We stayed here for our 25th wedding anniversary and all we can say is WOW. Excellent base for the day trips to Kruger, wrap up warm tho for Jeep trip at 5am! The family run lodge was what made this such a special occasion (other than the Safari!). The whole family got involved and we were made to feel like part of them. Having everyone sitting together to eat was a great touch as we chatted and traveled with Canadians, Dutch, Americans, Australians and Italians!

The food was great and sitting under the tree for outside evening meals just added to ambiance. The rooms were huge and very comfortable and you must get to the viewing deck at dusk to watch sunset over the Drakensburg mountains.

Can't recommend this place any higher - well worth the visit and a great family to stay with.

Thank you for your friendly review and for taking the time to write the review. We apologise for the late response. We are the new owners since February 2020, we have made numerous changes to the lodge including a restaurant and deck overlooking the waterhole and welcome all our guests around the new boma. The new restaurant and deck ensures that everybody gets beautiful sightings of the animals on a regular basis. Much appreciated Sunset Management.

Sunset Lodge 4 days on safari in the Kruger National Park and we have slept in Sunset Lodge a cozy Lodge with good staff. Outdoor dinner with Campfire, was excellent. Funny stories with the other safari guys.
The lodge is lying in the concession, there we had a morning and evening game drive. It was great to see the rhino in real, yes yet though. Hope that poachers stop. Sex don't make me laugh those Chinese know nothing of being great tall protozoa, where we really care.
Sunset Lodge also has a terrace, where you can enjoy the zebras and ostriches and other animals. Really great to sit here.
The rooms were large a fine shower a table with coffee, tea, milk and sugar, and of course a kettle. If you in August to the Kruger Park is going to do or a warm coat, because it's really cold. Especially if you are on an open car that wind it seems net or 10 degrees below zero.

My cousin brother and I stayed at this gem of a place on our visit to Kruger National park from Aug 13-18. A family run establishment. Managed by Wayne and Edwina. They were kind and attended to all our needs. Excellent hosts. Met their children too. Lovely little lodge. 6 rooms. Comfortable and clean rooms. Cleaned daily and even waxed floors daily! The food was delicious and we had a variety of food daily plus a BBQ on Sunday. Room staff and cooks were kind and efficient. Room staff arranged everything absolutely perfectly. Beautiful upper deck for meals, relaxing, and watching game. Wayne and Edwina took care of us very very well. Unlike in a big hotel, where nobody knows anybody, this family run lodge is a great place to stay. Felt at home at all times. Thank you Wayne and Ed. The game drives by our guide Kylie were awesome. She is kind, knowledgeable, a great guide and fun to be with. Thank you Kylie. This place is a place I'd recommend thoroughly to anybody visiting Kruger park. My sister is already planning her trip. Thanks again all staff at the Lodge!

After a long journey to Sunset Lodge a very warm welcome from Wayne and his family made us feel at home at once.Wayne even knew about Monkey Hanging in our home town.
There are 6 rooms which are all very clean and comfortable, with large bathrooms. As it was winter when we visited the heaters were more than welcome.the food is home cooking but very, very, good.Dinning is in the Boma, dinning area or on the deck .this is a dependant on weather and number of guests.
You are reminded of what you are scheduled to do the next day each evening and then to bed. There is a bar which is on the honour system.
The staff are all helpful and John and Shoes are so knowlegable and can spot an animal in the bush befor it is there
We cannot praise the lodge enough and recommend it to every one who wishes to safari
The only downside to our safari was the very early start,5.30 and the cold morning.Five layers and two blankets and we still froze!Open top transport is the way to go.

Themba Sunset Lodge is one of several accommodation options within Guernsey Private Reserve but it's got to be one of the best. From lunch in the garden upon arrival, welcome drinks when we came back from safari through to checking out the next evening everything was great!

Wayne and Ed were fabulous hosts, their children were also great and the meal I shared with my fellow safari guests was delicious. Overbooking meant I had to move to different accommodations on my second night (equally as lovely) but it would have been nice to enjoy another meal with the Sunset family.

You see lots of animals just driving to the lodge from the "main" road but what really made this place such a hit with us were the remarkable people. Wayne and Edwina (Ed) were so friendly, helpful, informative and accommodating that we would have loved to stay longer than the 3 nights we were there. Their children are so courteous and a delight. We left (reluctantly) with such happy memories.

We booked our safari to Kruger through Themba tours and opted to stay at their lodge. We were not disappointed! Such a beautiful lodge! The decor, the grounds, all spectacular. Clean and the staff were polite and welcoming. The couple who run the lodge, Edwina and Wayne were exceptional. Kind and welcoming and made sure we had the absolute best experience possible. They stayed and chatted with us into the evenings and we felt as though we got to know them. We learnt so much about South Africa, the marvelous country that it is. They work very hard and it was so lovely to stay with them. Their kids were also kind and polite. The day we arrived was my birthday and their daughter baked me a delicious special birthday cake, which was above and beyond.
Would undoubtedly stay at Sunset again. Cannot wait to go back, hopefully one day soon!

Having a preconception of our ideal safari experience being like the tv series wild at heart !!!!
Themba Safari 5 Day staying at Themba Sunset Lodge did not disappoint. Everything had been taken care of from being picked up at the airport, taken to their halfway house where we stayed overnight to recuperate from long flight and prepare for six hour drive to Sunset Lodge where we spent the next five days living the safari dream (afternoon/evening game drive, day safari x2 at Kruger National Park, visit animal rehab centre, nature walk) to sadly being driven back to the airport via the beautiful scenic Blyde River Canyon.
Our room at Sunset Lodge was spacious, clean with large ensuite bathroom, the main lodge had a large dinning room, upstairs bar and seating area that looked out onto waterhole where we had the pleasure of a nightly visit from the zebras including their new born baby and morning visits from grumpy ostrich and occassional girraffe.
All meals were beautifully cooked with varied african traditional dishes offered in a different setting each night.
All the staff were outstanding Dirk and Jonathan were superb hosts, John our driver/ Kruger Guide has amazing animal spotting skills his knowledge of the animals and their habitat was exceptional.
A big thank you to the wonderful ladies who cooked and cleaned for us throughout our stay.
Edwina, Wayne and your wonderful children thankyou for giving us the african safari experience we were looking for everything exceeded our expectations. I left with a tear in my eye !!!
To anyone thinking about a safari trip this place is a must .....

I felt that we arrived as guests and left as friends. Edwina and Wayne were on hand for everything and nothing was too much trouble.
The rooms and bathrooms are spacious and comfortable .
There is a lovely deck where you can watch the sunset and see the zebras and giraffes feeding. It really is magical.
The safaris were superb with John as our guide. He was informative and we managed to have good sightings with him. We will have to come back to see the leopard as the only one of the Big 5 that we didn't see.
The meals on the deck or in the dining room were delicious and thank you to Mumsy and Tiyans as well as Lily for her amazing desserts.
The organisation was perfect and a real pleasure to return after a long day and be greeted so warmly by Edwina and Wayne.
The BBQ on the last evening was also magical with the open fire prepared by Wayne and the great food.
A BIG thank you to everyone mentioned as well as our drivers Bongani and Solly and the children who were charming. A memorable and heart warming visit.

It is at least a one hour drive to the park gate(at 5a.m.) and then a 20-30 minute wait for administration and registration. At the end of day, another one hour + back to the lodge.
