This was the only place we went to in South Africa where we were not affected by load-shedding because they owners have solar panels and wind turbines. I make a point of saying this because being at Sunset Lodge and Safaris was the only time where we didn't have to worry about not having power during our whole trip. Huge kudos to the owners for their sustainable and practical attitude!

Of course, there are the many other boons to being there - the fabulous owners who cannot do enough for you, the huge rooms, tastefully decorated. They have just built two new rooms which give you more of a bush feel, still luxurious but very rustic. the most amazing food (shoutout to the homemade tomato jam and the best homemade chocolate brownies I have ever had!) , fabulous game drives and, best of all, the wildlife: Buffalo, giraffe, zebra, bushbuck, warthog, impala, all coming right up to the lodge. They are not tame as the lodge owners make a point of not feeding them, but you get the chance to see them close up but safely.
This place is a whole experience that I encourage everyone to have in their lifetime!

We did see a lot of wildlife in the krugerpark. At the lodges you can see giraffes, zebra's and many more...how exciting is it to go the breakfast and meet all these animals. Toni and Vincent do everything they can to make sturen that you have a good experience. They can provide the transportation from the airport to the lodge and they make sure that the excursions are arranged. Breakfast is included but for a small price they will cook diner also....realy 10 out of 10.

We were in October in South Africa and had the pleasure of staying for a week at the Sunset Game Lodge.
As we set our foot on the property, we were captivated by its natural beauty and the surroundings.
Our room was spacious, well decorated and we loved it's natural charm. We were surprised every morning by the wild animals passing right by our terrace, including warthogs, giraffes and buffalo.
The incredible level of service provided by the staff and the hosts Vince and Toni, was another highlight of our stay. Their graciousness and attentiveness made us feel special. We loved hearing about their local insights, culture or just simple engaging in their conversation.
Every day the hosts created a menu according to our wishes including vegetarian and meat options. They even joined us at table outdoors for the meals, which was simply phenomenal.
We enjoyed the pool and a great variety of the activities such as the Bush walk, Game Drive, Mariepskop Mountain and Blyde River Canyon.
To conclude we were left with beautiful memories of Sunset Game Lodge and its fascinating location but also a deep appreciation and connection with these gracious hosts and their staff.

My wife and I brought the whole family on our honeymoon. From young to old, we all had a great time at Sunset: amazing wildlife, stunning landscapes, beautiful rooms, excellent food and local expertise provided by Vince, Toni and the team.

The lodge itself is beautiful, with stunning views of the Drakensberg mountain range. The rooms are all decorated immaculately, each with their own design. The kids loved the pool. There’s a well equipped gym for when you realise you over indulged at dinner the night before. And the high level viewing deck means you can see further into the bush to spot the wildlife.

Vince and Toni organised all our excursions, including big 5 safaris in the Kruger, quad biking wildlife trips, small aircraft sight seeing flights etc. But the personal touch provided by the team on walks around the lodge were the best, allowing you to get up close and personal with termites, zebras, impalas, trees, plants and even different animal dung!

Each night, amazing food was served, sitting on the patio, sometimes just a few yards away from warthogs, buffalo and nyalas. We had some lovely evenings watching the meat cook on the braai, with a glass of wine as the sunset.

The kids loved it and were kept entertained even when their attention span for nature started to wain (translation: the wifi always worked).

The older folks amongst us truly appreciated the different world you step into when you stay at Sunset. The beauty of the place is matched by the knowledge that the team provide and the support they provide in arranging all your trips.

We had a family holiday at Sunset Lodge in October 23. From the moment we arrived at the lodge, where we were welcomed with traditional African singing, we knew we'd chosen the right place. The lodge is luxurious and spacious whilst retaining the spirit of real Africa. Vince and Toni are wonderful hosts, and arranged various trips and safaris for us whilst we were there. The pool is fantastic, the rooms are spacious and well appointed, and the food (cooked by the wonderful Beauty) is to die for.

