We had a thoroughly enjoyable week at the Stella Hotel Apartments and would recommend it to anyone.
The hotel is family run and the owners are delightful. Nothing was too much trouble and we even were given a welcome bottle of wine on arrival and a bottle of olive oil when we left.
There is no denying that the hotel decor is getting a bit 'tired' and is in need of smartening up but this in no way affected our enjoyment of it, once you look past the peeling paint, broken tiles etc you realise that the rooms are very well equipped and extremely comfortable. I've never stayed in a hotel room that provided a set of bathroom scales (useful for weighing yourself after all that moussaka and your luggage before the flight home!). The room was spacious, the bed comfortable and the view from the balcony wonderful. We booked a 'partial sea view' room, which was fine, although the view one floor above was jaw dropping. We used the communal sun terrace on the roof for our evening 'sundowners' so we could enjoy the same view as the guests who had paid that but more for their rooms.
We chose to have the breakfast included with the room, which was a good start to each day. It was fairly basic fare but enough to set you up for a day on the beach or sightseeing.
Fiskardo centre is about a 15 minute level walk. This means the town is accessible for an evening meal but the hotel is quiet.
Although the Stella Apartments Hotel is lovely, be warned that there are a lot of steps to climb to get from the road to the entrance if you have mobility issues. A lift is available once you get inside the hotel.
Parking is free on the road outside if you have a hire car. Some things like beach towels are provided free of charge.
Fiskardo is a lovely town and is very popular with the yachting crowd, so it does tend to be a bit expensive. There are a couple of supermarkets for essentials and lots of tavernas lining the harbour, which are great for 'people watching' in the evening. We would recommend the Nicholas Taverna on the far side of the harbour by the ferry terminal for its food and great view from the terrace. We also recommend the Foki Taverna half a mile on the road south out of Fiskardo (easily walkable from the hotel) for its home cooking and slightly cheaper prices.
From Fiskardo you can get the ferry to Lefkada (10 Euros each way for foot passengers). This makes a cheap day trip if you spend some time on the beaches on the other side and have lunch at a taverna. We also booked a day boat trip to Ithaca (45 Euros) which was good fun with some lovely swimming stops. With our car we visited some of the few ancient ruins which survived the earthquake in 1953 (most of the island was flattened) and towns like Assos, which is in a stunning location. There are some sandy beaches on the island, but they do get very crowded. If you are prepared to settle for a rock and pebble beach then you can get away from the crowds.
We happily recommend the Stella Apartments Hotel for its friendly owners, its facilities and its location.

Great quiet location but within 5 minutes walk of the pretty harbour and all its bars, restaurants and shops.
The apartment was spotless and really well maintained with great views of the bay. The host was really attentive and spent the time to explain how the apartment functions. The room was really big and had access to a lovely covered balcony. We couldn’t fault it.

A fantastic stay with Antonis and his wonderful family at Stella Apartments.
Comfortable clean apartment with all mod cons and a stunning view across Fiskardo bay from our balcony.
Excellent breakfast served with care and only a short stroll into town or to the beach.
Cannot wait to return!!

Like the review on August 30th 2014 (that I failed to read before my stay) there were about 40+ cats & kittens, all piled on top of each other by the main entrance to the apartments. My husband and I are cat owners (only 2) We love cats and have no problem with cats or allergies. When the manager showed us to our room (superior apartment on second floor) we were wowed by the view immediately from the balcony, we did not really pay attention to the room. The manager was helpful and told us about the safe, air con etc.
We got ready and went off to explore the wonderful surroundings of Fiskardo and tavernas, after a fantastic night, we got back to the apartment, let ourselves in through the vast amount of cats huddled by the front door, passing the sign 'NO PETS' so carefully leaving all the cats outside. We opened our apartment door and went in, we soon realised we were not alone.........a scruffy looking cat was asleep on the chair on top of my husbands trousers as had come in on the second floor balcony through a window. We tried to shoo it away, but it was friendly enough, eventually it did leave of its own accord but not until it had thrown the entire contents of its stomach all over the bathroom floor and mat...........carrots and all!
In the superior room is a mosquito net to place over the bed whilst you sleep, this time of year I am told there are lots of Mosquitos and believe me there are (this is not the managers fault it is a fact) however the net was as useful as a chocolate teapot! It had many rips and holes in, we were eaten alive. Thus no real sleep at all that night or the second night. We should have checked out after the awful experience of the first night but decided to grin and bear it.
There was a hole in the cracked and glued back together shower door to the cubicle where the handle must have been, the shower was also so incredibly small for such a large bathroom. The bin under the kitchen sink was filthy I did not want to touch it to place anything in it, the chairs on the balcony were falling apart and there were blood stains from swatted Mosquitos on every wall and ceiling, including the musty hole ridden mosquito net.
From reading all the reviews on trip advisor before booking, I can only think they were about completely different hotel.
In fact when we checked out and paid our bill, we were not even asked "how was your stay" just "did you have anything from the mini bar" the manager did not even give my husband his passport back, so we did have to return for this (good job we remembered).
We wanted to stay another night in Fiscardo, so am staying in The Almyra and so far this gets 10 out of 10........great service, cleanliness, fantastic views.
I will never ever go back to Stella Apartments and I would not dream of recommending it to any friends or family.
I understand it's the end of season and staff are feeling fed up and tired, but there are still a few holiday makers around that have worked just as hard all year round to spend a well earnt holiday enjoying themselves........maybe a small smile if that can be managed would very much be appreciated.
It is probably a blessing that the Stella apartments manager just took our money and didn't ask us how was our stay! He would have got a few words from my very patient husband, who believes in good customer service yet had not seen it checking out at !

