The 14th-century medicean Villa La Massa is set on the banks of the Arno River in the Tuscan countryside and linked to Florence’s city centre by the complimentary hotel shuttle. The hotel features 51 rooms, divided between five historic buildings: the Villa Nobile, the Mill, the Villino, the Casa Colonica and the Limonaia. The spirit of the Renaissance is still palpable in the first two villas decorated with sublime canopied beds, frescoes and tapestries, silks and brocades, while the other three are beautifully furnished in a more contemporary Florentine style. One of the villas, the Casa Colonica, an ancient farmhouse featuring 4 suites and a kitchen, has been rehabilitated in 2018 and can be rented out on an exclusive basis. The restaurant Il Verrocchio serves traditional Tuscan cuisine while the new L'Oliveto Bistro serves light fair by the brand new outdoor heated pool during the day. The Arno SPA is set in a welcoming Tuscan atmosphere and features products by Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella.

When it comes to a birthday present, the first thing that comes to my mind is privacy and tranquility. The value of being alone with nature and with each other, away from such a beautiful but busy center of Florence, can be felt here at Villa La Massa. Когда речь заходит о подарке ко дню рождения, первое что мне приходит на ум - это уединение и спокойствие. Ценность быть наедине с природой и друг с другом, вдали от такого красивого, но шумного центра Флоренции чувствуешь здесь, в Villa La Massa.

Hotel's Favourite
On a recommendation from a friend, we booked this gorgeous hotel. Tamara Trambusti welcomed us like a friend and looked after us with such care and warmth during our stay for the week. She was the inspiration and creator of our dinner plans as we managed to eat in some amazing restaurants across Florence. We had the most amazing room with a view and everyone we encountered at the hotel was lovely, kind and helpful. Restaurent manager Antonio was funny and warm and looked after us like royalty. Pietro, Lorenzo, Massimo, Alessandra and the Gentleman at poolside restaurant were all amazing and thorough professionals. Our daily shuttle service in to Florence worked out a treat. We will certainly come back again and again and also definitely visit as soon as they reopen for Summer.

The sweet scent of jasmine fills the air as I enter the grounds of the beautiful estate of Villa la Massa. I feel as if I have stepped into a slice of heaven, and I never want to leave. Much more than a hotel, Villa la Massa is a dream destination. Set on the Arno River, only fifteen minutes from the heat and bustle of Florence, you will feel as if you are a world away. Yet, the hourly shuttle service to the Ponte Vecchio Bridge in Florence will get you there in no time for exploration. The resort is comprised of four buildings, all immaculately restored to meet the expectations of the luxury traveler. The original palace was first built in the 13th century by the powerful Medici family who ruled Tuscany for 300 years during the Renaissance and commissioned almost all of the works of art in Florence from that time: works by Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Botticelli and others. Every room in the palace is unique, spacious, and luxurious, furnished with beautiful antiques, rich fabrics and beautiful marble bathrooms. The Villino is situated directly on Arno with views of both the river and the extensive gardens. It is comprised of seven rooms which can be rented exclusively. The Arno Suite has an expansive terrace on the river. So lovely! For my most recent visit in June 2021 to celebrate my honeymoon, we stayed on the second floor of the newly restored La Limonaia. We adored our room, styled in keeping with the original structure’s Tuscan décor, but with more contemporary fabrics and furnishings. At La Limonaia, we had the perfect view from our little terrace overlooking the Arno. The first floor rooms have private garden with lounge chairs. Many wonderful improvements have been made since my last visit. An old farmhouse behind the property was purchased and converted to the casual L’Oliveto Bistro where lunch is served in a quaint indoor space or on the patio overlooking the magnificent new swimming pool. After exploring Florence on a very warm day, a dip in the pool was the perfect way to cool off. On Wednesday evenings, three courses of gourmet pizzas is served, paired with different beverages and accompanied by live music. The event is attended by the locals as well as resort guests, so we felt like we were part of the community. Casa Colonica is another fabulous addition to the property. It is a renovated farmhouse dating from the 1800’s and comprised of four new very spacious suites with living rooms, and internal courtyard and kitchen. This can also be rented exclusively. We enjoyed a peaceful breakfast at Il Verrocchio on the terrace overlooking the Arno River, watching the ducks swim and locals walk their dogs on the path on the river’s opposite side. Most of the dogs could not resist the temptation to jump in the river and swim, a fun sight to see. While sipping mimosas, we savored delicious fresh fruits, homemade pastries and breads, with eggs and other warm dishes made to order This is the ONLY restaurant in Florence located directly on the river. In addition to the wonderful rooms and amenities here, what makes this property so very special and draws me to come back again and again is the delightful Tamara Trambusti who greets me, as well as my valued clients, as an old friend. Tamara has been at the property for 40 years, and remembers even more than I everything I have done on my previous visits. How she does this, I can’t imagine! She is a treasure, and makes surewe are well taken care of. I trust her to make the best restaurant recommendations and grant every wish I have. Along with Tamara is the fantastic General Manager Stefano Venturi, who oversees the estate and ensures that the staff delivers the best food , service and overall experience. My clients will always have the benefit of many exclusive amenities, including a one category upgrade on arrival subject to availability, breakfast daily, complimentary minibar throughout the stay, including alcohol, replenished once a day, a welcome transfer pick up with Mercedes car from Florence airport or Santa Maria Novella Railway Station. And for bookings of three nights or more, a complimentary 3-course lunch at L'Oliveto Bistrot for up to 2 guests per room. As a travel advisor specializing in luxury vacations in Europe and particularly itineraries throughout Italy, I have visited many magnificent hotels in this diverse and amazing country. I must say that Villa la Massa is at the very top of my list for Florence and Tuscany!

We have just returned, at long last due to Coronavirus to our retreat and bolt hole which we call our second home, Villa La Massa. It was fantastic to return and see how recent times have changed everyone’s lives and how adaptable people are. During the winter extensive alterations were completed which saw the additional of some new suites, a dedicated restaurant for lunch and a new pool but sadly the opening was delayed until late July when guests were once again allowed to return to hotels in Italy. We found superb additions to an already delightful hotel. The original intimacy of La Massa remains but there is now even more to enjoy. The staff, limited in numbers like the number of guests staying were fantastic and continued to maintain the high standards of service we have experienced over many years and repeated visits. The views of the countryside and banks of the Arno remain undiminished as does the quality of the hotel, excellent food and ambiance. Sadly, their are restrictions in place regarding faces masks at times that have become part of our everyday lives but it didn’t diminish the experience at all. The spa is currently closed due to the virus but the gym is open and with the new pool and it’s surroundings I didn’t even think about the spa once. As always the food is exceptional and the chef is always around to chat and will tweak meals with pleasures to meet your needs. It would be unfair to single out anyone as everyone is working hard but Stefano Venturi the General Manager and Tamara should be congratulated for shaping and guiding his team in these difficult times. With fingers crossed I hope to return in a month and enjoy the vista again. Florence is starting to get busier as well as tourists slowly return. Attractions are open and in some cases it is advisable to pre book.
