Loved this place. We only stayed 1 night as part of a road trip but couldn’t have been made to feel more welcome.
They helped us Re plan our route to KZN and had lots of knowledge to impart.
Our room was very comfortable and warm, which was needed on a cold winters night.

Will be back

Arriving in Clarens at 4.00 pm we found an accommodation bureau just on the main square.
They organised the booking for 2 nights as we wanted a day in Lesotho.
What an excellent choice. Wife’s sister stayed in Music room, large very clean and comfortable. Shower spotless.
Wife and I in Nature room next but one. This is a huge room with massive double bed and upholstered window seat/bed to the bay window.
The owner was very helpful both in terms of the places to eat in town (see also my reviews of The Highlander and Grouse and Claret restaurants) but more importantly how to get into and out of Lesotho.
Where to head to and how to navigate round.
Back to Aspen its all on the ground floor, delightful gardens with patio doors leading to parking areas and the gardens. The location is right up against a magnificent sandstone rock face with a walking trail.
You are asked to complete a form for you following days breakfast. This works really well and great choices.
The only down side is the dirt road 300 metres from the metalled town square but a real bounce in a small rental car.
Would have walked but for the torrential rain and thunder on both evenings. This did not put us off. Really nice town though expensive.
All things considered really glad we found Aspen and can highly recommend.
Sorry not have photo’s but using my I pad.

Great location, within walking distance to Clarens square. Owners are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent. There is a communal fridge and microwave available. We enjoyed our stay at the foot of the mountain

A recent visit to Aspen was very disappointing.

Overall the place was dirty and not at all maintained, linen not what you can expect in a guesthouse and specialy the pillows horrible dirty......did not use the pillows....if there were any other accommodation available then the booking was cancelled but there was a function and no other suitable accommodation available on short notice.

It took me a while to write this review because I desperately wanted to rate this property better then what I did. I rely heavily on Tripadviser's members' reviews when planning my holidays, so, at the end, I felt that I should write this review and be as fair as possible with it.
The reason why I personally wanted to rate it better is the owner of Aspen Guest House, who is really, really nice. She accepted our one night booking during a very busy long weekend when everything in Clarens was jam-packed. She did not even requested us to pay a deposit to confirm our booking and kept accommodation available for us. When we arrived it was almost impossible to find place to eat that was not already fully booked for the evening, but she found a table for us in rather nice restaurant. The guest house has a great location, very close to the village centre, but still on a doorstep of the mountains. We adored her dogs. What we have seen of the house itself, it is very artistic and quirky, with loads of character.
After all the praises, I come to the point where I have to justify the low rating. We were accommodated not in the guest house, but in the larger of two adjacent self-catering cottages. I have not seen the bedrooms at the main house, but the cottage is no match to the rest of the it. It felt like it was furnished with hand-downs, especially the living area. It was well equipped for self-catering purposes, but staying one night only, it was not what we needed. That night was very cold and all the heaters could not bring the room temperature anyway close to pleasant one. We were thankful for electric blankets. Bed in the main bedroom was comfortable and that room is the best part of the cottage. Level of the cleanliness was not unacceptable, but left a lot of space for the improvement. I would advise anyone to opt for the main house, when staying in Aspen Guest House. In my opinion, even with all the negatives mentioned, this property provides a good value for money.

Aspen in well situated in the village and is in beautiful surroundings. The hosts were delightful. The rooms were poorly appointed, cluttered and musty. The only word to describe the breakfast is weird. Very expensive after spending the night before at five star accommodation in Clarence which was only slightly more expensive.

I have been to Clarens many times and stayed in quite a few guest houses/ b&bs there and then I found Aspen. It's become my go to place whenever visiting Clarens. It's a lovely artistic guest house with large, comfortable rooms. So far I've stayed in the Writer's Room, the Artist's Room and the Music Room, each is decorated according to it's theme and all are inspiring. The large lounge with a log fire is a welcoming and friendly place where guests seem to gather in the evenings and the breakfasts are always good. Situated just out of the centre of town, it's peaceful even in peak times but still close enough to walk to all the wonderful shops and restaurants.

We arrived @ 08:00 on Saturday morning after making a booking the previous night because our accommodation was not suitable and Ale greeted us with open arms, had a room available where we could put our things down and offered us some tea to settle in. She gave some great suggestions and info on what to do. The room was exquisite and clean. Breakfast was great and the entire stay very pleasurable.

Been to Clarens so many times before and have never stayed at the Aspen before ... am so glad we stumbled upon this venue ... with an amazing host ... we stayed in the Artist Room ... beautiful... the breakfast was great ...esp.cos you have choices if you are a vegan/vegetarian ... think all the rooms have their own entrance... ours did ... parked our vehicle right outside the door ... esp.if you have lots to carry in ... location is also great ... only a few mins walk into the main square ... but we loved this accomodation most due to its location ... at the foot of the mountain ... what a view.. wow ! We would def. stay at the ASPEN again 👍
