I made my booking and I was booked for Paperbark Lodge No. 11 but upon arrival, my booking was changed by another receptionist.

The receptionist that took my initial booking went out of her to accommodate me. But when she had done so, my reserved lodge was already taken.

So they booked us in a new refurbished lodge and it had a very strong oil paint odour which made it difficult to sleep at night and no curtains on the high windows.

But due to payment being made and we already set an itinerary, we had no option but stay at Paperbark Lodge 12.

Hopefully Paperbark 12 is more accommodating in the future especially the adour. It wont be suitable for people with chronic breathing problems.

Also ensure that you request more towels prior to your bath time because housekeeping is a distance and yet I requested it prior, it never arrived.

Stayed at the Leadwood Cottage for a night. The unit was amazing. Beautiful setting and decor. Very neat and comfortable. Serene surroundings.Downside was that the coffee machine had not been cleaned out after its previous use. Our booking was also mixed up in terms of what room was booked and what was to be given to us. Think that this may be as i had booked through Agoda but uncertain. This was resolved by reception and the correct room provided.

Experienced a rough storm in the evening which resulted in a few leaks through the thatched roof. Unfortunate but out off the resorts control. Unfortunately reception was closed by then but when we went up to the restaurant, we had advised the staff on duty.

The restaurant facility (next to reception) was not of the best quality in terms of food and service. Definitely does not match the beautiful and elegance of the accommodation.

We had a brilliant stay in fishermans cottage. If is located right in the reserve were you can watch the wildlife all around you. The cottage was comfortable, well maintained and had everything we needed to cook, braai and stay warm on the cooler winter nights.

Travelling at the end of June, we were lucky to see the aloes in full bloom.

Attended a private function and booked for two nights. Room at Aloe Lodge bit small with no windows, windows with netting to keep out bugs would be a good addition. good breakfast and friendly staff. Enjoyed stay.

An awesome weekend spent in this tranquil Game Reserve. Friendliest most efficient staff ever. Place was extremely well maintained. Food was delicious. Staff ensured that their guests were very well taken care of...by providing just about anything on request...with a smile.

We visited Tala some 3 weeks back for what was supposed to be a nice birthday outing. Called ahead 4 days early to inquire whether its open, what the prices are and if the restaurant is open to have a nice birthday lunch. We were told all is open and costs are 310 Zar per person out of which 80 ZAR was for the actual entry and the rest could be used in the restaurant. The first surprise came at the entry where we were told that it's 200 zAR for 2 people. Fine. Drove around on very badly maintained roads for a while. The best sighting was a giraffe family. While we were watching the big Tala game viewing truck overtook us and parked right in front of us, completely blocking our view. How rude ? Decided to head for the restaurant. Were told that restaurant is now somewhere else. Got there and they only offered snack type of food. No ways to have a birthday lunch there. We had a wrap and a prego roll, both with chips. The wrap was ok, prego roll and especially chips disgusting. Alerted waitress and also explained that we got totally wrong info on the phone. Didn't care, no excuse no explanation, no other food. We paid and left, never to be seen again.
Had visited several times about 3 - 5 years ago and what an overall decline!

We stayed at Mahogany 4 and it was not the best experience especially for the amount we payed! The whole place is outdated. No wifi, no two pin plugs, limited seating area. No assistance from staff as well as the manager. The water sometimes did not run for the shower n bathroom sink. The hospitality was overall bad.

We had an amazing stay, staff were very friendly, willing to help and always smiling. Accommodation was spectacular and could see they went the extra mile to make it special for our Anniversary. The food just put the cherry on top, meat was falling off the bone, very tasty and portions perfect. We had such great sightings. 10 out of 10 for everything. Can and will definitely recommend.

Our one concern during our stay was the rooms that we had been assigned. We were placed in Paperback House, which would have been fine had there been no other guests there. It so happened that the group staying in the other rooms stayed up watching TV and talking until well after midnight. My husband and I had very little sleep that night! Might I suggest that the sharing of the house be communicated to future guests as such unavoidable noise and a lack of sleep has a severe effect on one's enjoyment of this beautiful, peaceful lodge. I all other respects, we had a fantastic stay and had excellent sightings. A highlight for the kids was the baby jackals!

Best stay with very friendly staff. The cottage was exceptionally clean and exactly like in pictures but better in person when you get to experience all the facilities. I would definitely recommend checking this place out and I will be going back very soon. The activities are appropriate for the venue and the ones we participated on were exceptionally enjoyed and guided by the nicest guys. Thank you

How much do we need to expect to pay for game drives during our stay
Answer from Sam L
Waterfall, South Africa180 contributions53 helpful votes
Self drives are free if you are staying at the reserve, and if you are a day visitor you only have to pay your gate entry, you do not pay any extra for self drives. For official game drives the cost is R310 and slightly less for large groups. Well worth it!