Dear madam, To reply to your longest review ... The number of the cats are between 20-25! When you saw the cat in the room you should call reception to inform me about it! As you said it was a friendly one but you preferred to throw everything on it than take it out (probably you touch only your own pets)! The mosquito net had a big hole - I don't think a mosquito can do it! Also there was a hole in the shower door as you mentioned! Unfortunately previous customer didn't mention anything about both damages and had no time to replace them! I checked the walls and ceiling - were clean (despite your opinion), also the bin under the kitchen was clean (despite your opinion)! Cause you had all these problems you should come down to reception next morning and inform me about it! During your stay I only saw once during your arrival! Your husband came to check-out, I asked him about the mini-bar cause some ... nice customers forget to mention it!!! I'm a human - not a robot and if I forgot to give him the passport back (he forgot to ask it)! I operate this hotel for the last 23 years and unfortunately I cannot satisfy everyone! You mentioned that you are hard workers - try to work non-stop for 5 1/2 months (no weekends) and for 17-19 hours daily ... It's a huge difference!

The rooms are large and airy with plenty of wardbrode and drawer space. The beds are the most comfortable I've had in Europe for years. The decoration was old fashioned, circa early eighties, no modern hotel chain decoration here, but it has character. Our room was painted in a pale sky blue and I know another room is painted pale pink. The room also has air con and room safe included in the price. There was a TV but we didn't use it. The bathroom has everything you need including an enclosed shower cubicle rather than the usual shower curtain that doesn't really work. Shame about the brown tiling though. The kitchen area has everything you need for a holday. We didn't use the cooking rings or the grill, but toaster and kettle worked well.In the fridge freezer the owner offers a minibar facilty which we thought was priced similar to the supermarkets in the area.
The large balcony is where this place scores big time The fabulous view is across the bay to the headland with lighthouse. Behind this you see the island of Lefkas, then panning right is Meganissy, then Ardouki followed by Ithaka. Behind all this are the mountains of mainland Greece.
There is a lift that works well but is primitive.
The apartments are about a 10 minute walk into the centre and almost on the edge of Fiskardo. We thought this was perfect as it enjoys complete quiet at night ( pretty quite during the day too). They are also about 10minutes from the picturesque Foki Beach.
Would we stay again? absolutely, we'll probably book again for next year.

We have visited the island several times, but this time we decided to travel around Kefalonia and stay in different places and areas for a minimum of 2 nights.

On arriving we was greeted by the owner that allowed us to leave our baggage in reception as we arrived early.

When we came back we were shown to our room. The first thing you notice is the view, definitely no complaints there - stunning.

The room itself was a good size, but very rundown and dated. The dusky pink walls were covered in stains and it generally felt very tired and unloved.

There are many signs "don't do this and don't do that" adorning the walls and doors. The bathroom is very dark and needs updating. There is a fridge where you can purchase a beer etc - which is a nice thing.

The main reason for my poor score is.
1. The smell of cat poo is overpowering as you come up the stairs, where the large amount of cats defecate in the flower beds. Now I love animals and have 3 dogs myself, but I spend the time cleaning up after them!

2. The reason I love Kefalonia and Greece is the freedom from restrictions and the extra mile people go to. Oh no not here. On our last day we had awoken early as we were off to the next place on our road trip. My husband went to settle the bill and asked if we could have a cup of coffee and possibly a piece of toast. The frosty reply was "As breakfast was not pre-ordered then, NO" - it was only a bit of bread and a coffee!!

The owner is obviously a business man, but I sadly I feel that he has lost sight of why many people come to Greece. Just having a great view is not a USP in Kefalonia. You can get the same view 2 doors down with a lovely owner, bright room and no cat poo!

Dear Madam, Our hotel has regular customers every year who can say if our rooms are in good conditions! The bathrooms need renovation and will be fixed in the future! I am animal lover and I’m trying to give food to 12 cats & 3 kittens. Of course I cannot teach them to have a specific place for WC … I think the dogs can do better for this matter! I’m sorry if the notices… Please don’t take the towels to the beach (we provide you on request beach towels free) or the notice … Please close the doors and windows when you operate air-conditioning or the notice … Please don\t throw papers in the toilet ! ! ! So, if you think that you can do whatever you like in our country are wrong ! ! ! Please respect Greece - as the Greek people respect you! We serve continental breakfast on request (you must order in advance) because I cannot obliged you to pay extra for breakfast when you have a fully equipped kitchen! Your husband asked for breakfast – therefore I could make him a coffee or a toast!

The apartments are located about a 20 minute walk from the main area / restaurants of Fiscardo, pretty apartments up a few steps, friendly staff and lovely spacious rooms with amazing views of the port and Fiscardo. Lots of cats too, which was fine with me!
Would recommend and stay here again

We stayed in Fiscardo for two nights at Stella Apartments and found them to be perfect for our needs. Great views of Fiscardo and the mountains of Ithica from our balcony. The area is beautiful and well worth another visit. We will be going back to Stella at some point, the breakfast is good, free wi-fi, large communal tv and Antonis the owner is very helpful. The self catering style rooms are a good size and have all that you need should you want to cook your own food. Recommended.

The location was perfect, the photo's do not do the views from the rooms justice. Antonius (the owner) was very accommodating, often advising us on all the places to see, where to eat and how to get around the island. I wouldn't stay anywhere else if visiting Kefalonia, a great base with surrounding beaches. Foki Beach was a short walk and nearby you could drive to Emblisi Beach, Assos and the stunning Myrtos Beach in quick time but there are numerous little coves to explore and get lost in. The room was great, spacious and had all the modern 'home' comforts - satellite TV, Hairdryer and Saefty Deposit Box. We intend returning in September.

Cause there is no good bus service I will advise you either take a taxi (the tariff is around 80 euros one way) or arrange a car hire during your stay. Kefalonia is a big island and a car is a must if you want to explore it!
