My husband and I stayed at Breede Bay Guest House in Witsand this past weekend and were charmed by the service we received. Hannetjie and Neil went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and at home, while the view from our bedroom window was wonderful. We were served a hearty breakfast and entertained by the hosts while we ate, and after eating it was only a few short minutes walk to the beach. Tip to the traveler to Witsand : early Autumn is a beautiful time to go, calm and sunny, without the relentless wind of summer. If you're looking for whales, it's best to go from July to early September, as this when they usually mate and calve in the bay of Witsand. For kitesurfers, great trade winds blow from the south east from December to February, making the lagoon a good place for practicing jumps. Places of interest nearby include the Barry Memorial Church, The Pont at Malgas (only hand-operated pont in the country), and De Hoop Nature Reserve: we spotted yellow mongoose, bontebok and baboons.
