The lodge is under completely new ownership and has changed its name to Letsatsi Mountain Lodge. Please ignore old reviews about previous owners. We had the most incredible weekend at Letsatsi. We were a large group and had 10 kids under the age of 7 and it was absolute paradise for the kids. There is so much to do on the farm and around the area. The hosts Claudine and JP went above and beyond throughout the weekend and made us feel so relaxed and welcome. The food is incredible - Claudine is an experienced chef. We will be back soon!

Room Tip: Book the fully catered option if you can, the food is amazing. Ask for a sunset game drive.

The 2 hour horse ride at Bokpoort is not merely an outride but rather an experience that will be remembered for years to come. We went twice during our visit to Clarens as we enjoyed it so much. It’s certainly a rough and tough situation but a thrill for the adventurous.

The "road" to bokpoort is poor, but navigable. The horse riding is great fun in Western style saddles, the scenery amazing and galloping across the rolling grasslands gives you a true cowboy experience.

For the price and work they're put through , I would have expected the horses to be better fed. The bits are also very harsh and seemingly unnecessary given how well trained the horses are. The riding at Golden gate seems better value at only R100 for an hours ride.

We were a family of 9 that booked horse riding at Bokpoort. We were promised a discount because of the group booking. My 72 year old dad opted out so we were 8. The discount was reversed and we ended up paying more for 8 people than we would have for 9people. The lady helping us was very rude, arrogant and unfriendly. One of the kids riding with us fell off the horse because the saddle was not tight enough and slipped as we were galloping. After the ride she did not check on him or even apologize for their negligence. Neither did we receive any apology from the guide. A very disappointing experience. Absolutely low standard of service!

The Golden Gate area is the perfect backdrop to a scenic horse ride. Imagine our disappointment when my husband's horse Diamond collapsed under him 10 minutes into the ride. The farmhand who had taken us out seemed unfazed and said the horse had been 'sleeping'. In 30 years of riding I have never come across horses who sleep while they're walking. That was also the last interaction we had with our guide, who turned to his cellphone and cigarette pack for entertainment for the rest of the ride. My request to slow down also fell on deaf ears.

What a pity! Lots of unexploited potential!

I recently visited Bokpoort farm and my excitement to engage in the farms activities was quickly wiped away. The 3.5km road leading to the ranch is not suitable for cars. There is poor signage leading to the ranch and when you enter the ranch. No staff present when you enter to direct you. When I managed to find the reception area, There was no receptionist. The owners wife had a bad attitude and was unfriendly. After having her two dogs charge at me, she was upset at me briskly moving away from her dogs, which she verbally directed at me. While she was taking off at me for moving away from her dogs, she managed to smash my toddlers hand between two glass doors in her rage. When my daughter finally hot onto a 'horse', we were told that we should hold the horse and lead it around. The carer for the horse told us that he is too busy to lead the horse around. After getting upset at him, he eventually agreed to lead the horse. The pony ride is R100 for 30 minutes and this farm does not have a person to lead the ride. It isn't some cheapie pony ride, where it can be accepted that you will lead your own horse. As you walk through the farm you experience a terrible stench in the air. There is a pit for the toilets that isn't properly covered. The horses fur are in a bad condition. They look as though they have not been brushed in ages. The owner walks around with guns. They claim to own the land on the mountain, that is part of the Golden Gate National Park. They hunt the animals on these mountains and practice shooting in an open space on their farm. I was surprised to hear that the animals are being hunted in an area that should be conserving nature. This experience left me very upset and I could not get out of there soon enough.

After being on the road for 5 hours (and we were told we can book in any time)...we arrived just after 14h30. A man....who i found out afterwards was one of the owners did not welcome us but pointed me to the bar where a youngster worked. He had no idea that we booked and in which chalet. I was then told that our chalet has not been cleaned yet and we had to wait. After a while Helena the owner arrived and she said that its not her fault that she is short staffed and the previous people left late. Neither did she make us feel welcome or directed us to a place where we could at least wait. After more than an hour of waiting in the wind and dust she then asked if she can offer us something to drink. At that stage I felt so unwekcome that I requested my money back, which she did but only after slamming a door and telling her husband over the phone how its not her fault if the room is not ready and a guest is unhappy. Bokpoort you ruined a little girls horseriding week. Treat your guests better as it is them that keep you in business....or not!

In 2016 we arrived at the venue and my booking which I confirmed twice not in the book. Luckily it was the start of August so there was not a soul around and we could camp without any issue even tough we had no booking according to them. I was informed hat I did not have a booking even after I showed them the emails and sms as proof.

So, in 2017 I again book; I contacted them on the phone after a month as my 3 emails got no response. I was then asked to phone again in a weeks time as the book is not with them at the moment. I was not offered to be called back, or asked for my number or nothing. I phone back and made my booking, I even received a sms with confirmation.

I then delete the text accidently so I contact them just to confirm the dates as the booking was made a while before.

They then informed me that I have no booking in the book. I was then given the following reasons for the extremely poor service them same reasons i have read in complaints from other writers on Tripadvisor since 2015.

1. They are extremely busy, the phone rings non stop - I can't understand how this could be true on a remote farm in the middle of winter? Furthermore I don't understand how a extremely busy establishment never has the bookings book with them nor writes down any bookings?

2. They are a small Afrikaans business that can't afford a decent back office - Contradicting the first statement

3. I am the only one to which this ever happens too - Made to feel responsible for the same issues recurring in two years. I must also say people staying in a chalet in 2016 that we met there from Sun City had heaps of complaints regarding the meals they where suppose to get.

4. I will be writing a review on TripAdvisor - You are being so rude, that is completely uncalled for. I can tell you that I was extremely polite under the circumstances and never rude.

The best part was that I was never allowed to express my frustration or disappointment, it all seemed to be my fault. I must also say that the owners are extremely rude and do not take responsibility for any of there actions.

If you plan to take your caravan to Bokpoort, don't. Our Sprite Swing took hammering driving the dirt road. Granted the drought has taken it's toll on the road but we were not able to exceed 10kph on the road towing our Van. Ablutions is very very rustic. We like to camp in comfort and the ablutions is not. The stands are not level. It was really a struggle to get the Van level and mindless to say it was never level for the duration of our stay.
The positives are the friendly Christo and Helena owners. They make up for the negatives we experienced. It's horse country and if love that you are I'm the right place. We did not take part in other activities.

I can highly recommend doing the two hour horse trail on Christo and Helena's stunning horses; I had only ever ridden as a child at guest farms, about 40 years ago, and probably only a maximum of half a dozen times, but yearned to ride again. I was apprehensive about getting on a horse, never mind going on a horse back trail. They assured me that they would provide me with a suitable horse and Sultan was exactly that! Their farm has panaromic vistas, a once in a lifetime experience - well worth it.
I trotted, cantered, and galloped too-what an unbelievable experience.
