We booked our stay at Fundudzi Camp through African Ivory roads. The way description to the camp they provided us with was very accurate and correct so we did not have problems to find way except the last turn into the camp we missed and ended up a rocky road. Luckily we were driving a 4x4 and had high clearance otherwise we might have got into trouble for sure, and if it had rained at that time defiantly. After a short phone call with the camp we were pointed back in to the right direction and were shortly after welcomed by Nelson, the camp responsable, and Tshifhiwa, she would be our guide for the rest of the day were we visited Lake Fundudzi, The Sacred Forest, the waterfalls. At evening we also had a cultural dance performance we booked extra. Needs to be said that never less the camp is basic and no current is provided unless by solar panel power, the shower is nice and warm, food is good and the huts are clean with comfy beds. We left the camp the next day with the awareness time we had planned in was defiantly too short and to much too see, leaving behind new made friends. Thank you Tshifhiwa and Nelson for your warm hospitality and excellent guidance during our (too short) stay. We defiantly will come back some day

This is a place for absolute solitude. It is surrounded by forest / trees. It's high up in the hills about 30 minutes from Thohoyandou. There are tea plantations in the vicinity. During the night, the only noises come you hear are from bushbabies, monkeys and other forest animals. The camp is safe, clean - it has hot water and charging stations for cellphones. The best were comfortable and the hot shower blissful after a day packed with activities. There is a communal kitchen with a stove and a fridge. If you like your soapies forget it as there's no TV. I found the Solar lamps adequate for my needs. I got lost in the nearby village but got to test my 4x4's capabilities in the rugged roads. I will gladly book here next time I'm in the area.

Fundudzi camp is situated in the Soutpansberg mountain forest on a terraced hillside within the Land of Legends. The landscape is the complete opposite of Baleni with bright green moss and the ever present smell of wet earth. We were welcomed by a slight drizzle and velvet monkeys entertaining us from the tree tops. Or was it the other way round … It was colder at the foot of the Launame Mountains and we found comfort by sitting around our camp fire. Although it was short lived due to rain.

We stayed at this cultural camp for two nights for a cultural experience and it was a great one. But please be warned that the sand road to this camp is not a nice one and you must make arrangements with the camp to meet you where the tar road ends and the dirt road starts. This is a treacherous road with very little signage and one could get lost very easily. None the less, the staff are great and the cultural experience excellent. My guests enjoyed the rooms although very rustic but this is part of the experience. The local food at the camp was good.
