Detailed Reviews
I returned to Moringa a year later and again i was not disappointed. The meals were delicious and well prepared and served by pleasant and amicable waiters. i recommend the grilled talapia and chilli tomato sauce washed down by a pint of XCHILLA beer. My room was neat and clean and at this time of the year a pleasant jasmine scent filled the evening balmy air.I played lots of golf although the fairways on the course were being greened and the greens need to be established and pin flags installed to complete the course.... but beware of the rough...its rocky and known to hide a lurking egyptian cobra or puff adder.
The fishing was off season so no surprises there but generally a fabulous stay although anything beyond a week would be stretching your saturation point.

Great view, chill vibe and calm surroundings. Go there to relax and fish - if that's your thing 🐟 Just know that it will be a 30 min very bumpy ride from the highway. Better use a 4x4. Bring drinks and own food if you want the self serviced bungalows....food is a little bit pricey there, and no rooms includes breakfast (actually the most expensive dishes on the menu is breakfast) 🙃

Pretty much, it was a disaster. We left the place early for our own peace of mind.
The only greatness there is the views of the dam, unfortunately, the peace is thoroughly shattered by capenta boat engines, so best be finding another location, unless ofcourse, you are friends of the owners/management and are keen on a big booze-up – day and night experience! Let it be known that they (owners/management) will not consider any paying customers on their property!
Hence I would not ever recommend going there after our disappointing experience, it's enough of a mission to try and find the place and when you do get there, it's under construction.
Generally, on a get-a-way to a place like this, one is supposed to feel reborn in the morning, but even some solid sleep was not to be had. Promises and courtesies roll off their tongues, but nothing is remotely evident to back up the talk.
It was a trunk full of junk! Poor girls involved, hopefully they'll be able to shake it off one day or learn from their folks that drinking it up and falling pregnant at 16 is just 'so cool'...

It took us 3 hours to drive from Tete to Moringa Bay Lodge and despite the poor road conditions, I loved the drive through the countryside. Seeing the people going about there daily lives in Africa was so wonderful to experience.
At the end of a 17 km dirt road we found our oasis and home from home for the long weekend.
Gail welcomed us and told us where to find our cottage. Although the rooms are basic, they are extremely clean and the bed was very comfortable. Tea and coffe facilities were available and there was an excellent and new air conditioning unit. The view takes your breath away. We had a rondaval down at the Lakes edge with a covered deck that extended out over the Lake. No pesky Mosquitos due to the cooling afternoon, through morning breeze that whisks up the lake and makes breakers hit against the rocks and sounds like the ocean all night long. This lulling sound had us sleeping like babies and totally relaxed within minutes each night.
The food is excellent at the lodge and served on the open porch overlooking the lake.
We enjoyed the huge and beautiful pool all to ourselves, but there was plenty of room for others. The owners are making improvements constantlyto the lodge and there were workmen building a huge Lapa to enable large groups to stay. This work did not bother our stay though.
If I ever get back to Mozambique again, I will certainly make a booking at this Lodge.

Had a great five days at moringa.
Getting there:-
Road is good until the last 20 odd km where a dirt road is used. this is still not bad but i would recommend a vehicle with high ground clearance especially during the rains.
The lodge:-
Moringa is situated on the side of a hill over looking the cahorra bassa dam. To the right is the gorge and to the left is the lake. the scenery and view is fantastic. the challets are self service at the moment, however a bar/resturant and swimming area is under construction and should be up and running in the new year. The challets are very comfortable, spacious and fully airconditioned. They have a fridge, freezer, gas cooker and all the required cooking utensils. basic supplies like drinks and ice can be supplied by moringa on a daily basis. it is advisable to carry your own food etc.
fishing:-
we had some wonderful fishing time on the lake, the tiger were not huge but we got plenty of them. apart from tiger fish, you can catch large Vundu, bream and a host of other species(zambezi river species)
Boat hire:-
there are a number of boats for hire at moringa, the price varies from size of boat. all hired boats come with a skipper/fishing guide.
guests are welcome to bring there own boats however i would advise that you make use of a guide at least for the first day to show you around.
Fuel for the boats and cars can be supplied by moringa at a reasonable price.
personal note:-
we had a great time at the lodge and on the water. the Management went out of there way to make sure we were comfortable and had want for nothing. new friends have been made! The staff were polite and assisting.
Fishing was good, concentrate on the little bays and coves that are dotted around the entrance of the gorge. use either a bream swim bait or willow leaf spinner with a small piece of fish fillet attached to the hook.
Gail/Fred,
thanks for a great time.

At the end of the hectic dirt road it is all worth it, as Moringa bay lodge is beautiful, has a fantastic pool views, good food, very friendly owners who go out of they way to accommodate your every need. To have your room faculties working all the time and if a problem occurs it's sorted out immediately. Very good service and lovely food.

Myself and 3 friends visited Moringa bay for 5 days in Feb 2013 and what an awesome experience. Gail and Fred went out of their way to make our stay memorable and Fred even showed us how to catch bream between the reeds. The accommodation was very clean and the beautiful lawns creates a cool atmosphere to relax in after a hot day on the water. We are all looking forward to our next visit. The restaurant and pool will probably be done soon so we are looking forward in having some beers next to the pool after a long day of catching tigers in this spectacular setting.
