The room I stayed in, room 4, was nice and clean when we got there. The bed was very comfortable but the room was just too unbearably hot which made it difficult to sleep even with the fan. Overall it was great though.

Thank you for your review Siobhan, you stayed in Bathurst during an almost nationwide heat-wave when temperatures in large parts of the country were 40 degrees plus ! Great for beachgoers and the Sunshine Coast certainly lived up to its promise this season. Normally our guests stay in Bathurst to escape the windier coastal areas however this season the breeze...

We overnighted at the Pig & Whistle en route to Cape Town and had a most enjoyable evening. The history of the Inn is impressive and the locals most welcome and accommodating. The only negative is that there is no safe off street parking, we parked in front of the hotel and all was fine.

Thank you for your kind feedback Marina, We appreciate the feedback regarding the parking. We do have limited off-street parking available by arrangement, however the parking in front of the Inn is well lit, on a national road which is busy almost all night and monitored by CCTV. We share your view that our locals in the quaint village of...

We had a great experience - and we would definitely would come again. We also loved going to Bradshaw's mill. The air in the Eastern cape is quite lovely and Port Alfred in not far away - like wise the coast and the beaches

Dear James and Sue, Thank you for the wonderful feedback, we would certainly love to host you on a return visit. Bathurst certainly is centrally located and also in the middle of a triangle of golf courses, for those that play. The entire village is very proud of Bradshaws Mill which is maintained by a group of concerned locals. Enjoy...

Pig & whistle was easy to find, a very charming old building. I enjoyed a game of pool with the locals. The room was inviting and we had a good night's rest before we continued our journey. A definite must stop and stay when one travels the Garden Route.

Wonderful experience with friendly staff, good food and a perfect setting with so much old world character to explore from, makes this one of the best small hotels in the Eastern Cape! Perfect getaway.

Thank you so much for the "full house" feedback. We especially appreciate comments about our staff and we will pass this on to them. Bathurst is really a little bit of history sandwiched between the frontier tourist route and the sunshine coast makes it an ideal spot for starting a multifaceted holiday in the wonderful Eastern Cape

The Pig & Whistle is worth a visit, it's certainly popular and busy at weekends (when we were there). It's on the main road and good for watching the world go by. Parking is on the street, although there's a car guard and cameras overlooking the parking area. We didn't have a meal here, but again the hotel seems very...

Thank you for the review Jill, we are pleased you pointed out the en-suite choice. As a national monument, some of our Historical Rooms cannot be served with an en-suite bathroom, however there are nearby bathrooms, some with separate showers that have been fully refurbished. The Historic rooms provide good accommodation for those with a limited budget or who are...

After an interesting visit to the 'Pineapple', the 'Pig and Whistle' is the ideal spot for lunch. It is central and you get to view everything from cows strolling by to all the local dogs. We were lucky it was a lovely warm day so we enjoyed drinks and lunch served on the veranda. The 'Pot' pies with salad were...

We thank you sincerely for the positive endorsement. It is also a real thrill to be visited by people like yourselves from far off lands. Our staff will be delighted to see the score you reflected for service and the quality of our famous pot pies. We would love to welcome you back to our Historic Pub. What about the...

The Inn is a great place to stay if you like the novelty of staying in an old haunted hotel. Our night was very peaceful and we can't say we were visited by a spectre in the night, but we were probably too drunk to notice because we only left the bar downstairs in the wee hours of the morning....

Hi there, Thank you for the positive review, many say that the spirits are actually in the pub!. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
David Bristow's latest Book "Been there Done That" (Struik March 2011) rates the Pig and Whistle as a unique place to Stay, Eat, Drink. It appears as number 33 of his top 50!! The Pig & Whistle Inn has 10 beautifully restored rooms with magnificent antiques. There are 4 en-suite rooms and the 6 traditional original rooms with communal bathrooms. All rooms have recently been equipped with new beds and Percale linen. The first owner, Thomas Hartley, built this house in 1821, a three story dwelling with 2 bedrooms on the top floor. The original rooms are rooms 5 and 6 in this Old Settler Inn. We are now rated number one in Bathurst on Trip Adviser. ... more   less
