We really enjoyed the beauty of this caravan park but the ablutions need SERIOUS attention. Although clean, I'm sorry to say guests should be given a refund for their stay because of dysfunctional ablutions.
There is one shower for the entire camp (the second one that is mentioned is nowhere in sight). The bath has not taps, the basin has no hot water or a mirror. The paint is peeling off the walls, there a re no hooks for your clothes while you use the depilated shower. and nowhere to wait your turn in a camp of 15 ladies for one shower. Have the owners ever gone to use these ablutions and deemed it ok for public use? My husband mentioned the men's bathrooms was just as dysfunctional. Being a new caravaner this was exactly my nightmare concerning ablutions......
It's disgusting that we paid extra being December and this was the ablutions offered to us. This establishment should be embarrassed to be associated to these ablutions.
Also the fighting geese drove us mad.We wont go back because of the ablutions, its unacceptable, some guests left the park to go to another park as these ablutions are not functional.......

We stayed in the Mountain Lodge Unit, everything we needed was there, it was clean, hot water, but the spectacular part was roaming anywhere on the farm with your dog companion. Road leading to the farm challenging need high clearance vehicles as stated on the website. Owners and staff very friendly. Only thing that did not sit well with me was the price on everything, wifi, cleaning, ice, 4x4 trails, wood, etc etc I would rather just make it all inclusive it just give more stars for hospitality, I'll pay more all inclusive than be charged for everything X-tra .... I did not opt for the cleaning fee but for a long weekend would have expected emptying of bins. But that is really the nitty gritty of it, I will defnitely go back in summer when it is green, the setting is just perfect for any nature lover, my dogs totally enjoyed it, next time I'll take my bike as well. Had a very good rest and came back to the city peacefull..... thanks

The surroundings are exquisite, and you will be treated to awesome mountain views and night skies full of stars. We also very much enjoyed being around the horses, foals, cows, donkeys and other farm animals. Our dogs had an amazing time running free down by the river.

We did have an issue with the resident jack russells 'breaking in' to the garden at The Lake cottage, but managed to fix up the gaps and tie the gate so that they could not slip through. This unit is right next to reception. The fence and gate at The Guard House were much more secure, so more recommended for dogs. This unit is also very private and relatively far from the other units.

Both units' kitchens were exceptionally well stocked; you will not want for anything. It is not the usual case of only four plates, forks and knives for a four-sleeper unit. The gas at The Lake was leaking so every time we used the stove/oven it filled the unit with a horrible smell. This was concerning and could pose a hazard. This unit's thatch roof was also covered in black plastic that flapped in the wind. Luckily there was no rain during our stay, but it's likely that the roof would leak in a downpour.
Our complaint with the Guard House was that the bed was very soft and uncomfortable, almost as though its springs had collapsed. This made sleeping difficult. The fridge also worked sporadically and made quite a loud noise when its fan was spinning. However, it was a real treat having a fireplace right next to the bed.

Keep in mind that the units are old and maintenance is an issue. The Guard House is particularly rustic. We also felt a little insecure that the door did not lock properly and only had a small latch inside to close it. A padlock is placed on the security gate's latch to make the unit more secure, but we felt that this could be improved.

It's also worth mentioning that the wi-fi does not work unless you are literally standing at reception. It was not available at The Lake, which is extremely close. Therefore, be prepared not to have phone signal or data anywhere around the farm unless you activate roaming.

Another tip is to ensure that you pack enough charcoal and firelighters for your stay. The barrel braais require a lot of charcoal (we used a whole bag per braai) and it's a long drive to Clarens to stock up.

Overall, we found it extremely relaxing, peaceful and restorative and didn't want to leave. It is the perfect place to escape from it all and kick back in nature.

Love the location, love the hospitality, loved the accommodation.
Showers behind the 12 sleeper needs some upgrading, but the showers at camping area were far better although a little bit of a walk to get there. Showers and view made it worth it.

We completely enjoyed our stay!

Our small dog (Scotty size) was safe in the enclosure (Lake unit) and enjoyed playing with the well socialised resident dogs.

Our unit was very clean and comfortable, especially the super soft beds.

The location is beautiful and the owner is always willing to help with anything and our communication was very clear and easy.

The last 3km is a dirt road. In some areas it is a bit rocky, but the road splits and you can choose the smoother road when dry. We were in a 4x2 Rav and we had no trouble.

Great stay overall. We would definitely like to visit again.

The camp site has a great view, ablution blocks are kept spotless and the entire farm is an amazing feast of outdoor activities. Lots to do and also just be able to sit and relax. The hostess is very kind and friendly, with lots of advise on hikes and nearby attractions. Definitely will be back soon.

We had booked the "wild camping" for only one night but the staff were still super helpful and accommodating. We arrived in a rain storm and they came to fetch us at a parking/pick up point for vehicles that weren't able to manage the road. We were very grateful because our vehicle would definitely not have made it. They also allowed us to camp in a genuine camping spot near the ablutions because a few were still available....so we didn't have to look for one in the rain. Thank you Ciarra and Patrick. Because of them, and despite the rain, we had a memorable time.

This is a mail I sent the establishment without any response.

We were disappointed with the place and left after 2 nights (not sure it was noted).
Maybe our expectations were too high since we expected a quiet tranquil place away from civilisation because of the remoteness and accessibility.
Unfortunately this is not what we got. The road works across the river every day from 7 in the morning till 5pm wiped out any chance of peace and quiet. I know it is out of your control but surely a warning would have been helpful.
After 5 pm there were a lot of noise coming from the staff side and the people staying in the accommodation right beneath our campsite and on the 2nd night this continued until about 1 am.
Must confess for the price we expected a better maintained ablution block that is in dire need of some paint and maintenance even though it was clean.
The camp site it self was nice and flat with nice grass, but that was about the only positive.

Fortunately we could move to Uithoek campsite at R300 per night, with lovely ablutions. Peace and quiet. Lovely views, and a much more well kept farm.

We stayed in Duiker cabin for the Easter weekend recently, the cabin only has space for the bed as we asked for the king size but the bed and duvet etc were very comfortable and we slept very well. We took our own small fridge which we put on the patio, there is no kitchen for the cabin and you use shared ablutions and washing up area - both of which are clean and well kept.
The views from the campground across to Lesotho are stunning, there are lots of horses either in a huge meadow area at the bottom of the hill or in paddocks and it was lovely to see the horses enjoying loads of space. The hiking trails were great, take all you need as the 3kms dirt road is quite hard on a non 4x4 car but definitely doable if you go slowly and carefully.
We would definitely recommend a visit to this beautiful, well run farm, thanks to Yvonne and Ciarra for making our stay very enjoyable.

Where to start...
The time I spent at Old Mill Drift was rejuvenating. It's an amazing location, without leaving the property you can be out exploring for hours. I could've spent a week there.
The farm is alive with all sorts walking around and going about their daily animal lives :)
The staff I encountered on property were all lovely and very helpful.
The wood supplied @R100, works wonders and it's plenty.
The chalet (Lake) has a beautiful view and everything you might need.
The road to the property was just fine for my car, a small Suzuki Ignis, high ground clearance will be a safe option. Directions via Google maps was perfect as well as the signage on the way there, I drove there after sunset.
And of course the dogs friends were a warm welcome and good company on walks. The location was perfect for what I wanted.
No SA cell reception with the option of purchasing a limited data bundle.
I will be back.
