The Hotel complex is situated in a magnificent place that provides the hosts with magnificent views. I found the hotel room to be quite narrow, though the view from its outside veranda like patio had a beautiful view over the mountains. The restaurant was not adequately lit (dim lights everywhere) giving me the impression of being in permanent darkness. Food was good though and that made the difference.

We have slept over at the hotel. Our room was unfortunately only prepared for one person with towels short in the bathroom and no coffee at the tea station. When we have mentioned this to the staff on departure, they have apologized profusely. The shower in the bathroom is out of this world with so much space! The food served in the dining room is of a good quality and is recommended. The staff is friendly and helpful.

This is a nice hotel with good food. We however stayed in a chalet which was not up to the standard that we expected or compared to the remainder of the hotel. The chalet had not been cleaned properly when we arrived, bins remained unemptied and the tea towel was wet through in a cupboard. Some of the equipment (hairdryer, toiletries and Kitchen equipment) was missing as was a bathroom shelf leaving the brackets sticking out. These issues were resolved but not immediately. The staff were ok but some seemed very unenthusiastic. I would have given 2 stars but for the kindness of one of the staff running us to our car after we had arrived at reception but a storm had broken out. If you intend to self cater be sure to bring all your provisions with you as it is difficult to even get the basics locally. Having said this, the area is stunning with beautiful rock formations and nice walks.

THE CHALETS ARE SUCH A DISSAPOINTMENT, THIS PLACE IS DISGUSTING. I CANNOT BELIEVE THEY TAKE PEOPLE'S MONEY FOR SUCH !!!We requested to be moved the first morning here because the sink in the bathroom got blocked, and the toilet would not flush properly,I was scratched open on my leg by a wire sticking out of the bed and I wasn't happy with the cleanliness. 2nd chalet WORSE!!!!!! THE MATTRESS SMELLS OF URINE. The sheets and carpets have stains, there is a funny smell the entire unit. I so want to go home, but I cannot disappoint my husband and daughter by leaving earlier than our departure date. The town and scenery is amazing, beautiful beautiful- but this place is dampening the mood. I overheard neighbours complaining about their toilet as well. I DO NOT ADVISE ANYONE TO BOOK THIS PLACE!!!!! A WASTE OF MONEY......

We visited The Golden Gate Hotel near Clarens close to Xmas . We brought along one child aged 9 and 2 grannies . So this was a real family holiday . The Golden Gate National Park is beautiful with views to die for. It’s untouched beauty is amazing . The peace and tranquility are for those who can appreciate nature at its very best. The Golden Gate Hotel is in the heart of the Park. It’s location perfect. But I was disappointed in the first hour of entering the Hotel. It’s reception staff give this beautiful place a bad name. They would benefit from going on a course on communication skills . They are rude and rigid in their thinking and would chase any customer away. Mr Isaiah in particular and MrMokena need to be moved to a different department as they certainly don’t belong as the face of this beautiful hotel. Firstly they disputed my online booking saying the child was not incl . Then allocated 2 rooms in the dungeon of the Hotel (5where 2 grannies needed to walk quite a distance . No consideration was taken for their ages . One of them nearly 83yr. It was as if doing an online booking was a crime and you will be punished for it. The manner in which they spoke was unprofessional condescending and really with no customer service in mind. The experience from beginning to end was unpleasant. Had it not been for Mr Vusi and Mr S Naidoo we would have returned home the same day. Going beyond the point of entry the service got better. The food at the hotel is amazing . It’s quality and freshness is to write about . The staff in the dining room make it pleasant . Heads up to Priscilla of the restaurant and her staff. Some of the rooms have been renovated and others not. Just a few attention to detail would make this place amazing . So get some new young fresh minds in your point of entry and a new face to this Hotel . WiFi in 2020 is a necessity not a. Privilege . Some attention to detail and you might see a different Hotel with numbers visiting here increasing. Yilmaz Family
