My friend and I were walking by, and stopped in to have some coffee. We asked about dinner, and told them we were vegan. Maria said they could absolutely accommodate us, asked us how we wanted our tacos and said they would make a special trip to the market... WHAT?! AMAZING! So we came back for dinner that evening, and had some delicious veggie tacos. She even made us a special bean dip with house-made tortilla chips that were some how incredibly crunchy and chewy at the same time! THEN as we were getting ready to leave, THEY WALKED US HOME! They didn’t even know where we were staying, but the distance didn’t matter because they wanted us to get home safe! I wanted to cry because we felt so welcomed and cared about! I absolutely recommend coming here if you’re staying in Playa Marsella or Playa Maderas! Muchísimas gracias por todo! Servicio fenomenal!!

On booking.com the description of Villas Mexico says "each room and bungalow has a private shower and bathroom". Imagine my surprise when I arrived and mine (along with many other rooms) was cramped and did not. On top of this, I think the shared bathrooms were only cleaned once a day so they were pretty gross most of the time. Wednesday night the hotel ran out of water and the bathrooms went from gross to extremely nasty and unusable. One shower was working that evening, but it was semi-public with sort of 3/4ths coverage sliding door and facing the parking area. Workers from the hotel stood around and staring at my fiance as she washed off while the owner's wife stood at the door to protect her/play chaperone...it was awkward. The hotel insisted we pay 100% upfront two weeks before arrival (because it's high season) so we felt trapped once we got stuck there (and 3 other hotels we talked to nearby were at full capacity). Plus it's location is a 20 minute drive out of town so you're a bit stranded...you can't just walk away if you don't have a car. To be fair, the breakfasts were good, many of the staff members were pleasant, the deck area with pool table was nice, and I'm glad we stayed out at Playa Marsella and Maderas because they're beautiful beaches...but I just felt ripped off by the deplorable nature of the bathrooms. Also the wifi only works in the lobby and deck areas. Unless I missed something in the descripcion, it's false advertising.

Where do I start? We had a wonderful stay here! First off, Hernan was great to work with. He arranged transportation for us from Penas Blacas. He and the owner Alejandro gave us a tour of San Juan del Sur before we went to the villas and showed us some great places to see and things to do. The location cannot be beat. It is just north of busy San Juan del Sur, within a very short walking distance to the beach. We had a really nice room with a/c, updated bathroom, tv, ceiling fan, and comfortable beds. The food there was great! The chef is from Mexico and everything was delicious that we had from her. One morning she made some eggs with jalapenos and they were to die for. And breakfast was included! The service was outstanding, as Oscar was typically our server. He even made me a margarita when they stopped serving them. He really went above and beyond. They had nightly music was fun to listen to while sipping some cocktails. If you are daring enough you can even try some karaoke! Alejandro and Karla provided us with transportation when we left as well. They really do take care of their guests. I highly recommend staying here, as you will not be disappointed.

We went here for a dinner, had their daily special (3x mexican beef tacos and a drink of your choise) for only 150 cordobas. Very friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere (good music and barbecue/open fire). Much recommended.

I had the private deluxe room which is one of three separate mini houses each with private bath, AC, fan, two double beds and Cable Flat screen TV. Very comfortable, fully bug screened windows with louvres which allow fresh air in or can be closed for privacy. They also have hostal type accommodations which are in rooms with 2 to 4 beds each with fans. Those are priced at $15 per person but i understand they will be around $20 when high season kicks in. Those share bathrooms and breakfast is not included but available. My room was $45 ($75 in high season) but included the breakfast which was very nice. Its a typical Nicaraguan breakfast with rice and beans and two eggs and toast and coffee. They also can prepare a North American type breakfast for a couple bucks more and breakfast for rooms with no breakfast included is $5. They have an interesting area near the main kitchen where a group of up to 10 persons can rent that module with it own deluxe bathroom and its made up of 4 separate bedrooms with a living room with AC, fans and Cable flat screen TV. That one costs $200 and includes breakfast for 8 persons. The property is bordered by a small river which has its own resident gator called Pepe! They also have a wooden house at the other end of the property with nice gardens all around and this is where the hostal rooms are located on the first floor but on the 2nd floor they have a private area with 3 rooms (up to 10 persons) which has fans (no AC) and a living room area with big flat screen TV with cable and its own nicely equipped kitchen and a terrace area with seating accommodations. That whole 2nd floor goes for $150 but it shares bathrooms with the hostal rooms (no private bath). The WiFi is excellent throughout the property. They offer lunch and dinner menu and also have all types of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages for sale. They specialize in Mexican food dishes as the Owner is from Mexico and has a Nicaraguan wife who is co-owner. Its a fun place to be at and the service is excellent plus its close to the neat beach. I loved seeing sunsets and starry nights from that beach. The water in that beach is totally tranquil but there is a very good surfing beach next door. They don't have a pool currently but are putting one in in the next 4-6 weeks. They have free, secure parking side the place. If you don't drive over, a taxi is just 10-12 bucks from San Juan del Sur to the Hostal Villas Mexico property form what i overheard.
