We had a perfect stay at Sunset Game Lodge. Friendly people, very nice rooms, gym and swimming pool. The food tasted very good. When you are lucky you can see de buffalo’s or other animals nearby, really nice. Thank you so much for everything.

We had a brilliant stay at Sunset Lodge and Safaris. The room was great, with opportunities to watch wildlife at night. The personal care of Vincent and Toni and their staff went above and beyond. Their game drive and walking safari were memorable experiences. Every meal was a small party. Thank you for this excellent experience. We hope to return one day.

Thank you for your friendly review and for taking the time to write the review. We apologise for the late response. We are the new owners since February 2020, we have made numerous changes to the lodge including a restaurant and deck overlooking the waterhole and welcome all our guests around the new boma. The new restaurant and deck ensures that everybody gets beautiful sightings of the animals on a regular basis. Much appreciated Sunset Management.

We did 5 Day Sunset Big Five Safari in June 2015. Everything (transports, safari, accommodation, food, service) worked as planned and scheduled. We also were lucky with the animals in Kruger and we saw the big five and even more.
If you go there in June take warm clothes - it is cold in the mornings when it is 5 degrees and you sit in an open vehicle. During the day it was warm.
We definately give 10 points to Themba and we really can recommend Them.

I had a great time here; the rooms were large and airy with good AC, bathroom had bath and walk in shower and it was always clean and tidy. The dining room and communal area was a large open room with double ceilings and lots of local art, never got to watch the TV (busy thing).
The upstairs bar and deck got a bit more use we saw Giraffe (5), Zebra (3) and ostrich from the deck. I did not use many of the facilities as I was just so busy.
The tours themselves were just amazing, both of our guides (Shoes and Kylie (2) ) were very knowledgeable about where the animals hang out. habits etc. it was obvious how hard they tried and how much they wanted to see everything. We had some amazing sightings, my favourites include a herd of elephants (about 10) crossing the road not 100 yards in front of us, a herd of about 100 Cape Buffalo arriving at the water hole and the interaction that occurred with the Bull Elephant that was there. The lions feeding and so much more. No two tours are the same so you just have to accept what you get; I know how lucky I was to see so much activity as these are wild animals and there is no guarantee what you will see.
I have never stayed in a family run Lodge before but it was a good time, the family were helpful and friendly, I would go again.
Hints:
1. I was there in winter and It can be cold in the mornings at 05:30; so think layers
2. Have plenty of memory cards.
3. The bigger the lens the better it is.
4. Keep your eyes open on the road from the main road to the hotel (about 20 minutes) I saw 8 lions, 2 hippos, 3 or 4 Giraffe and other animals

Hope this helps.

I could not speak more highly of Wayne and Edwina, not to mention their wonderful children completing a lovely atmosphere for our experience. They were all extremely courteous and very welcoming.
We booked Themba Tours for a 3 day/2 night day safari and stayed at this lodge for 2 nights. The food was good and the highlight was the excellent Braai dinner around the fire on our last night.
The room was just perfect for that quiet and comfortable place to crash after long days of driving. I wasn't expecting wifi as we were in the middle of nowhere, but we had free access to the network.
We even stumbled across some resident zebra, monkeys and giraffe in the lovely surrounds of the lodge.
These guys are doing a great job and certainly made our experience of Kruger and surrounds, one to remember.

Ok, first the staff - Wayne and Edwina were extremely nice, helpfull, flexible, friendly, knowledgeable... So so welcoming and making us feeling like at home. It was even better with their kids around, they're super polite and cute. We felt like we were at home and had mom and dad waking us up, giving us breakfast, taking us out, bringing us back home, cooking us dinner... We did not have to worry about a thing, it was so relaxing. The place itself is beautiful and comfortable, and the terrace upstairs is such a nice place to have a cold drink in the evening while looking at the zebras in the garden :) and plus it was really not expensive compared to most other places we checked! Perfect spotless experience, i will miss it!

It is at least a one hour drive to the park gate(at 5a.m.) and then a 20-30 minute wait for administration and registration. At the end of day, another one hour + back to the lodge.
