Travellers' Choice
12 bungalow suites overlook the infinite hues of blue of the Indian Ocean, on the full sandy bottom of an island, in front of the untouched Swahili Coast. Lazy Lagoon is an exclusive resort, renowned for its great cuisine, unpretentious and laid-back atmosphere, warm but discrete hospitality. Balancing luxury and respect for local culture and environment it is the perfect place to relax after a safari, with a touch of style. Fine coral, white sand and clear turquoise-blue water are the main features of our virgin beach.

Check in was done after 4 hrs of waiting. We were not alone rather more than 5 families were made to wait like this. Overbooked but have no service. No amenities like kettle in rooms. Even electricity comes for fixed hours. So in humid weather, no AC is there. So if you wanna go with kids, plan some good hotel. No proper Internet. Recharge your data bundles as hotel gives only excuses. Worst part is the spread of lunch, dinner & even breakfast. Only 2-3 items served that too were out of stock within 15-20 mins. Then you keep on requesting & the staff will keep on refusing that it’s over. Breakfast starts at 9am as per the hotel though anywhere in world it starts max by 7am. No cereals or corn flakes even served in breakfast. Overall they are charging more than a 5 star property but when comes to service; it’s Zero. For everything their reason is less staff due to Corona. Although I’m a Tanzanian resident & telling you that there is nothing like this in Tanzania. Blatant lies & useless follow up to be done for basic things. Drinks are overpriced like a beer costing $4 & wines minimum $30. Worst Beach experience ever.

Thank you for your review. We are sorry that your experience at Lazy Lagoon Island did not live up to expectation and we will be holding a full review of the situation to assess what went wrong to ensure that this situation does not reoccur. We were not overbooked, but there was an issue in room preparation being done in a timely manner, for which we whole heartedly apologise. Regarding electricity and amenities, we are a natural island lodge and do not claim to offer the same amenities as a city style hotel. All services, including all water used on the island have to be brought across by boat.

Our stay was an all-round amazing experience. We spent a week end in a spacious hut surrounded by nature and beach. We really liked the design of our bungalow and layout of Lazy Lagoon. The restaurant offered delicious food and great selection of cocktails and wine. Last but not least we need to highlight the staff. They made us feel like at home by going above and beyond to ensure we were having a good time. Special shout-out to Sandel who made our stay even more memorable. Thanks!

We've been coming to Lazy Lagoon at least once a year for the past 5 years... and watching its state and service decline with every visit. The bands and the common sitting areas desperately need a spruce-up. The pool is in a sad state and was only 2/3 full all weekend when we were there. The lunch buffet was served 1.5 hours late, which was an issue since there were so many kids with us. The food was mediocre - it seems there is no real chef there. No real coffee either, only cheap instant stuff (which for any place that charges more than $100 a room I find totally unacceptable). Mosquito nets do not reach the floor or close properly. This seems to be a bigger issue with the FOXES LODGES all over Tanzania. Looks like the owners are unwilling to invest in the maintenance of their properties. Sad to see such a once beautiful property in such a stunning location deteriorate like this.

Lazy Lagoon used to be great compared to others. Unfortunately other hotels have raised their game while Lazy Lagoon hasn't. Like many other hotels and resorts in Tanzania, it looks run down and in need of repair. The pool was only 3/4 full, many chairs and railings were broken or in need of repair. The stairs from the pool to the beach had a step half hanging off which was not repaired after bringing it to the staff's attention. The food OK. The sides were good but all meats were overcooked. We suspected they were cooked too far in advance and then heated up later. Coffee - Just the cheap, instant Africafe which is disappointing at these prices. The banda/room is very nice and situated on the beach with enough space from others to provide privacy.
