Bravely, Ursula and Frans allowed us to bring our two medium sized dogs along even though they are not a regular Pet Friendly establishment. We are so very grateful to them as it allowed us to enjoy all that Clarens has to offer. Daily walks around the village as well as the very well maintained trails along the mountain contours and streams.
Paradise for dogs and their humans!
Comfortable rooms, we provided our own beds for dogs. We enjoyed delicious breakfasts out on a balcony stoep as well as a lamb curry dinner including pompadoms for Africa !

Mount Horab is in walking distance of the village and all its wonderful shops, eateries, brewery and the craft beer festival we attended.
We enjoyed our stay in this beautifully appointed and charming sandstone guest house and its neatly manicured gardens....
Thank you Ursula, Frans, Matthew and schnauzers for your warm hospitality.

Fabulous stay. Frans and Ursula are amazing hosts. Their personalized touches made our stay so welcoming and warm and made us feel like VIP guests. The rooms are very clean and comfortable and we will definitely be booking with them again for our next visits.

Very spacious room and bathroom with large bathtub. Luxurious finishings and beautiful decor. Room also has table and chairs to sit on, and we even had plates/cutlery, coffee tea and rusks in the room. Breakfast was delicious. Ursula and Frans were great hosts - very friendly and hospitable. Bed/pillows were not that comfortable - that’s the only reason for giving 4 and not 5 because everything else was excellent. Vehicle with clearance recommended to access road.

Thank you for the awesome feedback. Sorry that you did not find the bed comfortable. In our industry we cannot have a library full of different mattresses for guests to try out before we make their bed. We bought the best industry standard memory foam mattresses money could buy. With all the rain we had, the grader just cannot keep up grading the roads in Clarens. Van Reenen being at a steep decline takes a beating with every rain drop. Next time stay on Main, left into Malherbe and left into Roos. Basically all tar, with just the last 200m in Roos perfect gravel.

Mt Horeb Manor B&B is an excellent choice for a relaxing and revitalizing stay. We received a warm welcome from our hosts (and they kept us informed about loadshedding during the weekend). Our spacious suite faced east with a full view of the prominent Mount Horeb close to Clarens and the other mountains further away. There are also north facing windows for a little sun during winter. We had a queen size extra length bed, as well as a comfortable couch in front of the huge windows and doors opening onto a stoep. Delicious breakfast is served in the room. We made use of the braai facilities - our friendly hosts supplied cutlery. If you don't know Clarens that well, do enquire about the walking trails close to town and discover the beauty and serenity of the eastern Free State!

We stayed at Mt Horeb Manor from 23rd to 27th December 2023. Our stay was simply superb! Our room at Mt Horeb was clean, comfortable and well maintained. The house is so well furnished which makes you feel like you are at home whilst on holiday. The garden is also so beautiful with the roses in full bloom and not to mention the apple and peach trees. The mountain views are amazing and one can spend hours just soaking in the peace and tranquility of the surrounding views. Our hosts, Sonia and Tinus were excellent and made sure we were made comfortable and enjoyed ourselves. They were also so kind to wait up for us on the day of our arrival due to a personal emergency which resulted in us arriving at 10 pm. Sonia and Tinus spent every morning with us at breakfast, chatting and interacting with all the guests. Breakfast itself was delicious with the option of either an English breakfast or an omlette. Both were equally good. Sonia also told us about the surrounding places we could visit and advised us on the surrounding towns, safety of the roads and places we could get dinner. And the added Christmas chocolates were a great personal touch. I highly recommend Mt Horeb Manor - you won't go wrong!!

Impressed by contact and communications from Ursula, very friendly, clean. Great location. Only minor irritation was covid restricted dining, which meant a dining table in room.
Guests are supervised by well behaved Schnauzers
All in all a place I thoroughly recommend

A most comfortable stay and a lovely welcome to charming Clarens. Ursula and Frank make their guests feel at home from one's arrival.

Another plus is that breakfast can be brought to ones room which was much appreciated.

Our room was spacious and well laid out and the bed was comfortable too.

Was accommodated on short notice and the room was stunning with nice treats. There is always assistance and guidance when enquiring about places to visit or where to eat out. The owners are very accommodating with motorcycles and trailer parking if required. The food is excellent.

Myself and 2 friends stayed over the Cherry Festival weekend and we were absolutely blown away, from the stunning grounds to the kindness of everyone who worked there! Mt Horeb is under new ownership and we had the pleasure of talking to the owners, who went out of their way to accommodate us. Sonia and her husband are the kindest people and will ensure that you have a very pleasant stay! Breakfast is included - it consists of cereal, then a hot meal and some filter coffee, the perfect way to start your day! Lauren the manager is very accommodating and offered to make us packed breakfast when we wanted to get up early for a hike.
The rooms are very spacious and clean with incredible views and little seating areas which are great to sit at and enjoy a cup of coffee. Mt Horeb is located very close to town and there is parking available on the property so if you want to park your car and walk it is very safe to do so.
They also have board games available which was so nice as it rained at night. Wifi was good as well! This is an absolute gem in Clarens and I highly recommend staying here, whether you're just wanting to have a relaxed time or if you're wanting to keep busy.
