Perfect scenery with the view of Nærøydalen. The retro hotell from the 50s has a perfect location close to Fjords and Mountains in Vestlandet. Lots of spectacular hikes and wild nature in order to consume it all - you need to spend at least a couple of nights. PS ask for a room with a view over the valley.

This is a fine traditional hotel with the most spectacular view of the valley and surrounding mountains that one can imagine. The management and staff are extraordinarily attentive. The common rooms are appointed with furnishings and art of the most elegant traditional style. The dining rooms are well-appointed and have a wonder full view through huge picture windows. We ate fish for dinner that was simply superb. The breakfast buffet is as complete as you will find at any first-rate hotel. The hotel has spacious grounds with 360 degree views of nature. If you are looking for walking/hiking possibilities, I recommend Brekkedalen (the Brekke Valley), which starts from the hotel; walk as long and as high in the mountains are you wish! Note that there are no TVs in the rooms, but the wifi connection is very good, so your iPad and phone will connect you to the world. The first time we visited the hotel (we have stayed there twice) we had our dog with us, and we requested (at the time of reservation) and received a ground floor room with a patio and direct access to all the nature our dog required :-) Our dog was very welcome! Yes, we are enthusiastic in recommending this hotel, we will be back!

This hotell is exellent. It may not look imressive on the outside, but inside it is very nice and gives you the feeling of walking into a high class hotell from the 1930s. (It is impossible not to mention the Overlook hotell here ). The wiew is stunning and the rooms are very nice. No TV was a pluss as this is not a hotell to lie in bed watching TV. Great restaurant and reclining area. Great breakfast. The staff was very nice. This is not a budget hotell but worth the price. The picture is the wiew from our room. Definetly coming back!

If you have the time and a vehicle while then I highly recommend a visit to Stalheim Hotel. It is a remote hotel that sits high up a mountain with absolutely stunning views. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate when we arrived but that also added to a great vibe to the visit. Thankfully the clouds cleared and we were able to see the stunning view into the valley this hotel is known for. We even had a sunny second day and went on a great family hike.
We had an amazing Family room at the hotel. One room for us adults and a separate room with 2 beds for our sons. A very nice sized bathroom all connected into a foyer. It was really a perfect sized room for us. The staff are very friendly and helpful. And the breakfast included in our hotel rate was delicious. We also did have dinner at the hotel one night and it is buffet style.
A couple of things to note. You may have already read that there are several tour buses that come to the hotel daily. Also, it is a remote location. There are no additional stores or restaurants other than the hotel. The closest big town we found was Voss which was 30 minutes or less away.
If you are looking for a comfortable and peaceful visit for some R&R, then I think this is the perfect hotel to visit for a night or two or longer!

This was a glorious location; the views unforgettable. The young international staff was excellent, giving us great hiking recommendations and helping us with upcoming reservations. Be sure to ask for a room with the view toward the fjord. The lack of towel racks and electrical outlets was frustrating.

It was a long, complicated journey from Bergen to Flam that took nearly six hours starting with the train, then being assigned to a bus, and finally cruising on a fjord boat. Luckily, the scenery did a lot to compensate for the complexities, and this brief stopover on the bus leg was an unexpected pleasure. Instead of stopping at a roadside rest area, we were left off at this atmospheric hotel for not only a coffee break but interesting historic antiques in the lobby and a beautiful view of the steep Naeroy Valley even as the fog threatened to blanket it all. My husband and I felt bad because the hotel was clearly short-staffed, and the woman running the gift shop was also fulfilling the coffee orders. Oh well, back to the bus.

Had such a good time staying at Stalheim hotel. We were two adults and two dogs and felt very welcomed by the staff. And the FOOD! It was AMAZING! Theres "always" something to pick on, but honestly, we are out of words for the food. The chef should really have a big cred for doing such a good job!
A lot of hiking places all around too, really recommend one of the trails.
+ Food food food from the restaurant! You have to eat there! Especially the halibut!
+ The view
+ Very nice staff that did their job very good!
+ Nice hiking places around the area.
+ We got a room on floor level, so we could just walk outside the door from the room with the beautiful view.
+ Bathtub in the room! We love bathtubs!
- The room itself wasnt entirely modern and very worn down, but since this is a seasonal hotel we have an understanding for that. No TV's in the room.

