This was our first stay at Ocean Beach Inn. The beautiful beach house was highly recommended by my brother who stayed there 3 years ago. Starting from the airport transfer up to our daily excursions, such as snorkeling and island trips with picknick at the beach, we were spoiled by the Ocean Beach Team with excellent service! We enjoyed local food and had alternate choice of specialities every day. We were surprised with special dinner at the roof top and beach, it was amazing! They also organized the PCR Test for our departure and private boat transfer to Male. An all-around successful and unforgettable holiday, we definitely come back! Thank you Fathu and to your team!

We had a fantastic stay here! Everyone was very helpful and friendly. They supported us from the time we have booked a room and even organized the transportation to the island and back. They even helped me for a romantic dinner for proposal and it was a great success! The room was nice and clean and the food was very delicious. We loved this place and would come back everytime :-)

Trying to do the Maldives without breaking the bank is not easy, but Ocean Beach fulfils the brief very well – and the extremely accommodating hosts certainly make it a more personal experience than you might expect from one of the exorbitantly priced resorts. They also helped us navigate the baffling inter-island transport system and airport transfers, which was most helpful. We travelled as a couple, off-season, and found it a charming place to stay for five days. The manager greeted us rather formally on arrival, but that initial impression quickly evaporated after all the admin was taken care of. The owners and staff would happily sit and chat and laugh with us, but never outstayed their welcome – it felt natural, rather than simply good, professional hospitality. It was a real joy to be around them. The room itself was good – clean and well taken care of. There was space to hang out on the well-laid-out hotel beachfront with hammocks and loungers (in the sun), or the veranda (in the rain). About the island itself, the positives far outweigh the negatives. I feel the scale of the rubbish found around the place has been overstated in other reviews, and is mostly attributable to the flotsam that washes up from the ocean – hardly the fault of the inhabitants. True, as some reviewers have remarked below, the mosquitoes are unforgiving. But the hotel provided free, reasonably effective lotion and burned mosquito coils upon request - which went some way to keeping them at bay, Its the tropics though – if you don't take care to regularly protect yourself, you'll get mauled. And both the lotion and coils are available to buy cheaply in at least two local shops. The so-called 'bikini' tourist beach is absolutely fine and the water gorgeous. And if you're dressed respectfully, given the island's Muslim population, you can wander beyond that beach to a totally secluded stretch of sand that - on our visit - no one was using. The water is as stunningly blue as you'd expect - and that was in rainy season (the downpours and lightening storms were actually thrilling). You can also borrow the hotel's kayaks and circle the entire island, with or without a guide, in about half an hour or so. Remember, this is a residential island with a relatively new and small tourism element that has sprung up in recent years. The local population keep themselves to themselves and generally go about their day without much interaction with the tourists, from our experience. But it's a more insightful experience than some soulless resort, at least. (Note, there is no alcohol, in case you weren't aware.) The main drawback on the island is the lack of dining options. The hosts will ask you to confirm in the morning whether you want to eat there or not that day, which is understandable given the small number of people staying there and the need to prepare. It quickly dawned on us that it was pretty much the only dining option – the two cafes we visited were not good (and one, being in a small, shady courtyard, was besieged by mozzies – take a coil to burn!) The small supermarket has a very limited range of foods, too. At US$15, hotel meals were expensive compared with what we'd experienced in India and Sri Lanka, but a lot cheaper than what we heard one Maldivian resort was charging. The lack of dining options is the main reason why it would be hard to recommend staying on the island for more than a few days, if you're looking to experience more variety. Given the tiny size of the island, don't expect to do a lot more than relax with a book, as the cute little hermit crabs scuttle slowly across the sand around you and the herons hang out a few feet away. You can, of course, take to the water, and we did the hotel's excursion out to the coral reef to snorkel with a dazzling array of fish and bobbing turtles, which was an unforgettable experience. We promised the hosts at the time that we'd post a review (our stay was in August 2019), so many apologies for the delay!

