Stayed here for two nights while waiting for the ferry to the UK. I chose it due to its location close to Bilbao Port. It took a while to get checked in as the bar staff also appear to man the reception desk and as it was a Sunday afternoon the bar was busy. Room clean and comfortable. No air conditioning and no fans so it was a bit warm. Rooms seem to all overlook the road which was very close and the bar underneath meant that people sitting outside talking were a bit intrusive when trying to sleep. The day starts fairly early so HGV's stopping / starting around 0600h were a bit annoying. Breakfast is orange juice/ coffee and one selection from the vast array of bocadillas laid out on the bar. For dinner the restaurant is a menu del dia choice, a reasonable choice although I suspect vegans and other dietary limitations might be a problem.

We walked the Camino Norte in September and ended up staying here for a night. The location was further off the Camino than we had hoped, but the following morning the route back to the Camino takes you further West so all in all we didn’t add any distance. The place looks more like a truck stop than a country hotel so don’t expect any rural charm, however it was such good value this more than made up for its practicality. The food was great. Really tasty and filling and such good value for money. We were asked which wine we wanted and because there was four of us we ended up with a full bottle of white and red included in the price of the meal. The restaurant itself was busy with truck drivers (who know a thing or two about where to get a good meal) and the local police (ditto) A special mention must go to the staff. I regret waiting so long to write this as I have now forgotten the names, but everyone was helpful and friendly. A lady who worked in the bar helped us by booking the next nights accommodation using her own mobile phone and after doing an internet search. I would definitely stay here again and would like to thank everyone who made our stay so enjoyable .

We found this restaurant about 18 years ago it was very Spanish and very basic but good and it still is great we had a 3 course meal and a bottle of wine for 28.euros if you only want posh stuff don’t go but if you want do something different this is a good place a little bit of the Spanish language will be useful as it’s not a tourist place so very little English but the staff are helpful and friendly.

This hotel is situated outside the village of Onton and about 10 kilometers outside the beautiful city of Castro Urdiales. And it is fair to say it is in the middle of nowhere. We were walking, and this part of Spain has a lot to offer people who want to go hiking or want to try one of Spains many pilgrims ways - we were on the Northern way. The hotel is on the roadside, next to a gas station, so it is not very charming. However, the room was really good, spacious and with a nice bath. We had dinner in the restaurant and the steak was really good.

I booked this hotel for a one night stay prior to catching the ferry for the UK. Existing reviews persuaded me that this would be good value but I wasn't expecting wonders, just a decent place to get a good nights rest before continuing my journey. What a mistake that was! The only good thing I can find to say about is that the staff were welcoming and pleasant but that's it! The hotel is situated right on the road, next to a 24 hour cafeteria and opposite a petrol station so forget having a quiet nights sleep. The room smelt of cigarette smoke so we aired it well as soon as we arrived by opening the windows wide. Because it was a warm night we had to leave the windows open overnight as there is no air con, and we had to listen to groups of people outside both the hotel bar and the cafe next door well into the early hours, not to mention the passing traffic. Because the hotel is not in a village there was nowhere else to go for an evening meal that did not involve getting in car again so we ate in the hotel dining room where they were offering a menu del dia for 12€. The menu sounded good but didn't live up to what it promised - at least our choices didn't. So much for fabulous cocina vasca. We both suffered heartburn and indigestion that night. My advice would be to choose somewhere else to stay.