After failing to find accommodations closer to my planned fjord tour, I “settled” on the Stahlheim despite others comments about the large tour groups.
I’m very glad I did. Yes, there are many bus tours here but I thought the hotel did a good job with them while not ignoring solo travelers such as myself.
The dinner buffet was the only option my first night, but it was quite extensive and varied. The next night I ordered a peach salad and fish entree. Both very good as well. The waiter was helpful and had me sample the cheese in the salad when I inquired.
Great view from the terrace out back. See photo. When I later did a Nutshell loop, the bus stopped here to allow tourists 15 minutes to take pictures.
Lots of interesting photos, paintings and artifacts.
There was a recommended hike nearby but I didn’t have time to do it.
If ever back in the area I will book here, maybe trying to nab the room across the hall, which CondeNast once listed as one of the hotel rooms with the best view in the world. Mine was a small single bed room but entirely adequate.

We stopped for a break at the Stalheim Hotel as part of a cruise ship excursion from Flam and via Voss and Gudwangen. It's a remote hotel but blessed with some beautiful views from the terrace, however the weather gods were not smiling for us, and the low cloud and heavy rain somewhat ruined what would otherwise have been stunning views over the surrounding valley and countryside.
The hotel is adorned with curious exhibits and antique furniture and it's an interesting place to have a look around. We cannot offer a view on the bedrooms and hotel facilities, but the coffee and pastries were had were very good. If you are spending time in that part of Norway it is well worth popping in for a coffee and to take in the views. It's a pretty location and with good weather the views would be amazing.

We stayed 2 nights at this hotel. As it resides high over the surrounding valley, it has an amazing view that is its main attraction. Its large lobby area is also very charming reflecting the history of a time when this hotel was in its glory. But that is where the positives end. This is a favorite destination of tour buses. There were at least 3 both nights we were there. The hotel is really geared to that crowd. The elevator to the higher floors was slow and the door refused to close despite multiple attempts to prompt it. We frequently took the stairs. The hallways and rooms have worn out carpet that smells. Very drab looking and not inviting. Our room, which had an excellent view of the valley, smelled bad. Replacing the carpet would do wonders for this hotel. The furniture is rickety, sparse and very old. There is no TV. The mattresses on the bed were pretty worn out (not firm). For a shorter person, using the plug in the bathroom would require a step stool. Breakfast buffet was adequate but the worst of the 4 hotels we stayed at during our trip. The impression we are left with is that this hotel really doesn’t want to invest in its upkeep and that it is happy being the main destination for various tours whose customers are OK with less than average accommodations. As frequent travelers, we have pretty reasonable expectations and standards. This hotel did not meet them.

Some of the local buses will make a regular stop at the hotel door. Send an email to the hotel - they might be able to help you and tell you the time of the day - yet even better: check the skyss.no website for the bus schedule or nor-way.no. If the bus does not stop at the hotel door at the desired time of the day, you can get off at StalheimKryss on E16 (your bus driver will know the stop) and the hotel staff will pick you up with your luggage (just email them ahead of time). If you have minimal luggage, you can make the walk to the hotel from Stalheimkryss in about 20 minutes on a paved road (beautiful scenery).
Since we were on a tour, I paid NO attention to how we got to the hotel. I remember that it was a lovely ride, sorry IU cannot help you.
If I had to guess, I would say there are probably only queen beds in the hotel. It is small and outdated but a marvelous place to stay and look at the views of the valley. Even if you don't have a room with a scenic view, the grounds outside the hotel and on the main floor give you a beautiful view. I've never been one to stay in my room and stare out the window so I took advantage of the outside spaces which are unique. There is a huge lobby/sitting area full of beautiful antiques and lots of places to sit and take in the views or read a book or talk to other guests. Enjoy it for what it is!