The location of Ocean Beach inn is great. Rooms are very nice tidy and comfy, much better than I expected we could get in local island. This is the third time I have been Maldives, this is the first time I tried local island. Compared with other resorts I stayed, this local island experiences is the best! The service of Ocean Beach inn is the best part! We were treated not only as VIP , old friends,we were treated as family . When we arrived lodge after 7 hours flight and one hour speedboat transfer,we were so tired and hungry. The manager Fathu ( Imran’s brother) with other staffs , they waited for meeting us and prepared a dinner for us even it was almost 11pm. It was very kind .Made us feel so warm. Fathu is a very professional manager, he always give us the quick response when we require something. Fathu’s wife Adhila is our chef , she is very capable. These foods are so delicious, everyone like them !The special point is she even try some Chinese style dishes for us by following the recipe from internet. These motherland’s tastes please everyone of my family . She is a cooking genius! Arif , Ali, Hesen , our excursion guide ,captain and best helper. They take good care of us at every moment. We had enjoyed sunset fishing, sand bank trip, cruising for dolphins , Whale shark tour,Manta snorkeling, Turtle snorkeling, picnic island trip. Everyday were filled by excited surprised discovery and fabulous view!I still remember when our kids felt hungry after whale shark and manta snorkeling, they changed the following turtle trip plan to afternoon, took us back to Hangnaameedhoo for lunch directly. After lunch everyone felt tired and sleepy, I talked with Arif and Ali, they agreed us to change turtle tour plan again to next morning. It let us refreshed after a good nap. And other staffs I might can’t say their names correctly ,they all are very nice and kind to us . help us a lot. Imran and his wife Aisha are amazing! Aisha checked Chinese cuisine recipe for us and give it to Adhila. Very thoughtful! Imran is a lifesaver for us!! No matter how many questions , new requirements and plans changing came from us, he and his wife always responded very quickly and try their best to help us to deal with. We had a big problem about island transfer because another resort’s fault. Imran though solutions and arrange new speedboat to help us even very late , almost midnight . They save our holiday! I was touched! They give us the best experience of hotel service!Ocean Beach Inn is the best real five star hotel for me and for my family. We will definitely come back in future . We highly recommend Ocean Beach Inn for everyone who consider coming to local island .

Despite the staff being very friendly, this is NOT a 3 star hotel. It is a 1 star hotel at most. I totally acknowledge the effort of setting up a hotel on a remote and strictly Muslim island, it is not easy. However, to qualify my opinion, I will explain about Ocean Beach Inn. By the way we also stayed at Ocean Beach Lodge the first night, as they had made some mistake with our booking. It’s the same over there… First, we are a family of 4 and we share a lot of the things we bring with us on holiday like sunscreen, mosquito balm etc. Ocean Beach Inn did not take any notice of this and gave us two rooms on two different floors, which was very impractical for us. Ocean Beach is the kind of place that does not provide you with a piece of hand soap (or any other soap to wash your hands). They give you ‘clean’ towels; however they are stained from the use of other guests, see picture. You will only get a ‘clean’ towel if you ask for it. You will also meet the occasional cockroach, see picture. Hot water will be there for the first 2 seconds, then it will disappear. So please, TripAdvisor, read this, and change your rating of this hotel from 3 into 1 star. They clean the rooms nicely, but as the grounds are sandy everywhere, it is impossible not to take a lot of sand into the room constantly. The place is packed with mosquitoes 🦟, not least the species that bite during the day (transmitting dengue, zika 🤒 etc). There is no mosquito net. The aircon works impeccably. When we were around there were a lot of Italian guests, and the place was highly decorated for Christmas (understatement). Also, they are very fond of light, especially blinking light, in all kinds of colors, so we had an abundance of that! Food: The chef is really nice! I mean really, really nice, and he does his very best. Having visited all 3 ‘restaurants’ at the island, I would say that he does a very, very good job! However, food at Hangnaameedhoo is extremely basic, actually the worst food that I have ever been served in the world. However, at Ocean Beach the chef does a good job, and you will get a very basic, but OK meal. We only had breakfast included, but it seemed like all the other (Italian) guests had full pension. One day we were told by the boss (Fatu) that we were not able to have dinner at Ocean Beach because they had so many guests on full pension that they did not have space for us… Then later someone else (Raj) asked if we wanted dinner and given the (lack of) alternatives we obviously accepted, so apparently, they were able to accommodate us. Strange. Tours: We went on a fishing trip in the late afternoon, and it was a really nice trip. We did not catch a lot, but the little we got was served on the grill the following night. We also went on the snorkeling trip. It was an OK trip, but the snorkeling from house reef or ‘bikini beach’ is actually nicer, so don’t bother. Town: Walking through town gave a total flash-back to West Africa. We used to live in Guinea-Bissau, a very poor West African country, and it looked exactly as poor and shabby as there… Even the vegetation is the same. Important difference: The food is much, much better in Africa! Also, at Hangnaameedhoo nothing is well maintained, also not the roads. As a result, there are numerous puddles everywhere as well as litter, eg empty cans and old coconuts – providing excellent breeding grounds for all the happy mosquitoes 🦟 that I mentioned earlier. I strongly encourage the 700+ inhabitants of Hangnaameedhoo to take better care of their beautiful island than they do now. Beach: At ‘bikini beach’ you can wear a bikini 👙 and the place is out-of-this-world beautiful. Snorkeling is phenomenal, nothing less! The corals are damaged, but there are so many different fish 🐡, and they are so beautiful 🐠. The mosquitoes 🦟 also like the place, and they will bite you – even in the sun in broad daylight. In conclusion, if you are on a budget, and if you do not mind the occasional cockroach and if you like very, very basic food (cup noodle style), then go to Hangnaameedhoo!
