I was travelling with an 8 week old puppy enroute to delivering it to my niece in Osfontein! Elaine the Host is a very passionate lady in what she offers. Real value for money. Clean and accommodating. Loved their Pool and Garden and the delicious really cold Karoo Ale she offers from the local Brewery in Phillipolis. What a Gem of a little Town and stayed there on my way back too. Very welcoming and their Housekeeper, Marie also a very lovely hard worker and never had a problem to go the extra mile. I even extended one night and Elaine was immediately very accommodating! Really Anker Guesthouse exceeded my Expectations and being a female travelling on her own I felt very safe and really enjoyed my stay. Will definitely be back and hopefully next time with my sister on route to the Cape !
If you have a pet it is really pet friendly!
Thank you to Elaine, Duce and Marie xxx Hopefully see you later this year !

If you’re looking for a place to stay on your way through Philippolis, Anker Guesthouse is a good choice in this quaint little town. Elaine was helpful in organising a dinner spot for us and enquiring about the Tiger Canyons (which unfortunately is not accepting outside guests at the moment). Was a little noisy with the rooms right next to the road, but otherwise a comfortable stay and very central to everything you may need.

We travelled from Kimberley via the southern parts of Free State on our way to the Karoo. Since the roads between towns in the Free State are not built for national road speeds and we wanted to appreciate the hospitality of the small towns off the beaten tracks, we booked a night in Philippolis. And what a jewel we found in Anker Guesthouse. The accommodation was perfect for our family of five, the dogs were made welcome, the braai was clean and ready, the hosts were superb, friendly and had numerous stories to tell of their town's history. We were sorry to depart the next morning at 07h00.

Being from Canada we found the room too hot, at around 35C, even with the fan it made no difference. We struggled to sleep. The floor was very loud and squeaky.

The hostess was friendly, and offered to book supper at the hotel.

The swimming pool was empty, so we could not even cool down.

Anker is the best name there could be. For a geusthouse in a solo beautiful small town sitting between mountains in a grassy area, a town all a lone with a geusthouse calld anker as an oasis with a friendly host. Helpful and always wiling to take your stay up a notch.

We really enjoyed our stay. Everything was perfect for us that was only looking for a single nights accommodation but the facilities is such that you can definitely stay longer should you wish to.
The best was the pool for the kids - that surely made the long sit in the vehicle worth it.
And they really loved the bunk beds in our room.
Thank you Elaine for a wonderful stay and B&B !!

We spent the night of 28 March 2022 at Anker B&B. The turn-off from Colesberg to Phillipolis was well worth it. Kindly received. All the facilities are clean and tidy. Secure parking. We highly recommend the stay.

Clean and spacious accommodation. Met our needs for an overnight stay en route from Cape Town to Joburg. Nice to get off the N1 and take a quiet secondary road. Highly recommended if keeping your costs down while feeling comfortable is your priority. Friendly helpful people.
