Lovely large room in Central Clarens. Walking distance to restaurants and shops around the Central Square. Lovely welcome by staff and Owner. Large bathroom with both bath and free standing shower. Shower was especially good after long drive. Most refreshing. The beautiful blanket shop below our rooms was special and we were told about the meaning of the different emblems etc in the weaving.

Breakfast was basic but sufficient. Once again serving staff were most pleasant and helpful.

Many thanks to all who made our stay very comfortable and enjoyable.

A great luncheon!! Lamb Hamburger and chips-Awesome!!!!
The "pork" burger is also delicious and can be served with chips or a healthy salad.
Sue and Joanne are the perfect hosts and it is clear that they are passionate about food, customer service and Clarens!
I recommend a visit to this establishment, it is tops.

This was our second my second visit to 278, the first one being 3 years ago and the high standards have been maintained. The rooms are very comfortable ,well stocked with tea's coffee's and extra blankets for cold nights, though these were not needed in November. This time I could only find a few channels to watch on the TV so bring a good book. The hotel is strategically located at the end of the commercial activites on Main street. So fairly quiet but you can start your shopping and sightseeing right from the front door. That is if you can steal yourself away from the terrace from where it is fun to watch the passing parade.
Breakfasts menu is varied and delicious and dinner was excelent.

My friend and I stayed in the Black and White apartment. We had a great time. Had almost all our meals in the Restaurant. The meals were so tasty. Sue really made us feel at home. We will be back for an extended visit next time.

We had originally planned the trip for April and had to postpone which was sad as it would have been a lot nicer in the warmer weather! However the warm welcome from Joe Ann, the gas heater in the bedroom and the electric blanket all made up for the chilly season.

The huge bedroom offered all comforts even fresh milk for tea in the fridge.

The Olympic size bath tub plus shower with all the bath goodies was a treat.

We had breakfast in the restaurant and dinner on the Saturday night. Great ambience and cosy fire to accompany an excellent meal.

All in all a lovely break away. The town itself very quaint with loads are arty offerings which put my mind into all manner of new projects.

Many thanks to Sue and her team - we will be back I am sure.

Warm wishes

Pat & Reg Voss

278 on Main is well located, just off the main square, so it is close to all the restaurants but not the noise. The room was beautifully decorated and the bed was huge, really comfortable. The bathroom is also very spacious and has a warm feel to it (with nice hot water on demand!).

The room was also very reasonably priced for what we got - a nice sized comfortable room at a very good price

Breakfast was very tasty and good sized portions - we were full for a long time. However, the waitering staff was a bit slow and unattentive

Our room was in a small courtyard and if other guests were talking in the courtyard, it was a bit noisy - not well insulated for noise. Luckily, most visitors to Clarens don't make noise late into the night

My friend and I stayed at 278 on Main for one night on our way to Maseru, Lesotho.

We arived late and checked in - staff were helpful and we had our keys and were settled in our room in no time. It was a great place - the room was spotless and lovely and warm for when we arrived (it was a cold night!). Comfortable bed, tea and coffee in the room - absolutely no complaints.

If there was one element that could be improved slightly it was breakfast - it was quite basic and there weren't many options to choose from. But, the food was tasty and the staff were very friendly.

It is the perfect location - within walking distance to everything in the town of Clarens.

Would definitely stay there again!

Spent 2 nights this past weekend in the ruby room. The rooms are spacious, well furnished with a great bathroom. There is a ceiling fan, a floor fan, Gas heater and electric blanket. Very comfortable bed. Tea, coffee, milk provided. It is great to sit on the balcony and watch the people go by. The breakfast was also good. All staff and management are polite and effecient.