You are right in the middle of nature. We saw giraffe, zebra, buffalo, warthogs - all from the comfort of the lodge. It really is quite surreal having breakfast with a family of giraffe stood only feet away! We also went on game drives, again organised by Vince, where we saw leopards, lions and rhinos. The Jubulani elephant sanctuary is also close by, and whilst it's an early start I advise you not to miss it. Really an incredible experience!

Nice atmos all round really. Already looking at dates for next year.

Very relaxing stay. I prefer to sit and relax but if I was so inclined there were plenty of activities available for booking.
Vincent and Toni are very knowledgeable about the surroundings and wildlife and are very accommodating. It is very unusual and pleasant to have the owners sit down and have their meals with you. The food is great and you are well looked after.
Will definitely visit again if I am in the area.

We stayed 3 nights at the lodge. Our stay was simply perfect. The hosts are amazing and you'll get some of the best food you ever tasted. We did 3 safaris, organised by the hosts, and managed to see almost all animals we wanted to see, and even more. Would definitely recommend.

The minute you set foot in the lodge you feel 'at home' in the most natural and authentic surroundings. Toni and Vincent are perfect hosts who hit the perfect balance between offering privacy and drawing you into their lodge, the bush and stories of the Guernsey Reserve. Drinks at sunset, super wonderful meals, healthy, full of fresh vegetables and whatever takes your fancy and never over the top. That is what makes this place to special, you get the best of what South Africa has to offer, not a copy of home life.

We woke up, rolled over and watched the giraffes from out bed taking a leisurely morning walk and drinking in the waterhole we were looking out on. Warthogs next, then 'lady Gaga' the ostrich and her followers. And all that before breakfast. Do go on the early morning bush walk, Vincent knows and shares anything worth knowing, do go on a bush drive and sundowners and discuss anything else you'd like to do with them. When Vince and Toni organise it, it will be done from AAA to ZZZ and beyond.

Finally, do book the safari style 'camping' lodge if you can. Overnight you hear the bush sounds, smell the air and wake up IN Africa whilst having good showers (in and outdoor) and a comfy bed.

This was my first proper trip into the bush and I didn't really know what to expect. I think Toni and Vincent and the Sunset lodge setting has ruined any future stays anywhere in the bush! Braai-ing on an open fire while watching Zebra, Warthogs, Impala, tortoise, Ostrich pass through was something else! The welcome was very friendly and informative, the service and food was excellent. The rooms are well equipped and luxurious. The local knowledge and insights provided by Toni and Vincent really helped expand our knowledge of the surrounds, the flora, the fauna and the lifestyle of the area.
I would highly recommend the Sunset lodge as an experience. We will definitely be back!

Our time at Sunset Lodge & Safaris was absolutely wonderful. Toni & Vincent went above and beyond to make sure that we felt welcome and comfortable. We came over Christmas and had the apparently unusual experience of having several rainy days during our visit. But this didn’t stop us from having a wonderful time, as Toni and Vincent helped us arrange weather appropriate activities. The lodge itself was a comfortable and calm place to relax when rain did cancel our events.
The guest rooms were exceptionally comfortable and well appointed. They had air conditioning units (if needed) which we found that all places in SA do not, so thats a nice option to have. The food served daily was delicious and healthy. The grounds are beautiful and you can observe many animals from the lodge itself while eating outdoors or relaxing on the rooftop deck. I hadn’t realized there was a gym and it was just perfect.
Our family is already talking about a return trip.

Dear Kate and Family, we cannot wait for your return visit. The games and visits with your family will not be forgotten. Even the trip into the Kruger with our SUV (Because of the rain we could not use the Open Safari Vehicle) was an event, as the enthusiasm from everybody made the day what it turned out be! Thank you for your kind words, we appreciate each comment and can tell you from ourselves and the entire team here at Sunset Lodge and Safaris, it was great to have you here with us!

It is at least a one hour drive to the park gate(at 5a.m.) and then a 20-30 minute wait for administration and registration. At the end of day, another one hour + back to the lodge.
