Place is simple but fine, clean rooms with A/C. A small pool and jacuzzi. Breakfast is fine, very good coffee. The place is near Reserva Isla Juan Venado, and is a most. Beach is a little turbulent, no the best place for surfing. The attraction is the tour in boat, which can be arranged by the lodge($80/two hour private boat). Recommended!
I’ve tried to come here on several occasions. Today I came with my kids promising them pool time. (We had heard the pool was finally filled again after it being empty for a long time). We showed up and the pools were nasty dirty, the big one worse than the smaller. The staff told us we would be charged C$100 each to use the pools (even though we had ordered When we said they were dirty one man came and looked and said, “oh yeah, it is dirty.. it must need chemicals.” Who knows when the last time anyone checked on the pool conditions. We stayed because the kids still wanted to swim in the small pool. I pulled out some hair globs and let them go in. Don’t be fooled by the pictures. It is too bad this is the situation as this is a lovely, secluded beach with no other place with a pool. …
We stayed here for 3 nights/4 days as part of the surf package: 3 meals a day, surf lessons, mediation, massage and other activities included (and the food was great). The surf was good for beginners as well as big break for more advanced surfers. All the staff were extremely friendly and accomodating, especially our surf instructors. Big thank you to Diego who helped organise our daily activities (including our day trip Volcano Boarding). We will definitely recommend Somar to our friends and fellow travellers we meet throughout our trip!!!!
