have stayed in small hotels, hostals, and pensions right across the north of Spain for many years from San Sebastian to Coruna.. including Zatautz, Bilbao several times, Noja, Santona, Santillana del Mar, Suances, Comillas, Gijon, Luarca, Coruna. This was the most disappointing and smallest room we have ever stayed in. The view was peoples washing lines. The door/window to the tiny balcony didn’t open properly because the bed was in the way. There was just barely room for the bed and a tiny locker at either side. There was about a foot and a half of space between the foot of the bed and the small shelf/table. No room for cases. At no point in the room was there space for two (average sized) people to pass each other. The wooden floors were worn down to the bare timber in places. The walls however had been painted as evidenced by the paint spatters around the floor edges. It was in in fact a basic single room with a slightly bigger bed. Certainly not a double, never mind the”Queen” we were supposed to have. No problem with cleanliness. bed sheets etc, Toilet also clean, though very old and tiny. No shower mat, which made stepping out of shower treacherous for two 60 + people. We did complain and ask for a bigger room but they were booked up so that was not a runner. We did however get a bigger room for our last night. Mind you it was nowhere near the " Queen Room" we had booked but was a vast improvement. We were actually going to book in somewhere else anyway as we could not have stayed a third night in the " Cell ". Castro is a beautiful spot and would certainly return, alas not to the Catamaran. If you are looking at the website you may well be taken in but do ask for one of the rooms in the photos. The room did include breakfast, BUT. you need to ask for a ticket at the reception as the breakfast is in the Cafe next door. We missed the first morning as we did not know this. I give this 2 out of 5 as the last mark is "Terrible" and that would be a bit unfair. However at €70.00 per night I do not consider it good value, and there are much nicer places to be had for the price, and certainly for an extra 10 or 15 Euros.…
