Situated in 2.5 Acres of tropical gardens, Sunbird Lodge is the perfect place to relax and let your stress melt away. Laze by the swimming pool, sit under one of our Lapa's with a drink from the bar or take in the gardens at night looking at the stars, you can do as much or as little as you want.We are a family run business with the emphasis firmly on good quality and friendly service.
As a member of Birdlife South Africa, bird lovers will be in their element, with a wide variety of different bird species in the gardens.We are less than 3km from both the Phalaborwa Gate for the Kruger National Park and the renowned Hans Merensky Golf Estate. The Central Business District of Phalaborwa is less than 2km away making us the perfect choice for the business or leisure traveller. We are less than 5 minutes drive from Phalaborwa airport and car hire can also be arranged.
Choose from one of 5 spacious double/twin rooms in the main house all with their own private access from the gardens. We have 2 delightful twin bedded rooms next to the swimming pool and 3 rooms situated together in the garden. Each room has its own bathroom with either shower and bath or just shower plus air conditioning, fridges, ceiling fans, TV's, tea & coffee making facilities and private patios. All rooms are non-smoking, but smoking is allowed on the patios outside the rooms
A full English cooked breakfast along with juices, cereals, fruit and yoghurts is available daily in our dining rooms and packed lunches and dinners are also available (these must be pre arranged). We can also provide a take away breakfast for those of you leaving us early in the morning.Dinner is a delicious home cooked set menu, is available Monday-Friday and must be pre booked. There are also several good eating places we can recommend all within 5 minutes drive of us.
Facilities at the lodge include a unique African bar with DSTV, a good size swimming pool, lapa's, a large braai (barbecue) area, secure car parking, a safe to store your valuables, laundry services and fax and internet facilities ( FREE WIFI connection available throughout the Lodge).
There are plenty of activities to keep you occupied, both close by and within 90 minutes drive and we are the perfect base to explore this wonderful region of Limpopo. These activities include the Kruger National Park, cruising down the Olifants River, golf at the challenging Hans Merensky course, day trips to Gods Window, 3 Rondavels, Graskop and Pilgrims Rest, walking with lions, elephant back safari's, micro light or balloon flights over the game reserves and many many more. We can help you with reservations and advise on any of the activities available.

Very nice place yo visit. Nice rooms, nice breakfast, very gently host, they allways find the way to help. We forget some documents and they send them all by email. People here was born for this kind of job. Thanks a lot for everything
We had a wonderful time at Sunbird Lodge, our host Dave was very approachable if we needed anything he had it at our beck and call. The rooms we're spacious and they had both air-con and ceiling fans in each room. All the amenities such as bbq, swimming pool a bar and fridge/freezer we available for us to take cans of drink, bottled water, ice and other alcoholic drinks to our rooms during the day and before the bar closed at 9 in the evening, guests we're to write their surname and the name of the unit on a pad, so Dave knew how much we took from the bar and charge it to our room. I liked the names of the rooms as they we're named after the local native birds. All in all we enjoyed our stay and will return in the near future. Peter & Sheryl Stanford (Elder & Sister Stanford )
We had a lovely time there. Spacious and comfortable rooms, beautiful garden and nice swimming pool. Dave is the best host. He was prompt to help us with information, directions, and to suit our needs. There is also a home made freshly cooked breakfast which is the best way to start up your day, Dave will make sure of that. The facilities are great and the place is close to everything: gas station, supermarket, restaurants, and Phalabrowa Kruger gate. We hope to be back soon!
Excellent overnight stop after a long day's drive, before heading into Kruger Park. We used to stay at another establishment that has gone downhill, so were looking for an alternative. Very happy with our choice and plan to use this lodge in future. Spacious, quiet rooms ( single storey with full height ceiling), private terrace overlooking well-kept gardens, lovely pool and areas to sit in the garden. The total site is about 2 acres so much better than some of the other lodges in town. Room had both ceiling fan and aircon, a good shower room, fridge and tea making facilities. Cold beers were available in an honesty bar. We had such a peaceful rest and enjoyed a really good breakfast. Secure parking directly behind the rooms. Very clean place. Rooms are quite big as well as the bathrooms. 5 minutes driving and you are inside the Kruger Park. I used this lodge as a stop to avoid driving 7-8 hours from Johannesburg before reaching a lodge inside. Place is very quiet and well kept. Just outside there are restaurants with very good food and play areas for kids. Owners are very friendly and collaborative. For any question, they have an answer!
