We were booked into a room at the Pig and Whistle. Unfortunately our room window was facing the main road and very noisy. The room was also extremely hot and definitely needed a ceiling fan. For these reasons, we requested a room change. The room we moved into was very pleasant, cool and quiet. The ceiling fan only had one...

Thank you for the constructive feedback. We will certainly check the ceiling fan in your room. Thank you for the positive feedback about the food and your new room. The garden area is actually our next project with plans for a small plunge pool and a stage for musicians to perform outdoors on those very hot balmy days that the...

Apart from its history as the oldest pub in South Africa, this is a very pleasant spot to stop over. The pub is full of character and atmosphere and the food is good solid "pub fare". The rooms are well appointed and I could almost feel the history.

Alfresco Dining on the veranda on a lazy Saturday afternoon....at the Pig and Whistle, which is claimed to be the longest standing and uninterrupted Liquor Licence, which is hugely impressive ....had a starter and main course and it was a good helping, excellent salad and chips...but then after reading the reviews on the other food should have tried the infamous...

I can recommend this property for comfort and appeal, value for money, personable and professional staff and all-round 'feel-good' experience. My stay at this hotel was 5* comfortable and the very cheery front-of-house welcome I received on my (late) arrival was mirrored by the cheery attention from all the staff. My suite was beautifully appointed. I booked another night's stay...

We spent four fabulous days in the ''Pig & Whistle'; in a well appointed double room with a good bed and a modern bathroom; the breakfasts must not be missed, the restaurant serves gourmet meals, has a comprehensive 'a la carte' menu and a good wine cellar; the service is not slow as everything is cooked from fresh. The 'piece...

My hubby and I spent two nights at this little hotel. It was very afforadable, and the en-suite room was comfortable and well-equipped. The hotel is charming in it's antiquity, and we very much enjoyed learning more about the history of the building and the town. The pub is full of character, and the restaurant is good as well. The...

We stayed in one of the rooms with a shared bathroom as the en suites were already booked. We were slightly dubious at first but the room was well furnished and exceptionally clean, as was the bathroom. The evening meal was delicious and it was fun hanging out with the locals in the pub. Great value for money

Thank you for the kind words. Our wonderful village is full of interesting people young and old with interesting life stories. Our famous bar and veranda is the best place to hear them. Lucille and I look forward to hosting you again, perhaps this time in the en-suites.

Beautiful, historic quaint building in peaceful country village, but with a serious noise problem on the night we stayed. When we phoned in advance to book, they failed to warn us about the country music festival in the bar downstairs that would be heard loud and clear in our rooms. The music kept us up till 12 and the drunk...

Greetings, we certainly appreciate your feedback, which is always welcome. For the benefit of other tripadviser users we need to correct the perception left by the reviewer. Hi Jan, firstly we must repeat our apologies for your hot water problem. David Bristow's latest Book "Been there Done That" (Struik March 2011) rates the Pig and Whistle as a unique place to Stay, Eat, Drink. It appears as number 33 of his top 50!! The Pig & Whistle Inn has 10 beautifully restored rooms with magnificent antiques. There are 4 en-suite rooms and the 6 traditional original rooms with communal bathrooms. All rooms have recently been equipped with new beds and Percale linen. The first owner, Thomas Hartley, built this house in 1821, a three story dwelling with 2 bedrooms on the top floor.
