Camping- nice facilities for shared ablution, warm watter, wifi working nicely only in the kitchen area. Very clean, it is family business and we had great time there. The night we stayed was a bit cold, but warm watter saved the day

We have camped here before, this time we booked the chalet with the king size bed. Everything was in good order, well equipped kitchen, spacious, very comfortable accommodation and hosts, located on an orange farm. Super shower. Quiet and secure. Generator back-up during load shedding until 10 pm. Will be back when in the area and would definitely recommend this accommodation.

This is a very nice, VERY clean and comfortable place to stay. The accomodations are almost like a mobile home. There's a/c, a fridge and coffee in the room. Quiet and pleasant. Their food is also quite good, and there's a hardworking, lovely woman working everywhere it seems, accompanied by two sweet Ridgebacks.

We landed here by chance, with our motorhome and loved everything about the place: The location (about 2 km from N7), the grassy campsites, the spotless modern facilities and the welcoming hosts Highly recommended. Next time we will try out the chalets.

Marcuskraal is a good stopover as you explore South Africa. A nice quiet location. I’m not sure it is worth more than a couple of nights even with their activities (4 wheel adventures and tour of the citrus farm). A good location to explore the local tea (Rooibus tea) region. Everything is clean and functional although some of the newer chalets do suffer from a couple of design flaws. The bathrooms are small and narrow so the sliding doors would be better hung on the bedroom side as these are more than adequate in size. The sinks are too bigs which block entry into the bathroom and leaves no room to dry off on exiting the shower. There were chairs outside our room looking over the orchards but a table to put drinks on would help. The family are very accommodating and the home cooked breakfasts are superb. If you have dinner these are also home cooked and very filling. There was no open social space when we visited or any outside shade which meant despite there being fabulous weather you were basically confined to your rooms.

I stayed in one of the smaller rooms near the campsite (Nomad). The room was clean, good basic furniture, GREAT shower (best during my trip), and a good bed. The area is located a bit further away from the road, so it is quiet. Marcuskraal is a big area, so everyone has a bit of space.

When we arrived there was no lock on our room. The manager said that was not an issue here. When I said it was an issue he asked what country I was from. What kind of place does not have a lock on our door. The place is under construction and the roads are rutted dirt - hard to pull your luggage along. Lots of attitude. Stay elsewhere.

Response from Marcuskraal4x4, Manager at Marcuskraal Chalet & Campsite
Responded 07 Aug 2019
Hallo Gary, Thanks for your review. At the moment when you complained in spite of the wifi that only you could not connect to, because you miss spelled the password, you actually had the chalet's key in your hand as you spoke to me. I helped you to connect your Apple tablet to the wifi, because you couldn't spell the password correct. Then all of a sudden you said the following: "This place is unsave!!" If Marcuskraal had any security problems, Nomad Africa Adventures would not stay with us for 7 years. Since the opening of Marcuskraal Campsite and Chalets, 9 years ago, there was no theft or any other incident at Marcuskraal. So, your acceptance of "unsave" is totally unfounded. It's very strange that only you felt unsave out of 46 guests last night. We are building extra facilities to accommodate more tours for Nomad Africa Adventures. Enjoy your tour.

Spent the weekend at Marcuskraal with the family. Sho, what a peaceful and relaxing spot. Staying in a guest house that has all the amenities you would need for a weekend away. The hot-tub was the family favourite.

Marcuskraal is a camping ground with a 4x4 track as part of its main attraction. It's located close to Citrusdal just off the N7. On the camping grounds there is a function venue where my wife and I attended a wedding. Some of our friends camped there for the weekend of the wedding and I had a chance to have a look around. Most of the camping spots have big trees for shade and green lawns. The ablution facilities are close-by, and they are neat and clean, and there are power points and braai areas close to each spot. There is a pool to cool off in and a playground area for the kids as well. The camp is surrounded by citrus orchards and mountains which makes for beautiful sunrise/sunset photos, and the mountains block any noise from the N7. For those that don't want to camp, but still want to experience what Marcuskraal has to offer, there are also self-catering chalets available. As a side note regarding the wedding venue: The venue is big enough for medium sized weddings. The food was very tasty, the surrounding areas makes for great wedding photos and with the accommodation onsite this makes for a great option in the Citrusdal region.

How do you not award full score to a venue that excel in their advance online booking and communication systems, warmly welcome all on arrival, assist with any request and offer fantastic chalet and campsites to all their visitors? The venue have neat and well equipped chalets, spacious campsites with ample electricity and fresh water points, outstanding and ample ablution facilities, a wonderful swimming pool, play park for the kids and many more. Braaiwood and ice is available in abundance. The farm also boast a very interesting 4X4 route with a 4-5 grading. (Maybe not for the overland drivers) This establishment is highly recommended to all that want to enjoy a quiet time in nature and an interesting 4x4 drive.
