Detailed Reviews
Stayed as part of a larger group. Perfect facilities and appreciated the attentiveness of Blessing to ensure we had all we needed - even proactively alerting me that I'd left behind vital possessions after leaving for the airport.
Always felt safe and comfortable, and the beautifully tended gardens were a real bonus.
Handy location and I'd revisit anytime.

+1
The flats are clean and tidy. All the basic amenities for a full apartment plus an airconditioner in the bedroom. Patios in the back and On Top of the building give excellent views. Grounds are kept excellently. I dealt with Dawn and she is The best hostess ever. Friendly, helpful and full of energy.

I wanted to gift my mother with a nice stay for 2 nights in an apartment with a sea view. The advert said the apartment has a sea view, but it doesn't. That was literally the only reason I booked the place. Upon arrival, we were told that the room isn't clean yet, we arrived after 2pm and check in is at 2pm. Not a good start. After waiting an hour, we could finally go into the apartment and we were thirsty, so my mom filled a glass with water from the water dispenser in the hallway that all guests can use and I filled my water bottle there too. We took a few sips and then noticed multiple dead baby cockroaches in our water. I notified the owner and he came to talk to us the next morning, and although he apologized, he kept on saying that he wasn't convinced the cockroaches came from that water. The valve on the machine definitely hasn't been cleaned frequently as that's where they came from.
The sleeper couch was dirty and smelled like urine on a patch on it so I had to sleep sitting up straight in a single chair.
The sliding door to the terrace didn't lock, the metal pieces don't even reach where they are meant to click, so I felt very unsafe being there.
The bathroom soap containers in the shower and on the basin were half used and dirty. The basin had dirt on it still from the previous people staying there.
There was a food wrapper under the single chair's pillow.
It was a very dirty stay to be honest and unenjoyable. It doesn't help offering to talk after we have already paid and are already there. These things shouldn't have happened in the first place.
I definitely don't recommend this for anyone and won't be booking here again.

Dear Megan, We at Secret Garden Guesthouse are sad and offended by your review which contains many inaccuracies from the start to the finish and we will be reporting this to Tripadvisor. After a thorough investigation I hereby submit the facts: *We do not pay for adverts. We rely on word of mouth and booking platforms which we have used for decades without changing much of the information. * Our hotel manager has given me the following information: Megan arrived at around 13:35 and I informed her that her room was ready except for the floor still being wet after washing. She and her mother then visited the pool and garden area and returned before 14:00 to enter the apartment as the floor has dried. This is our official check in time. * Our booking manager Dawn received a message from Megan at 21:05 complaining that insects were found in her water bottle after filling up at the complimentary water dispenser in the foyer. The dispenser is in constant use by guests staying for much longer than one night, none of which have had any issues with the water. Dawn replied at 21.19 and escalated it to owner Mr Swart. The next morning Mr Swart personally paid Megan and her mother a visit to verify the facts. Megan presented her water bottle. Inside this previously used plastic water bottle with screw top there were old shedded insect skins. Megan insisted that the objects entered her bottle while adding water from our dispenser. The owner, a professional pest control expert and career health and safety inspector, explained that it was very unlikely as we have never seen cockroaches at our premises before this incident and that the presence of shedded skins would mean other live roaches should still be present. The owner then called and paid for an urgent visit from our water dispenser company who attended without delay at 12.00 on the same day. The technician disassembled the unit and removed all its panels. No traces of roaches or the remains of any insects were found. Our hotel manager and owner then again visited Megan and her mother by about 17:30 to report back on our findings. We presented them with a small wrapped gift of sweets and a written card as a gesture of goodwill and apologized for their bad experience although we found no trace of insects in the water dispenser or surroundings. Megan's mother made it clear she was happy with our investigation and it was resolved. No other issues were mentioned and no other complaints were made before this review. *Our sleeper couch always receives special attention, cleaned, upholstery marks removed and surfaces sprayed with linen perfume. * The sliding door and lock was checked and is still working perfectly well. No one was aware of any problem with the door. In summary, there were never any actual insects or cockroaches found at Secret Garden Guesthouse, hence this review is deceiving and will be reported. Our guesthouse is currently fully booked, and after asking our other guests, no one else has noticed any cockroaches or insect remnants in their water. None of the other issues were reported to us, and therefore was not addressed at the time. We maintain a high standard of cleaning, immediately address concerns and always strive for perfection and providing immaculate, professional services to our guests at all times. THIS IS REFLECTED IN THE PERSISTENT 5 STAR TRIPADVISOR REVIEWS WE RECEIVE.

Very impressed with the set-up of the accommodation. The place is clean and the location is really good. Only issue was with load-shedding when the mains are switched off and then it is for the caretaker to switch it back on after the power come back on. Had occasions where he forgot to switch it on again. This is the only concern, but otherwise the accommodation get my approval 9.5/10.
